Before christmas i purchased the Acer Aspire 3053 laptop.
It qualified for the free upgrade to Vista Home Premium.

Since i have installed vista, the laptop seems very very slow.
It has 60gb Hard drive & 512mb ram.

Do you think it will need more memory ?
Is it easy to increase the memory on a laptop, how do you do it ?

I am also thinking about increasing the hard drive. Can this be done? and is this easy too ?

Anyone please help with my questions ?
    Thanks.

512mb of ram and vista is a definitely no no, no wonder you computer runs like absolute crap. This amount is sorta low for XP, but with Vista it's even worse.

Get urself at least 1.5gb of ram, and it will be like night and day.

I have opened the back of the laptop to look at the memory card what is inside. There looks like only space for one card, and its half the length of a desktop memory card.

512mb DDR2 is what it is supposed to be. If i buy a larger one, does it have to be DDR2 ? Can it be any DDR2 card ?

I noticed on many sites that 2gb cards come as x2 1gb cards. This will be no good to me if i only have place for 1 card, or can you buy an actual 2gb card ?

Here is an example: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Crucial-2GB-2x1GB-DDR2-PC2-5300/dp/B000FQ2JLW/ref=sr_1_2/026-1563842-3817214?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1180362263&sr=1-2 Would this card be ok ? What is the difference with SODIMM & DIMM ?

    Thanks.

You might have another slot under the keyboard.
