The system is currently stock with a T5250 1.5ghz 667 FSB and was looking at the T5800 which is 2.0ghz and 800 FSB.

I have seen that a T7700 is a pretty good upgrade cuz the 4mb cache over the 2mb and 2.4 over 2.0/1.5 but the price is whats calling me to the T5800 $60.00 compared to T7700 $135 plus

Anyone have the optimal upgrades for my laptop? Performance wise and most cost effective???
    Anyone have any thoughts???

    T5800 is ok, it's good that it's a penryn.

The T7700 will run hot (since it's a merom).

I know my T8100 runs cooler than my T7300 even though the T7300 is undervolted and running a lower clock speed.

I would forget about any merom CPU.

    T8300 would be better than a T7700.

    You really think a T8300 is better than a T7700 a T8300 has 3mb cache and the T7700 has 4mb?

    Does the cache really matter?

    Not much.

What will matter is that the T7700 is a merom so will be really hot and your fan will be loud. The T8300 will be really cool and give almost the same performence (you wont notice the difference).

Ahh I see does that have to do with the mfg tech( not really sure what this is) 45nm that the T8300 has compared to the T7700 at 65nm?

get a high speed penryn with a good price.

performance difference between my ex-T7250 and my current T7700 with wPrime is 9-10 seconds.
The T7700 does hotter, but with undervolt, it's not a problem.

unfortunately I haven't got a chance to get a cheap penryn, so I'll leave it for future upgrade(s) :p
( I got very nice bargains on T7250 and T7700)

Also the T7700 has an analog thermal sensor while the T8300 has a digital one, but there is no real difference except some old software wont be able to tell you the CPU temp (like CPUcool).
