    Acer 5920G mother board modding? (soldering)

    So i was wondering if there was any one familiar with the 5920G motherboard. I was wondering if any one knew of any place on the motherboard where i could draw enough power for a 60-70mm fan? I ask because, I... Think.... I have an... idea... :crazy:

    Also i hear there is a unused (not installed) secondary sata port, has any one by any chance even looked in to what it would take to make it work?

    What voltage is the fan designed to operate at and what voltage do you want it to draw? You should inspect the motherboard closely with your eyes and a multimeter to see where the best points are for your project. If not, you can always tap 5v from USB.

    USB ports are good because you know they are designed to have some power drawn from them.

    Also with the SATA connector you would have to look and see if there are any missing surface components.

    Was the mobo used in a larger model which you could compare it to?

    A 70mm fan can draw either 5v or 12v.
    If it draws 12v and you hook it up to 5v it will work very slowly if at all.

    Why don't you check your battery voltage and solder it to the battery connector (if its 12v).

    it is just your normal 70mm fan, so i would assume 12v. i'm sure given enough milli amps or amps 5v could work same with 7v. I guess at the least i'm gonna have to take the back cover off and look. hopefully it wouldn't require a a total tear down.
