Im replacing the 250gb in my Latitude E6400 (at 7200rpm).
Have heard great things about the WD; is there a better choice out there that I should consider?

Interesting; will look into the Hitachi.
About heat-does it run cooler/warmer than the WD?

Actually the WD5000BEVT will beat the Hitachi 5K500.b in real world performance. See this review.

WD5000BEVT is a very good choice in my opinion, offering very good performance and power consumption for a low price.

The Hitachi idles at around 30c in my mac , the WD is a cool hdd as well around the same , but it depends on the notebook the hdd`s in.

try Hitachi 5K500.B , also it does not make the clunking noise the WD Scorpio makes when it parks it`s head , at least my one does not.

If you're into multi tasking you may notice the better performance of the WD. If not, it will be hard/impossible to notice.

The difference in power consumption is too small to notice.

I wouldn't recommend the Seagate 7200.4, the review linked to above explains why in detail.

The 500gb WD Scorpio is the best laptop drive out today. End of thread.
