    Hi!

I have a Asus U31F for 4 years now, and it's working just perfect, battery is doing more than 5 hours nowadays, but cpu sometimes is not enought, i have de i3 380M version, with Samsung 256GB ssd.

    Specs are:

    Intel i3 380M
    Chipset Intel HM55
    4GB DDR3 1333
    SSD 256 SAMSUNG
    Battery 8 cells

So, I want to upgrade CPU, Asus sold it with i5 460M, so its a sure option, but i'd like to know if I can fit a Intel i7 and which version.

    Thanks you all!

You cannot use any quadcore i7 units from the Clarksfield family. This is because your laptop uses integrated graphics which those chips lack. i.e. i7-720QM, 740QM, 820QM, 840QM, 920XM, 940XM are all impossible to upgrade to.
The only processors you can use are the ones from the Arrandale family, the i5-460M is the safest bet since you know for sure your BIOS family will support it. You can go for more powerful Arrandale units but there is no guarantee that your BIOS has the neccessary microcodes, however from experience, ASUS are really good at providing support for processor models of the same family so it is 95% probability that alternative Arrandale units will work. The most powerful Arrandale unit you can upgrade to is the i7-640M, however I don't recommend this unit as it provides relatively little performance vs cost (which is still around $150 on Ebay for an Engineering sample). Your best value for money is a decent Genuine OEM i5-560M unit, these go for as cheap as $80 brand new on Ebay.

    Hey guys,

I've got the asus-u31f-rx264v, still works great thanks to my ssd.
I was wondering if the upgrade worked?
    And if it's worth it?

    My laptop as is.
    Intel Pentium Dual Core P6200
    4GB dd3
    256 gb samsung ssd
    With a new battery.

What do you guys think if I upgrade it with the Intel-Core-i5-560M model for 50 Euro?
Or should i ride it till it dies and buy a new laptop?

thanks for the advice in advance!

    Roel

Yeah sure do that.. You'll get much better performance since the corei5 will have HT + higher clock speed..

Double the performance for ~$50. Yes, looks good.

This is actually supported on your specific notebook (M/B, Chipset, BIOS) though?

He has a UX31F so it will work.. There are usually these dumbed down models offered for much less with Pentium CPU's etc but the motherboard is the same as the upgraded model with i5 so OP should be fine..
