Apologies for noobishness, but have just bought some RAM from ebay. I'm upgrading from 1Gb to 2Gb. I checked that my Acer AO531h can be upgraded to 2Gb and just searched on ebay for RAM and AO531h.

I bought the RAM and it doesn't work.

On closer inspection, I noticed that the RAM I had bought was 800MHz and the netbook only supports upto 667MHz.

As his advert did not actually disclose it was 800MHz RAM I want to return it, but he is suggesting it should still work, just at 667MHz instead as it is backwards compatible.

Is he correct, or will my netbook not be able to run this RAM at all?

Thanks for any info and help

    Dave

It should be able to run your 800MHz RAM at 667MHz speeds, but there might be a limitation in the netbook's chipset that prevents it from running.

I owned the AO531h (nice little netbook) and upgraded the RAM to 2GB as well. It is a safe bet that the 800MHz RAM will not work because the required bus speed is 533Mhz, not even 667MHz. 667MHz RAM is worth a try, as it worked in mine.

Thanks, I've requested full refund as his advert claimed compatibility and didn't mention it was 800MHz. I have also bought some 667MHz instead, which was actually cheaper! Doh.
