Will there be a big difference between the:
    AMD Athlon(TM) 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology TK-53 (1.7 GHz, 512KB L2 Cache)

    vs.

    AMD Turion(TM) 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology TL-56 (1.8 GHz, 512KB+512KB L2 Cache ) ?

The laptop will only be used to simple tasks and maybe some old 3d games AT MOST.

For what you listed no. For benchmarks some as that is the point of them.

You might also see some battery life differences. From what I understand, the turion is more efficient, and would consume less power.

allow me to ask another question since i'm considering whether to get a AMD cpu instead of intel.

If i play light gaming such as football manager, pro evolution soccer and a little of call of duty, will the tl-56 be a better performer than the tk-53? if yes is it significant? assuming all other components are the same.

And how does the tl-56 and tk-53 match up to intel's core2duo processors? to be specific, how does it match up to the T5500 and T7100 core2duo cpus? would appreciate the answers.

    Thanks

Clock for clock C2D is 20% to 25% faster ALU(MIPS) and FPU(MFLOPS) than The TL's. But on wPrime people are reporting TL's are faster clock for clock than C2D. It is pretty clear all n all C2D are substantially faster theoretically. But since C2D are so fast I don't think most people will see much if any difference real world. And to answer your first question it is the same as above, I doubt you will see a difference but the TL-56 is faster and better (1MB L2) than TK-53.

well the TK-53 is 65nm but the turion is slightly faster
2nd Q: clock for clock yes but still depends on the scenario

The TL as 2x512KB cache so yeah it's better, at 1.8 it should perform as a X2 3600+ (?) right?

Also, both ae the same chip (The Turion is a Tyler right?). My dad has a TK 53 and cpu-z says "Turion Molbile X2 TK-53".

    TL-50 90nm (Taylor),TL-52 90nm (Trinidad), TL 56,60,64 can be 90nm (Trinidad) or 65nm (Tyler), TL 58,66 & TK-53 are all 65nm (Tyler).

I recall when TK-53 1st came out it was called a Turion I think they changed after release. Maybe too much confusion.

both the TL-56 and Tk-53 are turions X2, at least thats what listed on the acer 4520 series of laptops that i'm looking at. they are a good S$150 cheaper than a similar Dell 1420 or Vostro 1400 except that Dell uses Core2duo. So well I'm wondering if its worth shelling out the extra cash for dell, who supposedly builds better laptops.
Although I've heard that Acer's 4520 series of laptops are much better in build quality then previous models. Anyone knows?

Always compare the graphics between the two it can help you decide what really is the best value.
