    Hi guys,

    My first post here.

I recently bought an HP-Compaq Presario V3000 notebook with AMD Turion X2 TL-58 (1.9 ghz), nVidia chipset + GPU (i forgot the series, seems to be Go 6150), and 4 gigs of RAM.

I read the CPU temperatures using speedfan (I just find out that speedfan is quite inaccurate, around 10-15 C lower than any other CPU monitoring softwares). On idle, it's around 45 C. On basic usage (browsing, mp3, watch movie, programming, etc), it's 50-55 C. On gaming (Counter Strike 1.6), it reached 63 C. These all monitored without aircon. When i turned on my aircon, usually they get lowered by 5-8 C.

Is this normal? (FYI, on my P4 prescott desktop rig, I already fed up when the temp is above 50 C and i bought thermaltake silent tower which did a pretty good job). This is my first notebook and i don't want to get problems caused by hot CPU temps..

I'm thinkin to underclock the CPU voltage a little bit at its highest multiplier. Anyone did this before, or maybe knows a safe, CPU voltage table per multipliers for that AMD turion X2 TL-58?

    Welcome to NBR :D

I do not have a Turion TL-58, but AMD turion processors can be undervolted quite a bit.
You should be able to knock at least 0.2V off of the upper multiplier.
I use CPU Rightmark Clock Management, RMCLOCK, to undevolt my core 2 duo and AMD Opteron processors.
When you undervolt, go slow and steady, undervolt one step at a time. To speed things up, check the box which says "Auto-adjust intermediate VIDs"
I know with my Core 2 Duo, I was able to take 12-15C off of my peak temperatures. WIth my AMD Opteron I was able to cut 10C off of my operating temperatures.

Undervolting is a bit hard to figure out at first, but once you understand it, it will be easy to change.
Make sure that you restart after adjusting the vid's. If it crashes, then put the voltages back to the last stable setting.

You should be good with temperatures around 65C under load. Undervolting will only help cut that down to maybe 55-60C.

    Hi K-TRON,

    thx for the quick reply.

"You should be good with temperatures around 65C under load. Undervolting will only help cut that down to maybe 55-60C." -> Yes but don't forget that these temperatures are monitored using SpeedFan which usually reports 10-15C lower than the actual temps. Then i guess my full load temps would be around.. 73C? I think my notebook won't go far with such temp :p

RMClock.. OK I'll try. Actually, if undervolting can cut down 10C, it's good enough. I'll do it even for 5C :)

I'm also thinking of using a notebook cooler. Any advise? I've read the forums and read that Vantec brands are quite good, can cut up to 5-7C.

Your temps are normal I am just under 55C when low load AMD's do run hotter I have TL-52, under load it can get much hottter 63C is nothing. But yea undervolt wont hurt.

You should not need a notebook cooler.

You can try downloading "core temp". Core temp has a much more accurate thermal probe, which measures the temperature directly from the probe on the processor die.

Record temps before and after, and you will be surprised how much cooler it will run.

OK thx for the suggestions guys.

I'll first try NHC to get a more accurate temperature reading (I'm pretty sure it will hit 70-75 C on gamings :) )

That is just about where my temps are with the TL-58 (if the app is correct). As suggested above, I would try Core Temp to validate those readings.....

Okay I undervolted mine using RM Clock.

You can follow my settings as a guide. You can also see my temp at the bottom.

Note: I am Permanently at an overclocked state(2.25 Ghz), so my temps are a wee bit higher than normal.

    Oh forgot to add

    For multipliers 9-11

    Set it at 1.075V
