Good evening everyone...glad to join the forums!

I'm looking to pick up a new notebook, and considering I'm not a "laptop gamer" (desktops are a different story... :), as well as a college student/poor working stiff, I'd just like something that offers up good graphics performance for watching DVD's, and moreso, WMV HD level quality feeds.

Basic, plain-jane notebooks are all I've pretty much ever owned, but their one significant limitation in my experience has been very poor integrated graphics units.

Reading through the "Notebook Video Graphics Card Guide 2006" posted elsewhere on this site, it appears that a notebook equipped with the X2 processor & 6150 nVidia would be plenty to watch DVD's and various types of high-quality video without audio lag, frame skipping, etc, etc...

    Am I correct here?

    Thanks!

    Welcome to NotebookReview.com !!!

that will do just fine... trust me my peice of **** SiS Mirage card can do it(it can't even run Age of Empires II... yah, II, I would not even think of trying III)

even a celeron M + 5200geforce will easily do that...
    hope the helps!

It depends on the content. 720p and 1080i content should be fine, 1080p will stress the system a bit (for real). It will mean that playing 1080p content will be jerky if another application is running in the background (even with dual cores).

Get the Pure Video software from Nvidia and you will get hardware acceleration from the 6150. It should make things much better. There is a free trial.

I have a Turion X2 TL 50 paired with Nvidia 6150 and it didnt have any issues running 1080p HD videos. I tried a couple of them from here and it ran without any slowdowns even with other applications running in the backgrouns(browser, skype etc).

A big thanks to everyone for the warm welcome and quick replys! :D

...I just didn't want to go out and purchase a new notebook, only to find that it wouldn't have the graphics power to play WMV HD or other type media files of that caliber/quality level.

    Thanks again!

If you don't mind HP (personally, I do, which is why i didn't jump on this)

one of their notebooks, i think the dv6000z, is a 15.4" widescreen with
a Turion X2 cpu and an option for a Geforce 7200

The geforce 7200 is a full generation ahead of the 6150 (7 series vs 6 series)
and its a 64mb dedicated card rather than an integrated card, meaning the video card won't constantly have to borrow memory away from the system

You should watch videos fine, my laptop can play DVDs in 720p with no lag. You might even get in some 3D games on low settings.
