I'm usually an intel fan but due to budget, the laptop I want is cheaper with the AMD chip. Are the AMD cheaps pretty much equal to the intel dual core chips if they are the same speed? How are the AMD dual core's performance and reliability compared to the intel dual cores?

Seriously there are tons of threads discussing this but I'll summarise them for you. An amd x2 is as fast as a core 2 duo at 75% of its speed. e.g. an amd x2 2ghz, would be roughly equal to a 1.5ghz core 2 duo. So at the same speed a c2d would be much faster. The intel chips also have less power consumption.
