I was bored, so I gutted my laptop to see how it worked. Ok, I'm kidding. I broke the power connector and I had it apart to replace.

Anyways, I pull off the heatsink and to my surprise there is a socketed AMD Athlon XP 1800+! I thought laptops used wierd CPU's or ones soldered on?

So, can I upgrade this? Might it overheat? Any idea what I can put in here for a chip?

Laptop in question is an HP ZE4315US

    Thanks!!

It is possible to upgrade your CPU, yes. Just be sure that you know that in doing so, it voids your warranty. :(

Check what other CPUs were offered with your model. Those are the ones that will work. Also make sure they are the same socket type, and type (Athlon XP in your case).

If you don't mind me asking this, are you sure it is worth the upgrade? What are you doing that will benefit from the faster processor?

lol I think I already voided any warranty I had when I tore it apart! haha

I want to upgrade just to upgrade. No real reason!

According to what I read online, I might only be able to use up to 2200+ due to being a tbred-A. Only issue is that runs 33% hotter

Why not a faster Mobile Athlon? If it runs 33% hotter, it is going to be trouble. If you are loking for better performance, a faster hard drive and more memory will help more than the CPU.

The Mobile Barton might not work, all depends on the motherboard.

A Athlon XP 2700 (T-bred core) might be a good option.

Can anyone tell if I can upgrade CPU in nx9105 model. I didn't look inside it (will this really void warranty?) and don't know if CPU can be replaced or not, maybe somebody knows this. Thank you a lot! :)

You most probably can since the nx9105 is the business version of the r3000/zv5000z series. There is a service manual listed on HP(search for r3000 service manual) which will provide the steps required to upgrade the processor.

Also check the r3000forums.com . They contain lot of info on what processors might work if you want to upgrade the one in your system...

These 2 threads might give you some clues...
