    Ok..... Where do I start......
I am pretty good when it comes to computers... All my life I have been into computers and right now im learning programming in college...
but I never really got into the hardware stuff....
And now I'm supposed to be able to write a report on building my own computer...

Well.... Wheres the best place to start learning and reading up on all about building a computer and all its parts?
I searched on google but i keep getting annoying sites that were made for people who dont know a thing about computers...

I'm a fast learner, but I just need a few tools... After reading an article or two on parts I'll probably catch on...

Are we talking desktop or laptop, because there is a huge difference. For desktop system, it is so easy, most anyone can do it.

I would start with a "brand name" (Asus, Gigiabyte, MSI, etc) motherboard. Anyone purchased from Newegg or ZipZoomFly is likely okay. These places also have deals on mobo, CPU, case packages. Their telephone sales and tech support should get you going.

The most problems come with patches and drivers. As soon as you system is up, run Windows Update and install all of the patches. This might take several hours, including multiple reboots.

If you are trying to save a buck or two, forget it. The best deals are at Walmart, Sams Club, Costco or other "big box stores".

I do it because its fun (and it impresses the family) ! :D

    You can build a laptop?
I always thought you can only build desktop.... OK I went to howstuffworks.com and got a nice little tutorial...

Now im starting to actually want to build one myself....
My friend built a computer -but he didnt seem to save money... on the contrary he used like 1400 and now is having a few problems with his comp... so im afraid to take advice from him...
Im now checking out extremetech... looks cool...
theres a link "build it" I guess thats what i press...
..So it shows you how to build a ready set computer with specific parts?

You can't really build a laptop just yet these days... there are barebone systems that'll let you drop in your processor, GPU, HDD and RAM, but the level of customization is nowhere near what you can get for desktops.

What exactly is the question here?

From the site of extremetech -it shows you recommendations on different computer desktops to build.

What I want to know is how to I find a great motherboard in my price range?
And once I do, how do I know what cpu and ram and other stuff to get to go along with the motherboard?... like I want to learn how to do this not just once
    Like that saying
You can feed a man fish or teach him to fish and feed him for a lifetime... I want the latter!
