Hi guys i need to know the exact model number of the WD 750Gb 2.5" HDD capable of fitting into the DV5T (want to swap the 320 into my wife's AOD150, and take out the 160Gb as an external)

as far as i am aware the DV5T can install 9.2mm height 2.5" HDD, and WD (and toshiba) has recently intro'd a 750 (ofg the same height) but there are many parts floating around (here in Australia) of the older and much thicker 750's,

so i need the model number of the 750 (if indeed the new one's can fit) that can install into the DV5T (1009TX) thanks

The Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD7500BPVT is what you are looking for; 750GB 5400RPM, 9.5mm height, SATA II connection. :)

You are correct that the dv5t can take a 9.5mm height drive.

Thanks dude I did notice that BPVT but wasn't sure that it was the right drive, since we are in the same topic wondering if you could save me the trouble to search and tell me

I intend to buy this drive and then image my existing drive in the dv5 to this one
    qs to u is
will the OS simply work (VHP and wIn7)
how to enable the advance format before imaging the os
if adv format enabled will it affect my OS's (cuz the bit size or the other has chgd....I know xp and later cannot understand that...but will the imaged OS have any trouble)
    thanks

it should work when u image... as long as it is on the same laptop which is the case for u... Just use Acronis True Image Home edition to image...u should have no problems then.. i don't think u need to do the advanced format...

cheif, the HDD supports advanced format, and it gives me a bit more of space than what i can expect through a traditional format...is it not worth it? thanks

and can this then be achieved IF using Acronis to image my OS

(PS) since i created 2 partitions in the HDD (when there were only one) i presume this will be "imagable" to my new HDD, can we specify either during the image copy process to increase the number of partitions and or inc./dec. the size of the HDD partition.

oh that format... i don't know about all that as i only have used acronis to image my drive to an external to store my data... i don't exactly image it back.. i do a clean install..

thank you both for your help,

    sorry didnt update the status

the 750GB works like a charm, WEI scores (yes we know....they are crude at best...but for me easiest to administer) increased from a 5.3 to a 5.9 for this drive...noticably quicker more space.....

last issue persists.....the alignment thingy.....it says for all my drives occupied with data that they are "not optimally aligned" although i was assured by a WDC techie (who had to be corrected abt imaging software earlier) that no data will be lost on optimising alignement...i'd still back up my system, and report finally.....
