I recently buyed two Seagate Momentus 7200.4 ST9500420ASG drives. This was upgrade in my Asus G50V laptop. In G50V was two Seagate Momentus 5400.5 ST9320320AS drives. In this thread i added 5 test images.

Actually in HDTune test i got not lot in RAID0 configuration over 5400 drives, but 1TB on laptop and in RAID0 is that what i wanted most from this upgrade.

Minor bonuses are as well: G-Force Protection and Fluid dynamic bearing motor. In regular use laptop is more responsive, than it was with 5400 drives - these are seconds, but still it is pleasantly.

There is test with Esata 2.5'' Sata Hdd enclosure: Esata.jpg
I tested these drives also in IBM R60 T2400 laptop. TestOnPrimaryIBM.png
I compared 1 drive ST9500420ASG with WD3200BEVT drive. I was surprised that 7200.4 makes less noise and always keeps 5Celsius degrees lower than Western Digital drive. I runned simultaneously two HDTune programms at same time started. On IBM was UltraBay slot for second Sata Hdd (in Sata1 mode).

On Asus G50V Seagate Momentus 7200.4 ST9500420ASG two drives didn't get over 50Celsuis after at least 10-15 times HdTune non-stop test (1 test ends i immediately click for both drives to test them again) on both drives simultaneously.

There is only one problem with these drives - they make ticking sound for few seconds, and in these seconds computer freezes. For example, when i browse some page in internet and click the same time when disks park their heads to somewhere - laptop freezes, after few seconds disk heads are back and my click is processed after this incident. One more example - the same situation is if i add my portable Esata enclosure to laptop - laptop freezes when drive in enclosure turns on - motor is going to be ready, but in this time for me it is ok.

I have read Cyanize article "Clicking Noise issue *resolved*" in this forum, but this can't help me if i have RAID0 configuration. Provided software needs to see at least one hard drive. As i understand that this problem is related to "HDD head parking".

    I need help

This is terrible - this is not just clicking noise - i can't work with these drives on my system. I'm very satisfied with system performance, but these clicks are killing me. Sometimes these clicks are sequently one after another. Even if i write this mesage in this forum if there are clicks - between them i can't see response on my screen when i'm typing letters :(

Have you tried the Seatools or some other Seagate utility to change the power managment of the HDD, maybe you can reduce or even deactivate the power management.
