I want to put a 64 gb ssd in my laptop and I know that you can upgrade to one when buying some laptops for about $1000 but I can't seem to find anyone selling them. Any tips? Thanks

They are selling out everywhere!!!! Even Dell has access to 0 of them since they have become another shortage in the industry. Some intl dell sites have pulled this option.

That is more money than I would spend on an entire computer, not just a drive!

flamenko, you have one, right? If so, how much did you part with for it?

I have a few right now...for test purposes.

I got my 32Gb SSD with my system, my system total price coming to around 1388 for...

C2D 2Ghz, 2GbRAM,32Gb SSD, NVidia 8400GS, LED Display, Vista Ultimate, 3Yr Cplt Care, bluetooth, 9cellx2, fingerprint reader, soundblaster (teehee)

    There were extenuating circumstances!!!

The present problem of availability is huge. Samsung is sold out, Mtron is just in negotiations for a North American Distributor, Sandisk is passe since the 64Gb came out, and a new company is coming out in a few weeks called Ridata 32Gb SSD.

It has decent read/write speeds and is supposed to be available by the end of the month through a distributor.

    It is here:

I think we need to wait until they become more mainstream and are available in capacities which are practical and are price competitive with regular hard drives

You could easily sell those and make quite a bit of money, Flamenko. Next year you can probably buy the same thing for less than half what you got.

I would believe that within a year availability would be much greater which would bring the price down, yes.

is it a normal plug out and in for laptops and it would work or the laptop needs special joint for fitting them?

    Bashar...

You just pulled up 2 really old threads and appear to be looking for info that will be in my 'Intro to SSD' thread below. Conversely, if you have any general questions, just ask them on the 'New SSD Thread' as many monitor and follow this.
