I highly doubt this is true, I just read a couple days ago that it might take Intel until Jan '08 to release 45nm processors.

I doubt it would take them that long, It does strike me as odd that they would release 800mhz Merom chips only to replace them within three months with penryn, Though they did that with yonah and merom so maybe it is possible.

They are working on 45nm but do not expect it till late 2007 or early 2008.

they've got the 45 nm chips to boot with 4 OSes from what i've read....but there is a really small chance that it will come out in 1H 2007. they demostrated the 45 nm chips not so long ago...they even let the people test out the systems.

Last I heard, they were expecting to announce the release of Penryn in early 2008.

chrisyano, thats what I heard. Intel isn't going to launch Penryn, after just a few months of Merom (800 Mhz FSB) being released. I don't thnk Intel wants to upset manufacturers and the mobile market in general, by forcing them to adapt their notebooks to incorporate the new processor, so quickly. In my opinion, I think Intel will launch these sometime close to 2008, probably around the end of this year, if they are quick and don't incur any problems with the process.

Desktop 45nm chipsets (Bearlake, Wolfdale) are coming out this summer. From what I've read, 45nm processors will be out by the end of the year (Q4).

Montevina, the next mobile chipset, will have 45nm processors in Q2 2008.

anyone know what the FSB for the Montevina chip is going to be?? I was reading on Anandtech http://anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2925 that the smaller chips will produce less heat which means Penryn chips could easily have a clock speed of 3ghz starting out. I for one am waiting for Santa Rosa but it seems to take forever!!!
