quantity vs quality/reliability an never ending battle personally i would go with quantity but im sure others might differ in their opininons id choose the higher capacity RAMS provided that they have a warranty of some sort but if reliability is main concern go with the big name relaible brands such as crosair or kingston!!

If you're using XP. I think 2 GBs is more than enough. Vista...even then 2 GB is good enough.

Diminishing returns after passing 2 GB

You can get 3GB of high quality RAM for not that much. What prices are you looking at now?

What applications will you be using and do you do lots of multi-tasking with may applications open at the same time. If so, more RAM may help XP through reducing use of virtual memory.

Vista will use spare RAM with techniques such as pre-fetch to anticipate what you may need and already get it off the HDD so that it will load faster.

Personally, I have encountered any RAM problems / performance which can be correlated with price.

Why does it have to be name brand? If I purchased 2GB I would only by Corsair if I liked the price. Most RAM bought from a reputable retailer works the same as the big name. Kingston and Corsair have made their share of bad RAM like anyone else. What is this other RAM (3GB) remember with a lot of high tech stuff most people are late to find out what is “the best” so just because you have not heard of it does not mean it is junk.

Look for the RAM and post a link we can give you a more informed opinion. If that was not your intent with this question then I find the question itself to be flawed and off target. ;)

What is the other brand of RAM you are looking at? Make sure it is a reputable company and that the RAM has a lifetime warranty. All of the RAM in the RAM DEALS thread have lifetime warranties.

As a general rule of thumb, more RAM = better.

im just building a laptop that i can play games on and also take around with me for maybe 2 hours to do work in the coffee shop or wat not.

Battery power is my main issue with C90S so i might still go with G1S. Its all in the air at the moment.
