I am going to get a sony SZ6 as soon as it gets out. I want to get a 2gb stick as I have money now and 3gb total RAM should help make it a little more future proof. I have never put more RAM into a laptop nor bought it. What should I look for I dont understand technicalities very well

this is the info on the web:

    Memory
    Type : DDR2
    Installed : 2GB (1GBx2) PC2-5300 or 1GB (1GBx1) PC2-5300
    Maximum : 4GB15
    Speed : 677MHz

Get 1gb(1x1gb) then buy (1x2gb) DDR2-667 ram(its also called PC2-5300/PC2-5400) 200 pin so-dimm(desktop ram will not fit/work in a laptop) from a online retailer(it should be cheaper). If you get 1gb(2x512mb) then you will need to replace both the sticks to achieve 3gb(or replace one of the 512mb sticks with a 2gb stick of ram to achieve 2.5gb)

Look in the Hot Ram deals thread for great prices on DDR2-667 ram.

The ram should be located on the underside(bottom side up) of the laptop or under the keyboard or both. There might be more info on the location of the ram slots in in the manual.

Both the sticks are 1 gb so I guess I only need a 2gb stick right?

If both the sticks are 1gb (2 sticks of 1gb for a total of 2gb) then yes replace one of the 1gb sticks with a single 2gb stick to achieve 3gb
