Does anyone know if there's hard drive enclosure for 2.5in laptop drives that have an ethernet port? (or a combination of products that would do the same thing). Not looking to spend over $100

I've done a little searching but haven't found anything.

look at the stuff at cooldrives.com. I've bought several of their 3.5" usb/ethernet enclosures. The enclosures I buy are currently on sale for less than 1/2 price ($40- each).

Addonics has usb-ethernet 'adapter' that is designed to take printers or disk drives and make them available over ethernet.

I have never heard of such a device before. You can find USB (mostly), e-Sata or firewire (not frequent) in 2.5" boxes.

Yes, there are quite a few of these, some are cheap ie; Bytecc NAS Enclosures and some very expensive ie; Buffalo TeraStation etc.

Just google, External Network-Attached-Storage (NAS) enclosures, there are tons of options.

I just tried plugging a 2.5" HDD into my DIR-655 and discovered that the USB port on the router doesn't provide enough power to get the HDD to spin.

Theres no 2.5" portable enclosure with ethernet port. You will need to use a NAS which have 3.5" bays. They also require an external powersupply.

Look for Qnap or Buffalo NAS
