I bought a refurbished HP ML350 g6 Enterprise Server for personal development of my IT Skills.

It came with 3 X 2.5" 500GB 7.5K HDD. And I'm planning to replace all the drives to SSD.

I currently a 256GB Corsair Performance Pro SSD from my laptop and I'm planning to use it on my server.

Will it work perfectly or do I need to buy Enterprise SSDs?

Depends on what you're doing with the server.

How many writes (in GB's) per day are you expecting (sequential and/or random 4K r/w)?

I won't be doing that much at this moment, may be in the future things may change.

I'll be using the server probably once in 2 weeks.

Will an ordinary SSD be ok or do I need an Enterprise SSD?

If you're using it that infrequently, is it worth spending the money to get SSDs in the first place (assuming those three HDD's are still operational)?

Let me rephrase my question: once every two weeks, how will the system be used (with regards to the intensity focused on the storage subsystem)?

Will it be used for educational/school use to learn on with a focus on simple programming skills, or...

Will it be updating a huge database for the full day (8+ hours on 'max')?

The latter will make your Corsair Performance Pro breakfast for server (even every second week), while the former will be a perfect home for it.

Btw, for me; even a system used once every two weeks is still a candidate for an SSD (the (time) cost to me is what makes it worth it). (It will still need to be maintained, updated, etc. same as any other setup).
