I'm trying to add an additional HDD to my Toshiba Tecra M5 using the select bay.
The main HDD is SATA but the slim select bay for my notebook is PATA...
I need a big HDD and I'd like to know why cannot get 2.5 500GB PATA HDD

I'd appreciate any info on this topic
    thanks
    Pat

I think technically it would be possible, but PATA is a small market. So the manufacturers aren't that interested.

Otherwise we'd be having 320GB/7200rpm PATA drives too.

So the largest PATA drive is the WD2500BEVE.

Sorry, PATA is outdated and the market is not so big at all. Old things gets outdated by time.

You can always get an external 500GB driven by USB only (no external AC/DC-adapter needed or so).

good, then it' s technically feasible... but money talks...
anyway I think the market is not so small of notebooks needing big PATA HDD upgrades...
Do you guys think this is something that is never going to happen or it's more like a " may be..."

The USB option is not an option, performance is very bad plus I cannot boot from USB-HDD on my lappy

    thanks
    Pat

I don't think there will come any newer and bigger as the PATA-interface is dying out. Haven't been anything released in a while and there is no bigger need for people to upgrade their old notebooks to bigger than 250GB as these notebooks that uses PATA are getting older and older. You have to apply to the market and upgrade the whole notebook in order to get your hands on newer technology!

Well, if you have an USB-drive you do have 500GB + the one that's internal. That would give you more space to play with.

I do not think that my M5 Centrino dual Core 2 2Ghz 4GB Ram DVDR/W double layer Nvidia, Fingerprint reader etc etcetc is old... do you? is just one year old....

    Anyway I've got the point.

    Thanks guys.

its not going to happen especially with ssds around the corner (where the bandwidth limitation of pata would slow down the potential performance of the drive).... i'm afraid if you want to upgrade the wd2500beve is the biggest you're gonna get
