    Hey all :)

    I have recently bought a samsung rc730. I would like to replace the HDD that comes with the laptop to a HDD that has 64MB buffercache. I know must of the laptops only allows 16MB (exeption: Hybrid Hard drive... 32MB).

    I haven't found any info on samsung's homepage (my model doesn't even exist there .... )

    Thanks in advance

    Regards,
    Valentin N

    I am also most positive that the laptop has Intel H65 as chipset (rc 720 does at least) so it should support SATA II. Does that mean that the buffercache doesn't really matter as long as it's SATA II and 2,5 inch?

    Thanks once again :)

    The size of the HDD's buffer cache is not dependant on the notebook it will be used in. It is directly tied into the firmware that the specific HDD uses so that it can be used in the most efficient way.

    The storage subsystem (HDD/SSD) is handled the same from the O/S's standpoint. The HDD's cache is an internal affair that simply hopes to give the storage subsystem as a whole a leg up on the performance vs. other drives.

    Ignore the size of the buffer cache and simply look for known/good HDD's to use in your system:

    Listed from best to good:

    Hitachi 7K750 750GB model;
    WD Scorpio Black 750GB model;
    Seagate XT Hybrid 500GB model;
    Hitachi 7K500 500GB model.

    All the other's are a waste of time (and money), if performance per $$ is what you're after.

    Good luck.

    As a large cache, it stores frequently used files.
