I have an Acer TM 8204 with 15.4" display at 1680x1050. The machine works fine, I mainly use it as backup for the MacBook Pro. The only problem is the display - it was very dim to begin with and it either got worse or I am just too used to the super bright LED display in the MBP now to tolerate it.

I have to squint to see anything when it's daylight outside.

Is there an easy way to replace the panel? I live in Thailand so labor is cheap and there are plenty of laptop repair shops that I assume would be able to do it, maybe the Acer Service center would even go for it.

But I wonder if it's hard to find a panel that's compatible - are they interchangeable as long as the display resolution and size are the same? Can I just replace the backlight only?

    Thanks for any hints...
