Well I got a 12 Cell battery for my DV2000. It works great and everything, but I have been noticing something weird happening lately. It will sustain its power until it reaches like about 50% life and then after that it will just go to critical life or 5% remaining in an instant. Any clue of why this happens? The battery is supposed to last for about 4 - 6 hours, but it only seems to last about 3...

Sounds like it could be a calibration issue. But your time description does sound short. I would ask when you get the three hours are you doing intensive tasks and is screen at full brightness? If so three hours not so strange. If on the other hand working in word, screen dimmed and Wi-Fi off may have a problem. Read the documentation that came with your notebook or find online. Follow instructions to calibrate. If problem remains likely bad battery. If it was only operational time I would suggest, "how old is battery" but if you can't get the 50% to 5% jump resolved I suspect some cells are bad. They don't short the circuit but fail to hold a charge?

This battery jump occurs when a battery ages. I have some dell batteries which are 8 years old, but they jump from 40% to 3%. This is a sign of wear. If your laptop battery is new, I suggest getting a replacement battery, as the one you received is not good.
Donwload cpu rightmark clock utility and go to the battery tab. It will tell you if the battery has wear or not.

I have you beat. My 8 year old DeLL reads 100% when plugged in, unplug dies immediately.

Wow pp, you have everyone beat. That is terrible.
I have an old 80286 Northgate laptop, and the battery still gives it 20 minutes of battery , and that thing is like 16 yrs old.
Nothing like small lead acid batteries, they never die.
