Go one gig and then buy a 2x1Gig set online for ~60-80 bucks.

Since the T61 is a Santa Rosa notebook it can support 4gb(2x2gb) with a 64bit OS.

If you are configuring it with Vista then you want 2gb(might need more depending on your needs). So find the cheapest option to get 2gb which would probably be the 1gb 1dimm option and then upgrading to 2gb

Look in the Hot Ram Deals for great prices on ram.

One little side note not related to DIMM but, certainly go with the DDR2 memory because it has essentially twice the memory of the simple SDRAM. :)

Get 512 then immediately get 2x1gb
Or get 1gb - 1dimm so you you can get another 1gb later without throwing away two 512 sticks.

I would get the 512KB then I would buy a 2GB stick, later I could take out the 512KB stick and replace w/1GB or 2GB stick (Windows 32 can only make use of 3.2GB). $38 dollars is not some great deal you can get that anytime put it towards the 2GB stick for now, plus you will have a paper weight (512KB) later if you do upgrade.

Do not buy the 1GB (2X512KB) for the same price as 1GB stick.
