They're using lower and lower manufacturing process, so cost goes down. Every generation of memory, there is a similar trend. Don't expect it to go much lower, it will bounce back shortly most likely.

It's a combination of process reduction and oversupply. The process reduction is permanent, but the oversupply is cyclical: the manufacturers make too much RAM so the price drops down to the point where they're losing money so they cut back on production making the price increase, but then there is more demand than supply so they make start making more RAM again until the price drops down...

Unless you're running quad-core or Sandy Bridge, it'd downclock anyway, and, more to the point, the chances of you noticing the speed difference are close to nil. Also, you can get DDR3-1333 for about $60-$70 dollars as well (you just don't get the MIR).

Yeah, I'm looking for DDR3-1333 for a sandy bridge laptop. 8 GB seems to go for $80 on newegg, so the lowest I can get would be $68. Still waiting for it to get into the low $60-70 range.

Eh? Do you mean $90? Because 15% off $80 would make it $68.

Wouldn't be pretty easy to flash the SPD with 1333mhz cas9?

You're right, $68. I still can't help but think that since desktop DDR3 prices have been dropping so low that I might be able to get it lower than $68. I don't plan on buying a new laptop until March, so I don't know if I should wait or settle for this price. DDR3-1333 for $52, I would take no question though, lol.

As stated if you just got DDR3-1066, it would make no difference in performance.

Does not compute. Judicator said why you should get this. Buy it. It will improve your performance and cost a whole lot less than any decent SSD anyway. At these kinds of prices it is kind of foolhardy not to buy 8GB if you plan to upgrade your computer at all.

You're gonna be waiting a while. Prices are set to rise again soon, we're about at rock-bottom of the pricing curve.

Why do you think that? I don't believe SO-DIMM DDR3 RAM prices will start rising before DDR4 or something like that hits the market. It will of course stop dropping some time soon, but rise again? Don't think...

Oh, by that he meant the speed difference between 1066 and 1333, not 8GB vs less than 8GB. :D

The reason for the price dropping is mostly oversupply+overstocked retailers/vendors. Manufacturing process helps.. when supply isn't overstocked as it is. I bet we'll reach a point where $65~ will buy a 8GB Sodimm kit without needing a special offer.

I'm doggone broke right now otherwise I would buy 8GB more (16GB total) to put in my soon to be shipped Sandy Bridge Sager notebook PC. But I think 8GB will suffice me for a while. But I've been doing more with VM's, so more RAM would be nice.

Maybe if you sold that Sager you own you'd be able to go to 16 GB. :p and hopefully you got Windows 7 Professional/Ultimate once you get 16 GB RAM.

The money from the Sager is already going to offset the cost of this new one. I over spent by like $700! I run Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

Yeah, lol. Actually I ended up getting exactly what I wanted. Usually I compromise a lot just due to cost. But this time around I'm going full tilt. The only thing I didn't get was the matte screen. That was a late addition by Sager, and +$220! Mainly because Sager has to remove the glossy and replace it with the matte since the stock Clevo's don't offer matte. Kudos to them for actually offering it due to customer demand, but at a stiff premium. I'll just live with a $25 matte screen protector. :)

I did want 16GB but I've got 8GB to put in there and figured I'll pick up another 8GB cheap, like this sale, but I'm broke and refuse to use my credit card.

Because they've seriously cut back on manufacturing volume of DDR3, which will stop the glut that we have. The manufacturers don't like churning out so much for little to no profit.

That, and actual prices for chips actually have risen in the last week.
