Ok I went into a big problem with P35K.

I upgraded it to win 8.1 after I received it. Everything was fine until last night I left it on overnight and this morning I found it still on (fan was running and LEDs for Bluetooth, Wifi and Power and keyboard backlight were on) but with display turned off. I pressed the power button but nothing happened. I thought it might went frozen so I held the power for 5 even 10 seconds, but this didn't force the laptop to turn off. So I unplugged the power cord thinking it would run out of battery then shut down. About two hours later the fan stopped running and keyboard backlight went off but the LEDs were still on. I then waited for another 3 hours and things didn't change.

Now how can I cut off the power and shut down the machine? I removed the back cover and took a look inside, basically have no idea how to disconnect the battery. The machine seems truly to be "sleeping" now and I guess it'll take very long time to use up the battery. I have some important data and I need them right away. I know I can remove the HDD to get them out but is there a easy way to just turn it on?

    Thanks!

It is really tight I'm afraid I'll break something if I pull violently. Are there special tools or tips to disconnect this?

I've 95% decided on this laptop and I have a couple of questions if any owners can help:

    1. (In the UK at least) The CF2 version comes equipped with 8Gb RAM. I am going to use the machine for video encoding. I understand upgrading to 16Gb would therefore be worthwhile. Does the laptop come with a single 8Gb stick of RAM or two 4Gb sticks? It would be easiest obviously to just buy an additional 8Gb stick. If so - what speed rating is the RAM and should I try to match the brand of the RAM currently installed?

    2. If I wanted to invest in a Blu Ray burner for the front slot, can you point me in the right direction to a model that will fit in this bay?

    3. What are your experiences of the laptop so far? Have you done much gaming on it? How are the temperatures and battery life?

    4. Finally - what about the flexing issue? Has anyone else had any issues with this or is the matter finally resolved?

    Thanks so much guys!

Thanks for the tips, I solved the problem in another way. I found all the USB ports still had power supply so I plugged in 4 devices and the battery soon drained and I could boot the machine again.

Weird thing is I found out I did turn off the auto sleep in power option, this seemed not to be a sleep/wake failure problem, and when the laptop is running normally, I actually can force it to turn off by holding the power button. Now I'm not sure if it is a Windows 8.1 bug or a hardware/compatibility problem. Hope it won't happen again I wasted a whole day on it :(

Recently bought the P35k in Taipei. Its an amazing machine and I've had zero issues with it so far. No bending, no dead pixels and the salesman even told me the front part comes with a five year warranty. Included were a gigabyte mouse and gigabyte carrying case. I do think its annoying to have the recovery partition on the ssd, is there a simple way to move it to the hard drive?

Also finger prints show up quite a bit compared to my last aluminum body macbook. Is there any sort of cover that could be used to prevent them and perhaps scratches? I've only seen cases for macbooks and cellphones

That's good :) happy for you bro, Your best bet is backup the recovery on a flash drive and from disk management just delete the recovery partition and add it to the os drive, technically I see no use for it laying there if you have it a flash drive

I've seen a few people and a couple reviews remark about the touchpad. How bad is it, and what exactly makes it so terrible to use? Has anyone tried updating the driver to see if the problems are fixed? I normally use an external, but that's not always an option.

    Thanks!

Mine has a little gap that I can push on but it doesn't really look like it's floating. Right by the arrow keys?

thwam: It's not a software/driver issue. It's physically horrible to click. I've never used a mouse with a laptop besides when playing LoL but now I'm using it full time with this laptop. It's also rather large so I keep accidentally touching it while I type. I just now hit it again and it made it fly to another windows 8 page -_-. I really hating this windows 8 lol.

Ok this is driving me a little nuts. Does anyone else's buzz (vibrate) while it sits on a desk? I can stop the buzzing when my wrists are on the laptop when I type or I just push down on it but as soon as I take my hands off it's like a low buzzing. It's mainly coming from the left side. I can press on the left corner near the 2 year warranty sign and it stops but if I press on the other side near the geforce sticker its still buzzing.

Thanks for the feedback. I was really hoping that the problem was a driver issue and would be resolved by now. While I know the MSI GS70 has it's own faults, this problem is unfortunately a deal breaker and will send me to the MSI. Very boo, because I like the smaller form factor of the P35K.

well actually you don't need to click, just tap will do the trick, and you can map two/three finger tap to mid/right button in touchpad preference so it's not a problem.
What bothers me more about the touchpad is it does not give constant feedback as I move. Sometimes the mouse on screen moves longer distance sometimes shorter, sometimes even gets stuck and then leaps a little bit, feels like it has relatively low sample rate for your finger position.

Hey there just got my P35K yesterday. I wanted to test it so I installed Tomb Raider. I tried to turn on all the effect and ultra setting. But I found out that it's not playable base on these setting. But I saw some people test it on razer blade 14 inch it can still get like 40 fps. But when I googled these tow I found out that P35K has higher than razer blade 14 inch on 3dmark. So I wonder that why my P35K can't run it on these settings. Before I bought P35K I was kind of wondering between it and razer blade 14 inch. But after I searched online and I found that a lot of compare form it seem like P35K is more powerful  Thanks for watching it.

Razer blade has a lower native resolution than the P35K - assuming in both examples the game is being run at native.

    Beat me to it :p

If you want higher FPS, you could (obviously) just turn down the settings or, less obviously and alternately set it at 1600x900 like the Razer Blade.

You didn't mention it, but also make sure that the game is set to run through the discrete nvidia card and not through the integrated Intel GPU -- the integrated unit will not be able to handle the game. I don't have any experience with Optimus, but I believe this is set through the nvidia control panel.

I have a question regarding the RAM.
A few owners of the version with 8GB reported having a single RAM stick of 8GB in their laptop.
Some also posted the exact model number of the RAM, so I ordered the exact same one (Transcend TS1GSK64W6H) for the P35K I should be getting in a few days.
A few days ago, this post came up and confused me because it sounds like there are 2x4GB in the 8GB version...
Could a few people that own the laptop comment on this? Maybe they ship some with a single stick and some with two?
    I appreciate your help :)

nope only single 8gb is used for the p35k and may i ask where you bought the TS1GSK64W6H from ? cause you need to watch out. there is ddr3l and there is ddr3 which uses more power. let me know.
the cf2 only comes with one 8gb+4gb ram as for the cf1 it comes with one 8gb stick.

I can't decide between the p35k and the dell xps 15, in particular QHD TN vs FHD IPS. Has anyone seen both side by side / have opinions?

My requirements are 15", portable as possible (wrt size and battery life), reasonably powerful (light gaming, developer work), and screen.

Alright, thank you! I ordered it from a store called notebooksektor.de, I'm from Germany though. It says 1.35V and DDR3L on the RAM stick, so I should be fine, right?

You could try checking the screws underneath to ensure that they are tight. I'm not certain how this model is constructed, but that can sometimes be an issue. If not, it may just snap into place, in which case you may want to try applying a slight bit of pressure to see if it clicks in -- that is if you haven't already tried that. :)

I'll take a pic of mine but can you take a picture from the right side of the laptop looking at it? Mine has a larger gap on the right than left side but I can't tell if it's the same as yours. If it's same gap or same lift.

If I use 1920x1080 on ffxiv I'm getting 21 as well. Benchmark I'm getting 5100 score on high laptop setting.

this question is indeed inappropriate since you already bought the p35k..also, someone already answered you at this question already..so i don't know what you what to hear now, because anyway it seems that u have no idea about laptops and component in general...but regardless from which point you are looking the p35k is more powerful than the Razer because it has a faster CPU and the GPU's are the same. (as long as you'll compare both at the resolution 1600 x 900 as you mentioned) It also has better upgradeability than the Razer..happy now?

Has anybody else tested their temperatures during gaming? I'm getting close to 90 degrees C on my CPU and 80 degrees C on my GPU. I'm worried that the CPU is abnormally high, since I got the repaste upgrade from GentechPC.

Before I bought my p35k I already check specs on these two. I know that p35k's CPU is faster and GPU are the same. According to my experience even if they have the same specs sometime it can still have different result. But thanks for ur reply.

    Received my P35K today. :)
    Overall, it's an amazing machine.
I did notice a problem with the chassis, though. The area left from the touchpad is a curved on my laptop. I tried to take pictures, they're not the best but maybe someone understands what I mean and can report if their laptop is the same.
    Thanks.

yeah yeah its super normal like that, i have been asking people all around and checking there machines and i developed a list of how its been manufactured and whats normal and whats not. i will post a list today with pictures showing all the normal things that you see on it. this is based on 8 users who have the same exact things.

And for anybody having the rubber footing not touching the table completely on any side, the solution is simple. just turn the laptop around unscrew all the screws and re screw them again tightly. i would unscrew them all and start re screwing them from the bottom up. YOU DONT HAVE TO OPEN THE CASE!! JUST UNSCREW AND RE SCREW TIGHTLY. you will notice the laptop is really straight and firmer. and this is a proven thing for 4 people including me, i had the left side raised by a hair which isn't even noticeable but im picky lol. i told the 4 others to do that and they all! literally all had the laptop straight and firm from every angle.

I discovered this cause when i first got the laptop i tested if it straight and i noticed the left side is floating by a hair, it didnt bother me i moved on with it. so one day i wanted to do a recovery and it recovered to the normal hdd not the msata. so in order to recover windows to the msata you have to unplug the normal hdd and recover. i did that and all went well. when i screwed the laptop back in. i noticed its really straight and actually firmer and stronger. sorry for the essay :$

so if anyone wants to do a recovery to the msata instead of the hdd, you have to unplug the hdd and keep the msata plugged in and do a recovery then plug it back in after. just make sure the hdd is formatted before you unplug it. now you can all buy msata for your cf1 and do a recovery

Oh good! my center one on the left doesn't touch and I think it's contributing to the vibrating noise. I was about to stick a shim under it when I got home today to see if the contact will stop the vibrating but I guess I'll try the screws first. I asked Ken at gentech and he hears the noise too so spinning from the harddrive is vibrating against the chasis since the laptop is so thin.
