Guys, I feel like I need to say that you should not expect 40 FPS on Ultra while playing BF4.

All my settings are on HIGH and my highest FPS are around 80 FPS, and my lowest are 35. The mean average on high was 45 FPS

On Ultra I get 55 FPS max, 20 Low, mean average 30 FPS.
I consider this unplayable due to video lag.

So yeah it might be playable on some maps with no action happening, but Battlefield isn't known for that.

Keep in mind I have a GTX770m and that the GTX765m performance should be similar but differ by 3-7 FPS.

20 FPS constantly would be close to unplayable but not nearly that bad. Movies are played in 24 fps and generally 30 fps is considered smooth. Between 60 and 120 fps you might notice a bit of a difference, things will be smoother but the difference isn't that great. Also you're recording which would tick off a couple of fps. Also you might be running different driver version than: Battlefield 4 - Nvidia GTX 765M 2GB - Ultra Settings 1080P 40FPS+ (on the Gigabyte P35K) - YouTube

Although that video above doesn't see much action so who knows what it'd be like in heavy frame rendering situations. The 770m is obviously more powerful than the 765m by a noticeable margin but I wouldn't give up hope that it could run BF4 on ultra smoothly.

I genuinely feel sorry for you that you think 30 fps is considered smooth for an FPS. I consider 40-60 to be bare minimum that's enjoyable. Any lower and the latency will be high enough to be frustrating.
24 fps film cannot be compared to a video game. Each frame in a game is a discrete image. Each frame on film is blurred. Think of it in terms of pausing, if you pause a game the screen will be a perfectly frozen snapshot with no blurring. Pausing a movie as we all know will have motion blur.

The GTX765m can play BF4 without major issues just don't expect to play on Ultra @1080.

Thanks for the video :). don't expect BF4 with 60+ fps average with ultra mode not even with GTX780M.

Also here is the shipment update for P35K-CF1: it's coming today (11/12/2013) and just like CF2, it will be only with repackaging version. we will still inspect every unit before ship to customers.

Will you be doing your "Bending Video" without the centre support?

That is incorrect, all film frames are single standalone frames, what you have seen is a MPEG encoded version of a film, that will "blur" during encoding.

Perception of smoothness varies from person to person so I'm sorry my eyes aren't super good like yours but I do consider 30 fps to be smooth. I'm sure your ears are superior and can hear the difference between uncompressed FLAC files and 320 kbps mp3's as well. Brains will adjust to various framerates though, so a constant framerate is usually more important than super high ones after about 24 fps. I agree that you do need the higher framerates in first person shooters, but 30 fps is already 33 ms between frames, which is much faster than the average human reaction time already. Anybody buying this laptop expecting it to run BF4 on ultra with high fps is in the wrong market, it's just nice to know that it CAN play BF4 on ultra in any capacity.

Received my P35K CF1 finally. Awesome laptop except that there appears to be a 1-2mm gap between the bottom section and the lid caused by some bowing round the ODD. There is also a rattling sound in the left which is noticeable since the right fan doesn't make this noise. I'm pretty sure this laptop is second batch since I purchased it from OCUK only 1 week ago.

Anyone else have these issues and do you think its worth RMAing it?

+1. I think a lot of people are curious to see if they'll be able to make a purchase with confidence. Could this video also be done on a hard and flat surface?
    Eagerly awaiting the news

Man, this is pretty bad news if this is from the second batch.

I disagree. Any camera capturing motion whose film exposure time is not infinitely small(read: all cameras) will have some blur.

There is no point doing this as it simply is testing for compression - not flexing.

I don't see how it could be from the second batch since GenTech just got their new ones. Did the packaging have a middle support or the corners of the foam filled in (if that makes sense)?

OCUK got their shipment earlier than US resellers.

UPDATE: GentechPC just elevated my order from pending to authorized and have charge me money! Finally someone willing to take my money.

Really excited for the good news. but I'm even more anxious on reports on the laptop.

The non bent first batches weren't that bad as I was told on facebook and at OCUK.
So I would still have high hopes for the machine to perform well.

    @Zippokid
As far as I am aware there are only one set of drivers that work for Battlefield on mobile and that is the latest driver available to download.(There are also no other beta drivers)

I really want to say that user was being really kind with his numbers.

Also BF4 is highly un optimized.
I can be on ultra averaging 45 fps just looking at a tree and if that tree falls by an explosion my FPS will stay at 35 FPS for the rest of the match.

Mobile GPU drivers aren't typically updated as much as desktop equivalents. If you want drivers you'd have to download custom drivers. Are you running nVidia driver v331.65?

Mater of fact in 4 hours I'll leave that's when the pickup store opens. I will keep you updated on everything

    Wish me luck

How bad is it? This was my first choice for new laptop and, while I treat my gadgets well, I don't want something that I feel is going to break or bend if my girlfriend or someone picks it up on one side.

Can GenTech/Owners comment on how significant the structural issue is in day to day usage?

Do you own a P35k / where and how long did you get to handle it? I'm not looking for something p25w sized, so if its not p35k it won't be gigabyte I go for.

So want the p35k but so scared of the build quality. Im in Canada too so itd be a pain to RMA or send in for warranty claims.

P25w would be ok if it was black.. i was also looking at the new macbooks and their specs are horrible compared to the p35k.

I agree with you, but this is no macbook aluminum you have to understand. It actually is pretty tough. Idk what people were complaining about. I held it from one hand in the middle and the corner and it was pretty rigid and good. I been carying it in the bag all day and bumping into people and it seems to be doing well

Hi everybody! Whiteboyshady could you please post some pics of your laptop and tell if you can see any improvement in the structure.
I was going to buy this laptop today from overclockers uk but i decided not to do it until someone says how it feels in a daily use, i would like to know if it is too weak for carrying all day in a backpack. Thank you all! Great and huuuge post btw ;)

    Hey everyone,
here is my experience with the p35k so far considering I had it just this morning and using it the past 3 hours only.

So first of all I want to thank Gentech PC for getting this laptop in perfect condition and one piece, thanks to there awesome packaging its actually really effective and the box didn't even have a scratch on it

Ok as for the laptop itself...... oh boy where do I start haha
Lets start with the good. The screen is amazing, the viewing angle and clarity of the pixels is unreal! bright and colourfull

The keyboard is nice and firm, it isn't lose or anything. types well and looks nice even the backlit is nice.
the gpu and cpu are very lovely,
the track pad, idk who said its not good its actually very responsive and nice to use.
battery is amazing it lasted me 4.5-5 hours with high brightness and normal internet surfing.
weight is good, can be carried easily.
msata makes it really fun and nice to use, waiting isn't even a word to this laptop. and whoever said from boot to desktop is 9 seconds is a lie its actually from sleep mode 9 seconds but from complete shutdown its 16 seconds.
ok and now the bad which I really hated.....
speaker are by all means crap maybe for ants its good, I had to download audio dfx enhancer to make them good
    the cd drive is loud.
usb connections are so tight! I feel like im gonna break it.
    other than that its nice

gaming is pretty good on the laptop, anything 2011 and under can be played maxed out at 1080p with no problem
2012 and up you can play it at max but 720p some games 1080p but by 720 I mean battlefield, crysis resident evil 6.

the build quality is great but not the best but honestly I see no probem using it everyday. just don't take out the hdd if you move a lot, because I noticed when I lift it with one had from the middle the hdd holds it in place.... I had the laptop on me all day in the bag with books and school stuff and it survived even tho it got a few bumps it survived
    ....

if you have any questions ask
I would give this laptop an 8/10 honestly. cause of those stupid speakers lol

Congratulations for your new toy.... I have a question for you... what about of noise and temperature with a demanding game? too loud ? too hot?

I need a little help, I´m looking for a new laptop and I like a lot p35k, but i want to buy a more powerful option (a long term option) like p25w. What do you think about these options? what do you recommend me (pros & cons)?

Thanks in advance for your help!!!

I am sort of in a similar situation. I have been really looking forward to the p35k for the past few months, it really offers a lot of things that haven't been available on the market from other companies. That having been said, it seems like there have been too many delays, too many things comings up short (displayport, etc.), and a chassis that doesnt inspire confidence. It is an admirable effort in many ways, and I'm sure some will still choose it due to its thin, lightweight, and attractive design. I think I would prefer to have a bit more future-proofing in the performance area and dont mind a bit thicker and heavier build, so I think I will likely go with the new MSI GT60 refresh. the 780m version (2OD) is already available for ~2100$ with a 2880x1620 resolution and 780m 4gb, etc. The 770m (2OC) version should be available shortly and Im guesstimating it will be in the ~1700$ range. They support 3 external displays, but it is a semiglossy display versus matte.
I think for this holiday season we'll be seeing more new 1440p+ offerings.
    Good luck on your choice

Yay! Order is shipped. Hopefully I'll get this laptop by Monday or Tuesday. I got the intel AC 7260 and 2 128gig msatas so I'll post the benchmarks using those as soon as it arrives. Anything in particular that you guys would want me to test? I don't have BF4 but I can definitely test temperatures using any other game. I probably won't do an unboxing video.

EDIT: It won't arrive until Thursday unfortunately, so another week to wait.

Generally no. If it's anodized or electroplated, those should stay on pretty well unless the AL substrate actually gets deformed (like those bent laptops, you're able to see the AL underneath). If it's E-coated, UV will degrade it over time and it may chip, but from the pictures, it doesn't seem like it's E-coated.

If they used powdered or wet coat, those are usually thrown in the oven so there's actual chemical bonds between the paint and AL.

Did some of the paint chip off somewhere?

Were you holding it in the corner with the lid down or up? The lid looks like full AL so that should be pretty sturdy.

I've had my eye on the P35K and this thread for some time now. Finally decided to make an account and actually post.

A bit disappointed with the (eventual) launch of the P35K. Delay after delay and then the bending issue. It doesn't give potential customers a great deal of confidence.

I was planning on getting one for myself and then, if I liked it, getting another for my dad. However my Dad is on a plane twice a week and it seems very unlikely that the P35K would last very long, with frequent travel. At least not without a very sturdy case.

I'm still interested in one for myself as I don't have to travel for work, though.

Not to derail the thread, but what are some good alternatives to the P35K? I'd like something reasonably thin & light, 1600x900 - 1920x1080 screen, good battery (5+ hours light work), decent sized SSD + HDD combo, 13"-15". Don't care if it has an optical drive or not and I also don't care if it has dedicated GPU or not (but I do want a decent CPU).
I know about the Blade 14" (honestly, I'm temped to just grab one of these with a 512GB SSD, but this would be a VERY costly option), GE40 and P34G.

    Any recommendation would be appreciated.

I was looking at the Lenovo U series (U430) and some of the acer models (V7, V5) that have recently had haswell refresh.

Have a look at the P25W

Bit thicker & heavier - but faster GPU and cools well.

The U430 looks pretty decent. Shame it only has one USB 3 port, though. I'd have to have minimum 2 USB 3. Even if it meant no USB 2.

Also I'm just going to put it out there, orange Lenovo Yogo 13 is the most gorgeous laptop I've ever seen. USB is pretty disappointing, though (1x2.0 & 1x3.0), seems to be a trend with Lenovo laptops.

Going to have to have a look through Lenovo's current offerings. The T440 looks nice, too.

I was going to go lenovo, but I want the IPS Full HD screen. The lenovo models are mostly not (currently, though some have it listed as an option in uk) available with Full HD and/or IPS. I actually prefer the looks of the P35K also, but thats not a major concern.

I'm still tempted by the P35k, most owners (bar BlkKnight) have responded that they are pretty happy with the machine and that it is robust enough.

@WhiteBoySHady - how good/bad is the fan noise when not gaming (i.e. surfing, watching videos etc.)? Most gaming laptops make a reasonable amount of noise when under full load.

GenTech have also gone very quiet.

They (like me) said the machine needed re-inforcing.

They've not said anything since - nor have they re-shot the "stress video" - but have hinted they would not be happy to do so :)

As long as you are aware of the P35K's shortcomings and avoid stressing it too much I'm sure you'll be fine.

Me being a bit of a oaf would not want to worry about such issues.
