    Hello,

I have a gigabyte aero 15. I'm trying to plug a monitor with a dvi input into the mini display port. Using this website as a reference for the different DVI interfaces:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Visual_Interface

I bought a cable on amazon that does mini display to DVI-D dual link. Unfortunately this isn't working. Should I have bought a mini display port to a different dvi interface? How do you know what interface (dvi side) to use? Will the mini display port output video if I get a DVI-I dual link cable?

I'm running the latest nVideo drivers for the gtx 1060 in this laptop. Any help is appreciated!

ps: I'm using a passive cable

    Thanks!

You need an active cable, also I haven't been able to find a proper dvi-d to mdp for high refresh rates

Yup that was the problem. I bought this for the laptop and it works now.

I'm only running at 1920x1080 at 60Hz though so I don't know from a performance standpoint how much higher you can go. I'm also using a single link DVI cable. I'm not sure if a dual link would help with higher refresh rates and resolution. I know you need the dual link to do the higher resolutions.

The one I bought worked fine at 60Hz, but anything above that would throw an error on the monitor telling me to use the original cable, even though the cable I bought was advertised as mini dp to dvi-d.
So as long as you stay at 60Hz, you should be fine.
