Nope, you'll have almost zero gain and after a long time end up installing what the laptop already came with.
Except the software actually needed there is very little added by default, infact I have not found any...

But, I ended up removing smart manager and do not miss the function keys, but my laptop feels a lot more responsive, no pointer lockups and not touch pad disappearing (thats a weired one) once smart manager starts :/

Jo in short just remove what you don't like.

    2) modify the offset
3)can and shoud be the same as core offset
4)Minor undervervolt to integrated GPU won't hurt, like 0.07V

I sent it back because I bought it off eBay and it was used. The heat was rediculous and the display would turn off and not come back. Gpu would not maintain any MHz. It would stay high after gaming.

I've managed to find a set of RAM through my local Gigabyte distributor to match my stock set of V-color memory. Finally running a stable 32GB Dual channel setup. :)

Anyone running dual DIMMs, have you observed increased CPU temperate when running dual channel memory configuration? My CPU seems to have jumped up about 5-10c as a result of the second stick of RAM.

At the same time, I've added a 1TB Samsung 970 EVO drive and an Intel 9620 WiFi card. Everything working really well.

What SSD / nvme should I get for 500GB and reducing heat / power usage from the stock SSD?

Im running dual dimms, a Crucial 2666 set and no heat issues. I also put in the Samsung 970 1TB and about to use that as my main windows location, even though it will mean more hassle when reinstalled windows.

I've had my Aero 15W for about a month now. I'm having problems with the USB ports. I sit mine on a coolermaster cooling stand, but I have to unplug and replug in the USB numerous times for it to start working. I also am trying to use a USB C displaylink monitor. It used to work but something recently has made it stop. I dont know if it was a bios update, I have tried FB06 and FB07 (I dont have anything earlier downloaded) but it just wont work, either through the USB C port or any of the USB 3 A ports, even with drivers. It works fine on every other computer. Thorugh the USB C port it does an error, and it wont even power on via the USB A ports.
    Anyone had similar issues?

Same here for a different USB A problem.
Had mine for about a month. Updated drivers and Windows but I haven't done any BIOS updates.
For the last week, the left one doesn't work at all.. I know that it worked before because I used an Oculus Rift on the left USB 3/A with the HDMI.
I've turned off the USB-power-save mode, reinstalled USB hub drivers.
But the left USB/A is totally dead. Tried keyboards, USB fan, mouse, hard drive, memory stick. Nothing.

    Anybody else?

you could try pasting thermal pad on the SSD.... it could play the role as conductor between D cover and the SSD controller

I also have a dead USB-A (left hand side). USB C/thunderbolt works ok.
Do you suggest I also do a default system restore?
My concern is I just end up with the same result after Windows updates, etc.

Is there any way to find out if this is a physical problem with the port?

The new smart manager update is decent if you don't enable (do not disturb).

    For example:
    • if you try to increase brightness there's no ui with do not disturb disabled
    • if you increase brightness with do not disturb enabled the ugly obtrusive UI appears while you increase brightness

I got problem with MSI afterburner keep polling the dGPU, is there anyway to undervolt the GPU without using Afterburner? or does the voltage curve setting is stored even without running Afterburner on startup?

This thread has been a gold mine of information, and thank you so much for keeping it up to date!

If I may add something: for me, launching the task manager on my Aero 15 v7 simply killed the computer for a long, long time, especially if I had the power saver setting on - the mouse itself became unresponsive/extremely sluggish, and I couldn't figure out why. This was my biggest problem with the computer: there were times this slowed down the computer for such an extent I was forced to turn it off with a long power button press. Thanks to this Reddit thread I finally found the solution: this was fixed by disabling the callGigabytefusionshortcutService in the startup applications. Yep, that easy, and it really helps a lot. I would suggest adding it to the top, as I apparently wasn't the only one affected by this issue!

All of the usb-A ports on my aero are working.

    thanks thread updated

I think the nvidia drivers have tried to fix the polling issue several times. Yes, you can undervolt without afterburner but it's complicated. you need to use some 3rd party tools, scripts, and edit csv files to do the manual voltage curve - I hint at this technique in the OP post but I think it would be easier for you to just apply the undervolt via afterburner then close it, less hassle. AB doesn't have to be running for the undervolt to stick afaik.

Does the volt curve stick after restart? Or should I run it first then turn it off? I think it is possible to create a task to do that using task scheduler.

On subject of usb port, the troubled port only affect some of my external drive so I think it is hard to pin point why it doesn't work. I will try to experiment with usb hubs, see if it changes something.

The voltage curves clear after restarts, if you are using afterburner to apply the undervolt you can save the voltage curve to a profile and hit the 'apply on startup' button. You could then close out manually or make a bat file that does it

Thanks for your hard work in compiling and updating this guide!

Gotten my FHD 15x v8 last week. Studying this guide to have a good image of how to optimize performance.

    Some queries to clarify:
    1. Am considering getting a dual memory G.Skills Ripjaws (32GB) 16GB x 2, 2666mhz from newegg (since they are having a sale), but had read about the second memory card slot not functioning well. Not sure if it is still advisable.
    2. Had purchased 2 sticks of M.2 Samsung 970 Evo 500GB, so i'll probably have to do a fresh install anyway. Would it make sense to do a RAID 0 configuration to maximise the performance?
    3. Am considering swapping out the wifi card for an Intel 9260. Is a specific model to use (NGW or NGFF?)

    1. RAID 0 is not officially supported on AERO and the truth is the performance delta of RAID on PCIe SSD is quite limited
    2. I guess this is what you need - the naming rule of Intel wifi:

    Thanks g85222456 for clarifying.

Noted on the RAID 0 configuration.

With regards to Intel 9260 wifi card, what should I look out for in the description or specification when browsing for compatibility to Aero 15x v8 please?

actually we haven't tested 9260 on AERO before - so we cannot guarantee 100% compatible
however if you really want to do so, just check if the form factor of the wifi card is M.2 2230

    Question ...

How can you tell if you are being throttled vs. are actually overloading your system??

    Thanks :)

Use throttlestop and check on limits, or you can also use xtu/hwinfo and they will show when you are throttled either by power/prochot/temp.

Very keen to find out what the memory you found to work is. I did the exact thing you did with the gskill not working and need to find a 16gb ram stick to partner with the v-color one. Could you let me know the model number and where you ordered it from please - I'm in Australia to.

    Hey everyone,
I have been using the first Aero 15X (7700HQ with 1070) with no great problems until last week.

After some Windows Update last week I have big battery woes.
After waking up from sleep, CPU Package Power is stuck at 12 Watts when idle that leads to my battery draining in 2-3 hours.
It is fine after restarting, back to normal power usage rate which is 1W maximum when idle.
I guess this is not a Gigabyte bug but rather Intel/Windows bug because I noticed people complaining in Razer, Dell etc. forums too.

Is there a solution to this or do I have to live with not being able to use sleep?

..sigh...I have a lot of engineering software that is a pain to install and configure so I really don't want to mess with a rollback.
I guess I'll just get another drive and use linux for daily things until this is fixed (which i'm not really hopeful that it will ever happen considering it doesn't seem like a widespread bug.).

Optimus bug, spectre bug now this. It is honestly amazing to me that these companies can't really get their **** together. No wonder people flock to Apple..

I looked through the thread - and sorry if I did not find it - has anyone posted screenshots of ThrottleStop Settings?

I'm a bit of a newbie to this end of things and am a bit scared to mess up!

Ha...Interestingly, enabling hybrid sleep fixed the issue. CPU can now find the correct power state after waking up.
You can try telling this to your customers if anyone comes to you with battery woes.

Hi, I'm having the same struggle with my addtional ram too. Exactly the same issue you were having.

Did you get yours fix evetually?

My aero15 came with Kingston ram so I purchased a Kingston 16gb DDR4. but It went straight into blank screen after I added the addtional ram.

Even with single channel with the new RAM does not help.

I'm already running F07 BIOS but it does not fix anything.

Hi I just joined the Aero 15xv8 club, and must say that I like the machine EXCEPT for the POOR speakers that it has compared to the sound I get from my Samsung S9 phone.

I currently only just the Dolby Atoms software so far but are still far from disappointed.

Is the full removal of the Realteck + Dolby Atmos to use Windows Sound driver with Equalizer APO worth the effort for more a bit more bass?

What drivers is everyone using for

    •intel chipset
    •Intel management engine

I installed the one from smart update but I wasn’t sure since it wasn’t listed as the most recent drivers on the downloads page for gigabyte.

Also what’s the consensus on the FB07 bios? Is it good to go?

I’m on FB05 and the last bios update I did through smart manager was pretty scary ahhaha

I believe Software won't fix the cheap speakers.

So only option is to find Premium Speaker hardware that could be swaped. Happy to try alternatives.

Are the Speaker from Auros Series any better and would fit?

Installed the new nvidia drivers and new bios that were just released, and noticed that the notebook now starts with a yellow tinted screen when booting.

Once booted, all goes brigth white again, as if some colour profiles is delayed loading.

Anybody else notice this, or even has a fix for me?

Dear all, I have been having lots of ACPI 13 error until releasing I compared against the existing setup with my clean setup and notice that even with the provided intel chipset driver one of them is not identified properly. I download via intel by searching hm370 chipset and stable has been working fine so far. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/28182/?product=135101

LATEST UPDATE: The ACPI still comes back occasionally. I am on the latest drivers.
I am not sure if it's due to any hardware issue.

The version you link to is 10.1.17. In Smart Update the latest version is reported as 10.1.17695.8086. What is the full version reported by Smart Update for the one you linked to?

Looking at the Release Notes (on the linked page), the latest Intel version is 10.1.17765.8094 (Aug 24, 2018). The official Gigabyte version is from June 19, 2018.

I came across this discussion in part because I'm trying to resolve an issue where my Aero 15X (2018) keeps freezing for 5 seconds (give or take) at a time. There is a 1:1 relationship between these freezes and an ACPI 13 (EC) error. Can anyone confirm whether they also have a similar behavior? I've seen other discussions where people say 'don't worry' about this error, just ignore it. But that seems to suggest they don't have the freezing behavior.

While frozen, the mouse pointer still moves (although it doesn't change its image) and the keyboard accepts keystrokes (which appear after the freeze ends). If playing video, the sound continues but the display is frozen.

Okay thanks for that. I noticed you need to look at the htm version of the release notes as the txt version does not give the full version info.

I have exactly the problem with battery life described on page 1, i.e.:

"intel cpu eating power when it should be idle (staying around 12W even though clocks are ~900MHz and no load)

Issue B is very insidious, likely related to gigabyte software. If you switch fan modes/power plan options using gigabyte smart manager with throttlestop open, you will notice package power use jump up to 12W sustained for several seconds. It should come back down to idle but may not always do so for some users. This can destroy battery life (normally the CPU only uses <3W idle).

Issue B can also arise when the nvidia GPU is toggled on or off - for a period of time afterwards you will notice the package power reading 12W. This should drop back down to normal levels after a while."

The only differences in my case being that although the package power is hovering at 12-13W, the clocks are flicking between ~900MHz and ~2080MHz (according to HWMonitor) and that more often than not the situation doesn't simply correct itself.

Like others I had assumed it to be an issue with the 1070 always being on until I discovered this thread. I do have Throttlestop applying an undervolt and I do use Smart Manager to manage my fan profiles, but I do not need to start actively using either of these to trigger the excessive CPU package power draw - it seems to kick in as soon as I startup.

Please, please can someone point me in the direction of a solution for this - it's really spoiling my enjoyment of an otherwise great laptop.
