Has anyone explored using a smaller charger with Aero?
My last laptop was i7 XPS 15, Same basic power setup as my Aero 17 (1660) except the battery was bigger on XPS. It's charger was less than half the size of Aero's, and only 130 W. Why is the Aero charger so big?
My guess is that they only have one and it has to service all CPU/graphics options.
Hence my question: Is it really necessary to have this monster charger with i7/1660ti?
Also, I wonder if a smaller charger might not trigger the annoying as hell circuit whine.
Any thoughts?

I guess the bigger the charger the "safer" it is. But if you look at TongFang GK5CN (Mech-15 and others) with i7 and 1660Ti, it comes with very slim, relatively light (<0.5kg) and powerful enough (180W) power brick, so it is possible.

Obviously there's more to power draw than just CPU and GPU, so you can't realistically compare two different laptops like that when it comes to the power draw they want. Also, besides the components themselves, how they're configured can also make a large difference in their power draw. The manufacturer, in theory, knows how much the laptop can draw at its max and pairs an 'adequate' power supply (some provide chargers that can go over the max draw 'just in case' while others actually have been seen provided chargers rated fro lass wattage than what the laptop draws).
You want a power adapter that meets or exceeds the max power draw of the device as otherwise you can have one of two outcomes:
1) 'Malfunction' of the power adapter (worst case scenario, FIRE! FIRE EVERYWHERE!)
2) The laptop's performance is power limited (even if adequate cooling is available, performance would be hindered)
Why do they make and sell big power adapters? Simple, it's cheaper to make a big power adapter rated for X Watts than making a small one for the same (especially one that is safe and won't catch on fire or get dangerously hot). -

I run my Aero on a Razer 165W adapter and it's fine for everything short of full CPU/GPU usage.

It seems Razer's adapters reign supreme regarding smaller size. Their 200W adapter didn't grow much compared to their 165W one either; the 165W is 5.9" x 2.36" x .87" while the 200W is 6.18" x 2.56" x .93"

As long as the votage matches, you may be able to use special cable with type-c pd charger. 65W pd charger is very small.
