I want to get a new laptop and am in between the two laptops in the title. I've been following the P35X thread on and off for some time now but just learned about the P34W and have been researching it. As far as gaming goes, I play LoL and would like to play BF4. I can't play BF4 on my current Alienware M14x. I also browse facebook a lot and watch numerous youtube videos. In general, I want a portable, fast, and powerful laptop. Price is not really a concern, so which one would you guys recommend? I love having a 14" laptop but my concern is overheating with the P34W. Plus the 970M card in the P34W vs the 980M card in the P35x is another worry as I'd like to get a laptop that will be able to play games and be future-proof for awhile.

If money is no issue I would go for the Razer blade. The p34 is nice but it has a lot of quality control issues. I only can imagine that the P35 has the same issues. If size is not an issue. Than an Alienware 15 with the 980 is a great option.

What kind of QC issues does the P34 have? I'm not keen on another Alienware as mine has some issues with my internet browsers and my battery life is absolutely horrible; I'd like to try another brand.Last edited: May 10, 2015 -
Well I hda 3 units. The first one has clickpad buttons sticking out of the chassis instead of being flush, uneven base which made the laptop wobble on a flat table and a screen that wasn't installed perfectly level.
The second one had these issues too but horrid backlight bleeding next to that. The third one is okay with flush clickpad buttons, almost no backlight bleed and no wobbling. But the powerbutton is now recessed a bit compared to the other mothers. Irks me but that is the perfectionist in me speaking. So I had to go trough 2 replacements before getting a decent one. -
Oh wow, that's not good at all. Hmm, I'll do some more research to see about these QC issues. I'd like to have a 14" laptop but not if there's going to be problems like that.

Well I'm not going over my laptop with a fine tooth comb but I like things to work and be good if I'm spending this much money. I'm in the U.S. so if I want to get the razer blade I could. Is razer a more established company than gigabyte? Up until I started following the P35x thread I haven't heard of either.
What games do you play on your P34W and how much battery life do you get out of it? -

The 980m is comparable to desktop GTX 970 card.
Already we have seen some rather demanding recent games where even desktop GTX 980 cannot keep consistent 60fps 1080p at maximum settings, let alone weaker cards.
If you will primarily play league of legends, this is not a demanding game, so 960m and 970m could handle it quite easily.
However, if you want to play more demanding titles and future games coming out in the next few years at high settings, 60fps, I'd consider instead getting a laptop with 980m if it fits within your budget. -
I'd like to play BF4 on the laptop I get, if the 970M can support that I might get it as the small size is a plus. I honestly don't know if I'll be playing demanding titles coming out in the future, I just want a fast and powerful laptop. I'm not a fan of laptops with a side number pad like the P35x has but I can deal with it if it's a standard of 15.6" laptops. I've never had a laptop bigger than 14" so I'm not sure if it is.
Did you pull the trigger on the laptop that you wanted to order or are you still waiting? -
I play BF4, TItanlfall, Shadow of Mordor, Mortal Kombat X and many other games on it. THe 970m handles them all pretty well
THe current console generation keeps the system requirements a bit low so I am myself not to worried about the specs of this machine. As long as the games have to run on a PS4 this laptop can run it as well. Not talking about ultra high settings but normal settings over time ofcourse. But now the laptop does run every game on high settings with often just antia aliasing turned of. -
Ah ok. Good to hear that the 970m handles the games well. I wouldn't have a need to play everything on high settings. From reading reviews, people claim that the P34W is the fastest 14" laptop on the market, but it seems comparable to the new razer. Which one would you choose if you had to do it over again?

I would choose the razer if I could. But it's not for sale in Europe. I had a Razer in my hands in Japan. The older 870 version adn the built quality was superb. It felt premium, it's built premium and it performs. The new Razer Blade 14 2014 and the Gigabyte P34W v3 perform the same. They have the same hardware, similar thermal handling and similar form factor. Just the Blade is a Macbook style unibody while the Gigabyte is a plastic frame with aluminum panels and plastic keyboard frame.

Good to know, thanks for the info. I would get the razer blade 2015 as it recently became available. What about between this one and the gigabyte P35x v3? That's about what I have it narrowed down to, not quite sure. I'm not a huge fan of the side number pad but the 980m is pretty solid from what I hear. Plus the bigger laptop would allow it to run cooler than the small razer.

I dont like the P35 because of the cd drive in the middle of the laptop front, It doesnt look good, it is hardly used so it is valuable space wasted and it hurts the structural integrity. THere are some issues regarding flexing with those units and buldges in the frame where the mechanical drive is located?
I know I sound quite negative regarding Gigabyte laptops now. I do like the simple designs and overall specs. But I am very disappointed in some QC issues. These are fairly pricey laptops. I expect more for that money,Jbgolf52 likes this. -
Na I agree with you there. I've been combing through the P35x thread and I want to love it but it seems that someone always has an issue with their laptop. If it's not the Internet card it's what you said about the build.
I admit, while the Alienware is bulky it looks great and has an excellent build. I wouldn't want to spend that much for a laptop that has issues such as those. Getting a laptop with a 980m would be sweet but not if the issues that plague the P35x come with it. Is there a 14 or 15.6" laptop with a 980m card that you like or should I stick with the 970m in the razer blade? -
The only 980 laptop I would want is the Alienware 15. But not if I would to have travel a lot with it. I love the thin form factor of the gigabyte p34. THe reason why I kept it. This makes the better built Razer Blade 14 unbeatable in my opinion. The laptop that I want the most (and cant get in Europe )

I would buy it at a chain with a good return policy and reputation regarding support. Not so into the US market like that .
I would get the FHD version. The higher resolution doesnt work to well with laptop gpu's. -
