Heat: under load 82-85 GPU 91CPU (max degrees celsius)
Noise: inaudible under normal use, 35dB-40dB under load, owners say it is way improved compared to p35k, so my guess is around 35-40dB but it isn't accurate data. Owners say noise is ok.
Screen: excellent image quality, might not be IPS
Build quality: good, feels solid, bottom is plastic, top is aluminium
Easiness to upgrade: RAM very easy 1-2 screws, for the rest you need to take out all screws
Easiness to change ODD for HDD: incredibly easy, hot swap, just push a button.
FPS tests: Crysis 3 ultra feels good, you can get decent FPS for Watchdogs in High, almost all modern games playable ultra around 35fps and high 60fps
That's it. If I forgot something, do not hesitate to say what

Right now this is the laptop I'm gunning for without question
I've gone and translated some of the titles of these Korean/Chinese videos and their captions.

Don't take Lim Hyuntaek's (LH) videos seriously, they use low settings, have a really garbage framerate (via recording software) and do not show the true potential of this laptop.

Can I see some shots and size comparisons of the laptop itself, anyone from PAX 2014?Last edited by a moderator: May 6, 2015Cloudfire and shempmalone like this. -
I'm looking forward to some information about this model, particularly GPU performance and temperatures since we can already assume the rest from the P35G v2.

Ok so this laptop will be out next week Monday or Tuesday so we shall see then
I already pre ordered mine. I had the p35k which is the same but 765m graphics
But I sold it last week
I'll see how it goes next week eeeep so excited -
-
Would really like to know how this laptop performs as well, been looking at all the MSI models before but am now down to the p35w v2 and p25w v2 (bit bigger, but maybe also better cooling?)!
Hope i can make an informative decision soon, need one early June. -
Are there any pictures of what this system looks like under the hood? I'd like to know if the mSATA is the special fitted type like MSI is using (GS60 Ghost Pro) or if they're the standard ones.
-
I've tried to read up on this laptop and found out that the P35K had problems with heat and therefore alot of noise from the fan. Has Gigabyte done anything to improve the thermaldesign on the P35W?

This is probably the one I am going to get also.
I'm waiting for a few reviews first tho. -

Although when i saw that pic i was a bit shocked by the build quality, if i even want to call it 'build quality'

Hopefully just a engineering sample, but why would this be used for press introduction and photos...
Excited to see temps and fan noise under load. The GS 60/70 Pros with equal thickness and gpu don't raise my hope though... -

its funny how when everyone was saying msi ghost is better but when i tell them the p35w 870m has 6gb ram rather than 3gb they get mind blown and regret the msi
-
There are the reason why I got the P35W v2 over the GS60 Ghost Pro:
- MSI uses non-standard mSATA hard drives.
- i7-4710HQ vs i7-4700HQ (Newer and faster cpu)
- 6GB GDDR3 vs 3GB
- Swappable ODD/(HDD/SSD) bay
-
Amazing spec machine for the money. Wonder how hard it throttles and how good is the battery.
-
I'm PSYCHED for your reviews guys.

anything hardware i can fix myself if its unplugged or anything -
I would love to see the graphics power on games like TERA and also see what the temps are like in order to know whether or not I'll get that IC Diamond Thermal Paste. -

Sorry late reply guys, I got the package and it arrived safely with no damage and no dents not even the box cause of the great double packaging! I'll share my experience Tomorow but I'll give you guys a teaser OMG the fans are so so much better than the p35k so silent and blow air very well! More air and quiter too !

Can't wait for your review, but to be honest i'm quite afraid of the temps (under load) though, especially if the fans shall be quieter with a much stronger and hotter graphics card... -
I'm waiting for it with broadwell.

Will do the review today and show you guys what the problems I faced.... Aka nvidia drivers.... You believe they only have one beta driver.....? And I had to flash the bios cause it was a bloody mess. Gigabyte probably didn't even test the motherboard lol
-
Will be looking forward to a nice user review. Can you post some temps and comment on the fan profiles when gaming?
Are they constantly on with different settings like the MSI Ghost or is it pretty silent when doing simple web browsing stuff and ramps up under load? How is the screen?
Sorry for all the questions but this seems like a good alternative for another laptop. -

ok hey everyone
just wanna say thanks for gentech for getting it here in really great shape. the double boxing really helps alot. the box had not a single damage on it! not even the laptop.
so i got the laptop yesterday and went on testing stuff on it ill tell you what is so different and better than last year model and the two games i only tested so far were crysis 2 and need for speed rivals, assassins creed. the temps below are what its mostly around..
1) the touch pad is so amazing. so responsive and accurate
2) really nice bright colours and one thing i noticed is that its not 100% ips as last year... my p35k had better viewing angles but i guess better colors im happy haha.
3) the fans. i cant stress this enough the fans are literly 120% better than last year. they blow early so nicely and the laptop isnt loud like last year model its so much nice and quiter even when you game!
4) the build quality... omg they actually redesigned it from last year like you can feel the quality and the strength of the machine.
now to the problems i had.....
1) keyboard backlit only changed to 100% even when i chose 50%.... i kept trying to fix it but nothing helped. so i updated the bios and boom its working.
2) the right speaker was working but so low literly not hearable... i didnt know how to fix that so i opened up the machine and saw that its stiff for some reason... i blew air in the breathing hole of it and the speaker apparently had glue on it from the inside so it couldnt move freely. but its fine now i got it to work fine.
i could have returned it but i can manage to fix certain things myself.
3) older games like gta iv doesnt recognize the card cause it has 6gb memmory. but i found a way around that. i guess nvidia needs to update drivers asap....
but other than that its a great jump from last year im glad i changed.
gigabyte needs to pay more attention to detail.

This will definitely be my first laptop of choice. By the way, what did you do that caused the CPU to go to 91 °C?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 -
Nice review WhiteBoySHady!
Can you do a specific test on the temperature?
For example, max cpu and gpu temp after a run of 3Dmark11. -
Those CPU temps seem to match the MSI G60 pro CPU temps. At least it's good to hear the fans are not that loud.
Looks really nice. -
WhiteBoySHady Notebook Consultant
Sorry.... To me videos cards and CPUs are like a new car.... You need to get them at 5miles before you can push them and I rather not do any benchmarking like 3d mark at this point. I rather have the card loosen up first
-
chris_laptopfan Notebook Consultant
What do you mean by gpu and cpu being like a new car? How could it do any harm to the hardware to run benchmarks?
On review portals like notebookcheck the tested notebooks are often new devices delivered from onlinestores and they are reviewed with benchmarks, game tests and even the full stress test, which i think is absolutely no problem about, as these devices are built for these demands... Don't know why it should be more or less harmful on benching it after some days of basic usage or out of the box...? Aren't these devices even stress tested by the manufacturer as QA before leaving the production facility...?
What scenario were your HWMonitor screenshot with the CPU up to 91 and GPU up to 83 °C from?
If the gpu could stay below or at maximum mid 80s even under very intensive games like Crysis 3, that would be significantly better than on the GS60/70! Although i would be astonished as it's using the same cpu and gpu in the same thin chassis like the MSIs ...
Hope you are going to make some more benching, photos and maybe even a short video if you don't mind...? Would be very appreciated!
So, glad that you like your new laptop so far and have a nice time with it! -
Thanks for a good review Whiteboyshady! Can anyone tell me if the P35W and P35G have the same chassis? I'm on the fence between this 2 machines. Please help!
-
Yes they do, the only thing that is different is some hardware upgrades.
35G has the 860M.
35W has the 870M. -
-
Should be, I don't think they would make 2 different cooling systems and fan components on basically the same laptop.
-
-
But by right most benchmark doesn't really push the hardware to the limit. 3DMark11 are not as heavy as real gaming like BF4 for example.
If you are referring to stress test like furmark, then yes. It might even break your GPU. So, it is not recommended. -
I would wait for some reviews for the P35 and see how it handles heat and noise.
These thin and lite laptops do tend to run a little hotter than your thicker standard gaming laptops.
