I was almost dead set on the MSI GT72 but now that the P35X v3 has been announced I am seriously thinking about getting it instead. I'll be keeping close eye on this one! -
Edit: Heard in another thread that build may be diferent, semes like it is just build quality that have been updated to the better(hopefully) -
-
I'm tempted with the P35X v3. Very sleek and sexy and light but powerful. 1080p matte too, ftw!
-
Hmmm, $300 upcharge to move from the 970m to the 980m.
I'm gonna wait to see what the actual gaming difference is and how it handles the heat from the 980m.
I can live with the 970m but it would be nice to have the better one.
All on pre-order atm it seems. -
The Americans on this forum will have to tell me how well it handles the heat of the 980M as it's nowhere to be found in the UK yet. I imagine it'll release in the US first, most things do. Go my Guinea pigs, go!
-
Drooling already. I will be buying a P35X V3.....in the near future.
-
Now available from overclockers with an eta of 30-10-14

Also I note Gigabyte are using the 6GB/8GB versions, so really are well future-proofed in terms of GPU memory... and unlike MSI who are using the 3GB/4GBversions.
All in all an absolutely stonking all-round spec, and I think I may well invest in a 980M to last the next 2 years.Cakefish likes this. -

Wow, thin and light form factor (0.8 inches thin) with 980m 8GB version? Color me impressed, and a bit surprised, as it seems Gigabyte is competing with itself as it struggles to raise awareness of the Aorus product line. Both of these would seem to target fans of the Razer Blade.
I was thinking of going with the Aorus X7 Pro; however, unless this was a typo it seems to be using a 3GB VRAM version of the 970m. With recent games calling for 4GB and 6GB VRAM, the P35X v3 might be more future proofed.Cakefish likes this. -

The P35X seems tailor made for my needs, baring any high temps and throttling issues, but I'm determined to wait for the upcoming CPU refresh. Question is, will gaming laptop manufacturers choose to go with Broadwell of wait for Skylake?

They never skipped a generation but this is the first time Intel is releasing two architectures consecutively. Rumors are Broadwell is slated for release in Q1 2015 (assuming their manufacturing issues have been dealt with), with Skylake coming in Q3. Broadwell sounds most likely since some of Skylake's features, like wireless charging, seem geared towards ultrabooks rather than Nvidia powered gaming rigs. Plus, 4th generation chips have been around for a while now and something tells me notebook manufacturers will jump on Broadwell as soon as it's available.

Does the keyboard layout not bother anyone else? I would get this in a heartbeat if it didn't have the massive enter key.

360° demo for your viewing pleasure!
Oh, I want it so badly...
Anyone know if you can purchase a blu-ray module to replace the default DVD drive? The whole point is that it's hot swappable.

Shame they can't come out fast enough so we can get some reviews.
-
That demo shows a normal sized enter key. Are there any resellers in this forum that can confirm what the layout is?

Really looking forward to seeing reviews of the P35X v3 start circulating. If heat dissipation and keyboard flex issues are addressed well enough, I be gettin' one.

And are Gigabyte known for making slight changes in model revisions? That keyboard flex is just about the only thing giving me worry. -
And yes, they do make minor revisions to the chassis between model revisions!
Observe the base panel of the P35K at 15:15 in the video:
Well, here it is in the revised and updated model, the P35W v2 at 6:42:
So, yeah. They have made minor tweaks to the chassis between v1 and v2, so no reason why they won't this time around from v2 to v3!Last edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015 -
Anyone done more research and know what CPU options/if any will be available? I was going to take the plunge and pre-order (for everyone else's benefit of course!) but I only see the 4710HQ CPU and don't know if they will have any more options.
Is it because it is a soldered CPU, and only one option will be available? I ask because I swear I saw some different numbered CPUs when reading about it recently. Something like a 4860? but maybe that was from the V2 version I don't know. -
What's the deal with the backlit keyboard? Why does it cost extra to change the colors? Does that mean it's not adjustable and requires LED changes?

I got some clarification directly from GIGABYTE:
dajohu and moviemarketing like this. -
While I wait, let me address a few points:
1) - Aww yiss. 180W is pretty good. Not super awesome great, but better than 150W in some other laptops
2) - Now that's an interesting point. Not mentioning the keyboard specifically. But I'll assume that something along those lines is what they meant. Either that or the lid.
3) - I bet it's that extra heat pipe from the Aorus Pro series.
Thanks for sending that enquiry off Cakefish! -

That really sounds good.
Cant wait for a review on this. -

i hope they will do strengthen the chassis even more so there's no bent looking at the center of the laptop anymore.
-
If they had the 4860 available for preorder I would order, but it seems they are only 4710 so far.

Does anyone know wheter the 3K screen on the P35X is a matte or a glare screen?
I know for sure the 1080p screen is a matte one
Thanks -

Do you have any links for me? As Overclockers UK's website says it is anti-glare, just like the 1080p screen.
I also sent them a mail, here's what I got back "Thankyou for your webnote, this laptop has an anti-glare finish."
I also sent an email to Gigabyte but I am still awaiting their response
Thanks! -

XOTIC PC | GIGABYTE P35Xv3-CF4 - 15.6" Gaming Laptop - GTX 980M -
- While the P651 is a big step up in terms of chassis design for Clevo I still prefer the design aesthetics of the Gigabyte.
- Hot swappable optical drive in the P35X v3 is a neat feature that the P651 lacks. Now, I hardly ever use the bluray drive on my current Clevo - heck, I've never even bothered to buy a bluray disk! But I still own ancient PC games on DVD drives that are not sold anywhere online digitally (such as No One Lives Forever 1 & 2, Tron 2.0 etc.). If I give up the disk drive, I lose those games forever. Plus, I have Microsoft Office on disk as well as setting backup OS recovery media whenever I set laptops up for the first time. And so, with the P35X v3 I could still use all these things when needed, but for the most of the time, I can have an extra SSD drive inhabiting that bay. It's flexible and I like that!
- Significantly better battery life than the P651. P35X v3 has a 75.81Wh battery vs a 60Wh for the P651. And boy does it show; their review revealed a 121% increase in battery life for the P35W v2 vs the P651 at idle - which I expect to carry over to the P35X v3 as it will still use Optimus and the same display as the model before. Of course, the review model of the P651 may well have been a pre-production sample and final build may fare better, especially after BIOS and driver updates - but the fact remains that P35X v3 will always have the higher capacity battery.
- 8GB vs 4GB VRAM for the 980M. I know this has been a hot topic lately on these forums on whether 4GB will ever hinder this card in next year's games and beyond, but it's always better to be safe rather than sorry! At least then I will be prepared for super deluxe eye-melting textures if any game ever features them (The Witcher 3 perhaps?).
- P35X v3 has a subwoofer while the P651 does not. Now, this may be irrelevant as the review for the P651 concluded that its speakers output had decent levels of bass and were good enough. Likewise, reviews of the P35W v2 noted that there was no distortion at full volume, which is always a major bonus! All I know is that I have not been a fan of my current Clevo's speakers or audio enhancing software, my old Samsung has far, far better sound quality. So obviously, they may well have improved the speakers on this new Clevo model but I'm willing to take a risk and go for the Gigabyte.
- P35X v3 has the GIGABYTE Smart Software, which genuinely looks useful - rather than being generic manufacturer bloatware - example; there are 4 customizable fan modes = stealth, auto low, auto high & max. P651 has just auto & max by comparison.
I do feel the Clevo P651 looks a really nice option. I will really miss having a fingerprint scanner, which the P651 has - it may sound stupid but I use it all the time to log into Windows - going back to a password will feel very archaic! I also really love the fact the P651 has 4x USB 3.0 ports while P35X v3 has 2x 3.0 & 2x 2.0 ports, which feels a bit limited by comparison - but hey, I can live with that (after all, a mouse doesn't need a 3.0 port so that's only really one 3.0 port that is missing that could have been useful). The M.2 standard is also an interesting feature, but I think just getting a standard 2.5" SSD is a better bet than investing too heavily in the smaller drives anyway - I'll get an extra 128GB mSATA in order to enable RAID and then also get a 2.5" Samsung 850 Pro to replace the preconfigured 1TB HDD! Also, the P651 is quite a bit cheaper than the Gigabyte, so that is a major advantage - however, luckily for me, I can afford the P35X v3 anyway, so price isn't a concern
Also:
More Gigabyte info: (good news everyone!)
I asked for more information on exactly how the cooling system has been upgraded on the P35X v3 compared to P35W v2 - is it larger fans, more heatpipes, better quality heatsinks or something else along those lines? Also asked about performing self-upgrades after receiving the laptop in terms of RAM and SSD storage (which requires the removal of the base panel to replace the preconfigured 1TB HDD) and how that would impact the warranty.

Thanks for the info cakefish. I'm deciding between the GS60, P35W and the P650. This helps me narrow it down a bit but still haven't decided.
-
im stuck between a rock and a hard place
want a 15'r thats light and portable.... the 35x soudns good but seems to have temp issues while the clevo/sagers seem to be better... but no reviews...
3k would be nice but wont scale down to 1080p... -
Why don't they make 1440p screens anyway? The galaxy note 4 has one but a gaming laptop doesn't? Easier to see text without scaling up too much, requires less power to drive, and still looks great. But they insist on 3k (which doesn't exist anywhere else) or 4k, which can't be gamed at at decent frame rates and settings. Really annoying...
BTW, when are you supposed to get the laptop cake fish? -
I wish I had known about these laptops coming out when I got my P35W v2 in July, I would have waited and splurged on the P35X
