Hi all,
I have recently been searching for a new laptop, and my research has led me to the Gigabyte P series. Specifically, I've been looking at the P35K V3 (GTX 965M). Interestingly, the only P35K model I have been able to find online (CFG-1) is equipped with an mSATA SSD+HDD combo, which significantly raises the price of the unit: indeed, the P35W V3 (CFG-1) does not have an SSD (HDD only) and is listed at around the same price as the P35K model, despite its superior graphics processor (the GTX 970M).
So, what I'm looking for (in the interest of lowering the overall unit price) is a P35K V3 minus the SSD. I figure that the 7200RPM HDD alone would be fine, and if I ever needed to, I could throw in an SSD myself (perhaps using the existing HDD as extra storage on a caddy in the disk bay). However, I have (as of yet) been unable to find a configuration of the P35K that is equipped in such manner. This is confusing, as Gigabyte offers numerous configuration options on their site for the P35W (HDD only, SSD+HDD, etc), but not the P35K.
Which leads me to my question: does anyone have any info on alternative configurations of the P35K? I realize that many manufacturers release different models in different territories (I'm in the USA), so maybe someone overseas has some info? If it turns out that the only configuration of the P35K is the SSD model, then I may just end up going with the P35W instead (more power, same price), but I'd rather save some money by getting a more bare-bones P35K (plus, I've heard that fan noise/heat is less of an issue with the P35K than it is with the P35W).

The model exists also in germany on mysn.de as the C505. All 3 types (based on the GPU) can be configured there freely (even without SSD or HDD).
Many shops only sell it preconfigured though, which is a shame. A quick search on Xotic PC however shows you can choose "No SSD drive" and "Remove Hard drive" on the P35K, which spares some bucks. -
Thanks for the reply franzerich! Where are you seeing the "No SSD" option on Xotic? I checked there as well, but I was only able to see a "No HDD" option that dropped the price about $60 (not a lot of help though, as I still need an HDD).

You are right, I must have overlooked this... it's ridiculous that they force you to buy one of this, when you don't need it. Especially when you could save 100$ and it's a barebone anyways (so it should be optional!).
Edit: now that is funny, because the P35W is offered with the option "No mSATA SSD drive". I automatically I assumed it was the same case on the P35K - but this option doesn't exist there.
If you really want to buy it you could certainly contact one of the representants of XoticPC, lurking around in the forums. Maybe they can make you a special offer, but I don't have experience with this shop.Last edited: Apr 2, 2015 -
It would be great if barebones like the P35 could be bought really PURE and BARE, and not prepackaged with SSDs, HDDs, Windows 8, TheWitcher3, etc. (which all add to the base price)
