Here's the deal... doesn't matter what you do with audio drivers, etc... the laptop has an audio problem. Not just my laptop, but all P35K's (and maybe other models? I don't know). The problem is this:

When the computer wakes from sleep, the internal speakers will often stop functioning, unless Gigabyte's own software called "SmartManager v3" is running as a background process. Besides having to rely on Gigabyte's software which they don't seem to be updating or supporting, the big issue here is that often when the computer wakes from sleep, this program is no longer running in the background even if it had been before going to sleep, and so you have two options to get sound to work again -- run SmartManager v3 again, or reboot the computer. Having to reboot the computer is obviously a pain, but to be honest, so is having to run SmartManager v3 over and over every day, it's extremely annoying even if it is just a few clicks. I find myself playing songs or showing videos to friends and the first few seconds are constantly "why isn't there any sound? oh yeah....". I could turn off sleep entirely to solve the issue, but I'd prefer to reduce power consumption and maximize the life of my laptop, so I don't want to.

Not to mention the fact that Gigabyte's SmartManger v3 overrides many of Window's own power settings, which is annoying because power options for Windows allow for more control (different brightness profiles for plugged in/on battery, for example), but these settings immediately get overridden every time you run Gigabyte's SmartManager v3 (only two settings for brightness, auto or manual, with no distinction between battery/plugged in).

So when I picked up the laptop and found this problem within a few days, I went back and forth with Gigabyte Support (who were fairly easy to reach, and followed-up on my issue through email). However, once they verified the issue with their own P35K that they had on hand, they told me they were forwarding the issue to "headquarters". Three months later, still no update for smart manager, no bios update, no fix, no nothing. Really disappointing, I love this laptop except for this issue.

1 year later and I still have this issue. Did you get it resolved?
    I have the P35W v2.
