Someone did a quick review, but in Chinese.

What I got from that is that the power supply is in fact 150w (I think he is saying its thin and light) and:
Positive: better backlight on KB
keyboard was upgraded from v2-No keyboard flex
Trackpad has separate left and right click buttons
4-5 hrs battery life on 50% brightness on Wifi
Negative: up to 90C in full load
Easily smudges, lots of fingerprints
Not great speakers
Comes with Power Dvd 10 and a sleeve! Might also have a mouse and mousepad, but that could be from the reseller.
There's some talk about generous metal and mention of plastic that I can't make out. Also temps for overclocking and gaming coming soon.Last edited: Feb 1, 2015 -
I doubt it will add much more useful info but I uploaded a quick video to youtube. Been busy and haven't had time to test much, plus I'm not a video guy so video is pretty bad. For what it is worth...
Haven't noticed any keyboard flex with use. Also heat hasn't been a problem so far for me - still no super taxing games on board though. Fan is loud but not worse than I have experienced with other gaming laptops. In the video the fan sounds like a NASA launch but it really isn't that bad. I'm starting to use it on battery now so will see how long it lasts. Comp runs quiet on battery browsing web in bed. Exterior does smudge. Screen hinges seem solid as does chassis. Mine came with a cheap sleeve. No mouse or pad. PSU came in at 1.5lb on home digital scale (not necessarily accurate but computer came in at 3.9lbs using same technique so that should be close estimate). PSU is next to computer in video and looks huge but I think it is mostly perspective next to small comp. Doesn't seem much bigger or smaller than others I have owned.
Will post a bit more in a day or two when I've had more time to use it. So far I'm happy. I think it is a keeper fwiw.Amal77, vinny3, ChrisCS and 1 other person like this. -
I actually think you did a pretty spectacular job on the video! Absolutely 100% appreciate it.
I'm impressed with the quality. From the reviews i've seen online of the Gigabyte p34 v2, it seems its not just an all black chassis upgrade, but upgraded plastics and metals as well, at least the use of them.
Apploy, you made me and alot of us here very happy...THANKS AGAIN!!!DuX likes this. -
Thanks for the vid!! Finally!
The fan sounded very loud to me.... thought it was some in-game music coming from the speakers.
What do you guys think? -
Just like he said, I don't think its as bad as they sounded in the video. His camera and mic were moving real close and far from the fan vents. Also there could have been some additional background noise.
-
If the camera was at normal 'head' distance from the laptop you could maybe gauge the noise better, camera was close to the side of the laptop so its going to sound noisy.
Good video though, gives people an initial look and feel. -
Hello, I'm the author of the post, happy to see you guys also lurk at less popular forums like hong kong's.
I'm typing with the p34w now, if there's anything you want me to clarify feel free to speak out. I can also make an eng version of that post since it doesn't seem like the original post gained momentum over there. -
Hi, i think we are so eager to see reviews on the notebook we are ready to try and decipher a Chinese review using google translate
An English version of your review would be very useful (at least for me).
I'm also curious about the screen quality and keyboard/trackpad easiness of use/ comfort
Thanks in advance -
Hi everyone, here is my first post on this forum, I hope we will all have a great time together
Thank you @fanchiuho to get motivated to log in ! I have ordered the P34W to for about two months now, and I am lurking to get it. My reseller keeps telling me that Gigabyte is responsible for the delay and your many posts are comfirming it (well in my mind at least).
So @fanchiuho It would be a wonder if you do translate your hongkong forum post in english for us ! Look like you did a great job structuring your review with differents points and added pictures to have a good view
On other point, I would like to know if anyone with the same situation (delayed ETA many times from gigabyte) would like to join me on a grouped polite mailing in order to make them notice the problem, and correct it further, and maybe have some compensation (who knows they might release a 6gb GPU version).
Have a nice Sunday, or Monday depending where you are
-
I have a question, how is the material use? Is it just the armrest which is metal, or is it the whole laptop? I have to say I much prefer metal even with the previous discussion in this thread, because of the feel of it.
-
I am done translating, so I figure that would warrant a new post out there?
Also you might wanna be specific in what pics you want, bottomline I am can dismantle up till the bottom cover.
I would try to add replies to your questions integrally in the post. Please forgive my limited knowledge in screen colors, I do sound better than images lolz.Pixelproof, amonite and TheNightWolf like this. -
Thanks a lot for the translation @fanchiuho , I am looking for it
Yes please do open a new post, I think it is the best option ! You can look at @Cakefish review on the p35X on this forum as he has done an awesome job. And don't forget to share the link in this post.
Once you did it it will be easier for everyone to ad their specifics questions
I will gladly participate in it and will had others info for comparison, as soon as i got mine.
Thank again ! -
Where is the translated version?
Question for @apploy and @fanchiuho
I was looking into the Razer Blade's power adapter as my main power supply, because it weights half as much and is twice as small. Do you think the plugs will work? -
If it's the same as the Aorus, yes. There's a glitch on Razer's site. They are selling them for $100 w/ system purchase but if you add the power supply first then the laptop and remove the laptop it's still $100.

Do you plug the Razor Blades PDU into your Auros? If so, is it a solid connection? Does it stay in nicely?
-
I'm wondering if this laptop has a a similar bend issue as the P35X?

Yes, yes, and yes.

I like those answers! Lol

Just ordered for $100! Thanks @LVNeptune

The new Razer Blade 2015 has been released! It has basically the same specs as the P34w v3, but it's thinner and a bit heavier. It won't come to Europe this time either. What are you're thoughts about it compared to the P34?
-
:-(
-
I'm irritated about that too, the build quality on the Blade beats everything, and it still has a 970m. and that is why I want it more than a lot of other gaming laptops, but I can't buy it since it's not coming to Europe
-
It's crazy, they could tell a bucketload over here!TheNightWolf likes this.

Here's what the P34 has over the Razer: HDMI 2.0, VGA and Ethernet ports. And I guess no 2.5" drives either.
So the Razer doesn't even play in the same league. No need for a second glance. Does the Razer have anything over the P34? -
More stylish? Overpriced too!
Both have their good and bad points, I guess is a matter of taste -
True that VGA has nothing to offer, except maybe as some pointed out if you are in an environment that still use it as the main connection for screens and videoprojector. My old university was like that
.
In the end it is a matter of preference. Coming from a MacBook I do like the new razer blade, but the price tag and limited evolution (especially RAM) makes me prefer the p34w. I believe it would last longer if you can upgrade it. Plus the 2 year worldwide guarantee from gigabyte is not to be overlookedTheNightWolf likes this. -
The Razer only has HDMI, no mini display port or VGA. Though I'd rather have a miniDisplay port
-
Assuming it's going to come to Europe, I think I'm now going to hold out for this (announced yesterday), even if it only has 96xM graphics (which seems likely): http://rog.asus.com/399392015/g-ser...light-15-inch-gaming-laptop-with-4k-pcie-ssd/

VGA is really useful for students and people in business for holding presentations on projectors. In most places, at least in some countries, most projectors only use VGA. (I'm a student in Norway and, and most school projectors here need VGA). It's a lot easier to just have a VGA port instead of fiddling with adapters etc.
-
That's nice. I'd like a 14" version. But holding out by then. You will hear sky lake. Nvidias next gen announced. And seeing radeons hbm graphics being released and then you Prob will want to hold out for that lol

Ninja's with only a few seconds, it looks great, but I would much rather have 14 inches and a better graphics chip.
-
True, though a VGA port on a laptop is fugly as hell IMHO. Also, more and more projectors are starting to use HDMI and/or displayport
-
I agree 14" would be nicer (don't mind losing the numpad either), though this looks like it has a smaller footprint than some recent 15" offerings and I could live with it. Anyway, I can't hold out for ever, want something new by end Q2 latest
-
Yeah, I wish it had a mini displayport too
-
yea my laptops must NOT have a numpad on there. im too use to my hands on the end of the keyboard knowing that the "enter" button is there without looking for it. -
Might be the minority here, but yes, VGA saved my life when I had to use my W110er connected in VGA to a projector for a class I was teaching for one semester ^^
Also right now I am using two screens (sort of) with that laptop, one in HDMI the other in VGA. So yeah, I'm not against it...As a matter of fact, what's so bad about VGA? -
I am also in favor of VGA, but only because at uni we've only VGA projectors. The drawbacks are that, being VGA an analog signal, you cannot just buy an adapter for HDMI/DP. You can buy a special converter from analog to digital but it's not cheap (and not that reliable from what I've heard), being the only other option an adapter to a DVI connection (used only in desktop monitors and older TVs AFAIK), and only if it supports both analog/digital. Besides, VGA does not output audio, and I'm not sure but I think the maximum resolution is very limited.
I guess that for most people VGA is actually a drawback, as it's as "previous gen" as it can get, and clearly the future resides in HDMI and DisplayPort, but as previously stated, the P34w might be the perfect machine for a businessman on the go who also wants gaming capabilities. -
Yup, hence my reference to those 2 user-groups in the OP. Pure gamers always have the option to go for AORUS and the like, they're marketed towards them anyway.
A crappy analogy would be like an Audi versus a Lotus.TheNightWolf likes this. -
Notbookcheck has now made a review of the P34w v3. They like it a lot except for the fan noise and some other smaller things.
Link here: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Gigabyte-P34W-v3-Notebook-Review.135573.0.html
They also tested the battery life, and it isn't really good. Only 4.7 hours while surfing the web isn't really cutting it for me, since I will use it for school, so I have to find another laptop. Razer Blade 14 could be an alternative, but I live in Europe, and it won't come here, so it seems like I have to go with a normal, less-powerfull laptop. -
I think the heat and throttling issues are going to make me consider the bigger brother, the P35W.
-
Evidently, when you repaste with IC7 or Liquid Pro the throttling is a non issue.
