I have had this laptop for a couple of days, it's mostly for work.
My work applications are mostly single threaded so was hoping the 4,3ghz single core boost clock would help with those tasks and i could even do a little overclock to 4,5ghz.

The problem is that it won't turbo boost on a single core. To go into a higher boost clock, the cpu has to put a couple of cores into a C6 state, but that just doesn't happen with this laptop.
Sometimes you can turn that on in the bios but that is not the case either.
I've even tried to do a clean install, but 0% C6 state and the boost clock doesn't go over 4,1ghz. Dit gigabyte disable this without an ability to turn it on? (this also increases the battery life).

I put BITS on a external usb drive and booted from that. To check if C6 state is disabled in windows or the bios.

Requesting the C states, it only returns C0, C2 and C3. No C6. This means Aorus disabled the C6 state in the bios without an option to turn it on again.

This link shows the extra battery life http://www.legitreviews.com/what-en...es-do-on-the-core-i7-4770k-haswell-cpu_2217/3

The C6 is also needed to boost the clock for a single cpu, which doesn't work. With the cpu on stock settings it doesn't go above 4,1ghz while it is supposed to go to 4,3ghz on a single threaded load.

YES you could remap the key through AORUS Fusion (assign different key)

maybe try re-paste the thermal grease to see if it works

    Hi,

This has nothing to do with repasing the thermal grease, it is disabled by the motherboard. I can't enable a feature on a motherboard by putting different thermal paste on it.

Besides, this should help with thermals, as the lower power state cores would use less power.

Aorus Fusion allows you to remap keys and/or map macros to a key. My V7 has a UK keyboard and when set to US international, the keys can be mapped according to the US layout. Not sure whether setting it to the German version, in your case, allows you to remap whilst having the actual, German, layout.

there're two reason for unreachable clock:

    1. Power is not enough
    2. Temperature is too high

from our experience on X5, the power is definitely enough, however the temperature may get high under heavy load
when the time we tried overclocking on X5, the clock speed could keep around 4.1~4.3Ghz if the thermal grease is evenly pasted
The test is conducted under the latest BIOS & EC

P.S. here's the screenshot of CPU SKU

I just updated my system BIOS on the X5 V8 from FB03 to FB04 and my CPU speed is now limiting to 2.8GHz for no discernible reason - it's not power or thermally limited; it just tops out at 2.8GHz even if both minimum and maximum CPU speed is set to 100% in my Windows Power Profile. Intel XTU shows all cores set to 4.3GHz just like before the BIOS update but it won't go above 2.8GHz in actual functioning.

I noticed I can override the limitation with ThrottleStop utility and get full speed, but only with the AC Adapter plugged in. If I unplug, back to 2.8GHz even with ThrottleStop running.
Has anyone else experienced anything else like this? Could this be a messed up effort in the newer BIOS to limit CPU speed while running on battery?

Does anyone have an installer for the FB03 BIOS? I'd really like to try downgrading in hopes that it goes back to normal.

If not, I did create a backup of the original BIOS but it looks like I need help flashing it:
I did use the AFUWINx64 EXE included with the FB04 BIOS installer to dump my FB03 BIOS to a file BEFORE I undated to FB04 (thinking I could use this same utility to undo the upgrade if there was something I didn't like) but it won't flash the dumped file.
    I'm trying to use this command: afuwinx64 stockFB03.rom /p
but I get this output: "18 - Error: Secure Flash Rom Verify fail."

Note: The stockFB03.rom file I dumped is only 8MB whereas the download X5V810.B04 rom file is 16MB. I'm assuming the size difference is because my backup is only the "main BIOS" whereas the download contains additional data, so I'm using the /p switch to "program main BIOS."

AFUWINx64 does appear to support switches to override secure flash policy to capsule, and/or override secure flash policy to recovery. Do I need to use one of these options to flash my backup? That's what I'd like to try next but I hate "experimenting" when it comes to BIOS on laptops because it's so hard or even impossible to recover if you screw something up.

Any help would be appreciated; thanks!

The problem is with the turbo boost itself, the C6 state is disabled by your bios. I can't get 4,3ghz stock, even when the laptop is cold and only 1 thread is used.

Why don't you try to get that 4,3ghz, without overclocking the cpu. It won't happen because you disabled a core feature of the cpu.

The other problem is that i want to overclock it only for running 1 cpu, because the C6 state is disabled, it won't ever do that. I have to set the whole overclock to 4 cpu's.

Usually you have a setting in the bios to turn C6 on, because it can sometimes help with overclocking. But there is no setting for this on the aorus x5.

The gigabyte 15X does have the C6 state enabled

I've had this problem too, i disabled the commander software, because that does weird things with a strange overclock settings. After that i overclocked in throttlestop, but only the multipliers, ive underclocked the voltage slightly and kept the turbo short/long boost power the same.
I've noticed when the boost power is changed, it reverts to 2,8ghz.

The overclock setting of the commander software is really weird, it sets it at 4,3ghz with the gaming preset but that also puts the fan way more aggressive. Then there is the normal preset, but this one clocks the cpu to 2,8ghz with a more silent fan. Both not what i want.

Well here's the thing: This all worked FINE with the FB03 BIOS. I could do up to 4.4GHz OC on all cores without needing to involve ThrottleStop. I could even do 4.7GHz single-core. The CPU did everything it was spec'd to do without issue. I settled on 4.3GHz all-core for thermal reasons, but now I'm limited to 2.8GHz ALL THE TIME.

I've also disabled the Commander software btw and use only Intel XTU for overclocking, but I can find no setting that gets me past 2.8GHz with the new BIOS. If I limit the cores to less than 28x, say 27x, I get 2.7GHz, but anything more than 28x and the multipliers won't go above 28. That CANNOT really be the intended behavior, an i7-8850H that's locked to only 2.8GHz? That's stupid.

I fully intend to find a way to downgrade the BIOS back to FB03, as I had none of these issues before.
Does anyone have a copy of FPTW that's compatible with the HM370 chipset? My research indicates this would allow me to flash the 8MB backup I created before the BIOS upgrade.
Please link or PM me if you have a copy of FPTW that'll work with this machine; thanks!

Wait, you were able to get 4,7ghz ? It might be the bios then.

Have you tried setting the turbo boost power limits and time to the stock setting ? That helped with me when it stuck at 2,8ghz. You could also check the windows power settings, if its at long battery life or if the max cpu speed is less than 100%.

I would also be interested in the older bios!

Yes, I tried setting everything back to 100% stock settings in XTU last night. It made no difference. Also tried both rebooting and cold-starting with all settings stock.
In Windows power settings, max cpu speed is 100%. Normally min cpu speed is 5% but right now I have them both set to 100% for troubleshooting purposes.

I'll gladly share my FB03 Main BIOS backup with anyone who can help me get it flashed!

Is there any aorus service running on startup ? That might be setting the cpu to something. You could try turning off all applications on startup. I don't really know any other reason.

The only Aorus service running is the AorusFusionService for the keyboard. Disabling and rebooting makes no difference. I'm quite sure that it's the BIOS.

This is so frustrating - I have a backup of the BIOS that worked so well but it's not "secure" so I cannot flash it. Every trick I can come up with fails:
FPT for Windows outright fails to run with unexpected error 2.
AFUWinx64 could flash the file but it refuses because the file isn't secure, even when pasted back into the 16MB main capsule of the FB04 downloaded ROM with UEFITool, thereby replacing the FB04 file's BIOS Region section.
There are many mentions online of a /gan switch for AFU that supposedly overrides the security check, but I cannot find a Windows version that supports it. I'm starting to think it was only ever supported on DOS versions of AFU.
The BIOS doesn't allow for CSM mode so I cannot boot a DOS-based flash drive to try DOS-based FPT or AFU.
The BIOS doesn't offer an EFI shell so flashing from there is out too.

I'm sure an original intact copy of the FB03 BIOS would do the trick, as it would be "secure", but I haven't been able to find that anywhere.
There's gotta be a way to do this that doesn't involve pulling the BIOS chip off the damn board to flash it!

    Hello guys.
I accidentally deleted the recovery partition on my Aorus X5 DT v8 laptop. Can someone please make a recovery image partition copy an send it to me? Googled it but couldn't find. Really don't want to send my new laptop to the service centre.
    Many thanks.

Does anyone know where i can get another power supply and an english/international keyboard?
I've asked the seller of the notebook(notebook.de). But they haven't responded in 2 weeks.
For the powersupply, I only have an idea to use a 200w hp power supply (same type number/voltage/current) and convert the tip. But i don't know where to get a converter.

I did the same thing to mine. Swapped the SSD with 970 Evo, but forgot to copy the recovery partition. Use the Aomei Partition Assistant to copy all partitions as they are. Could you send me the copy of recovery partition please? Aorus support team doesn't provide any.

You can always just re-install windows and install the Aorus software from their site and you'll end up at the same exact spot, the only thing you must backup or you'll loose it is the screen calibration profile (they're instructions for that in the forum, you'll just need to backup a single .icc file). I believe Aorus also comes with backup software to create a boot usb, but like others mentioned, you can always clone the drives/partitions to your new drive.
You can also create a full system backup using things like Macrium reflect, Acronis, or the built in windows utility.

I apologize if my question won't help you in your current situation. I had really been looking at this family of laptops. What prompted you to update the BIOS for FB04? Generally speaking, the rule of thumb is to leave the BIOS alone unless something is broken. Are you still under warranty?

Each screen has it's own specific file that was generated at the factory when they calibrated the screen, so having someone else's file is not of much help. That's why this is the only thing that you MUST backup or you'll loose it 'forever' (obviously you could generate a new one with a screen calibration tool like Spyder or X-rite, but most people don't have one of those).
The color profile files are located at C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color

Looking at potentially replacing my AW17 and AW13 with one of these due to CPU limitations, but i have some concerns.

How's the structural rigidity? Amazon reviews of previous Aorus X laptops have notions of screen bezels peeling up and/or swollen batteries under a year, if the first few people who posted here are still around, how's your laptops holding up? And if you've had the misfortune of a unit failure, how is the warranty service? I'd go for a Blade but i'm beyond sketched out by the apparent failure rates and bad service horror stories.

How's the software support? Alienware BIOS updates are all over the place and Dell SupportAssist loves to shove them down your throat if you allow it.

How does overclocking on the 8850H work? Is it unlocked multipliers like previous -HK CPUs where i can ensure a consistent 4GHz on all cores, or underclock them all if i need to? Or is it just a gentle suggestion to the CPU that "hey, maybe you can boost higher on one core maybe sorta please?"

Has anyone ordered it from HIDevolution or GenTechPC? Their LM services seem really tempting but i'd be a little concerned about it if it isnt something they include in warranty incase of damage from being shipped/taken about.

Have had no issues regarding rigidity, bezels, and/or swollen battery.
Software support has been surprisingly ok since the included update manager does a good job of making the process easy so you don't have to hunt for updates from their site.
I have the 7820HK so can't comment much on 8850H
I've ordered from GenTechPC before (not this laptop but a previous one) and it was overall very positive experience. Although I haven't used HIDevolution, I've seen nothing but positive things about them on these forums so I wouldn't hesitate from ordering from them either.

This seems wrong unless aorus is keeping a DB on their end that has a copy of every icc and a map to what laptop it belongs to which then gets leveraged by Command & Control to apply it on install, but I seriously doubt that that is the case. This was not the case when I installed a clean version of windows (dual boot); I had to copy over the icc file from the first install, as expected, for it to work.

    Hi x5v8 owners,
A slightly different topic if I may?
I've recently bought my 2nd aorus from OCUK, an x5v8 and overall, I'm pretty impressed with it. I wanted something lighter for travelling the world and this certainly is!!
I was wondering if some of you super tech people could advise me on something to do with the BIOS settings? I'm wanting to 'Delete' the 'Secure Boot' facility so I am able to dual boot with Win7 Pro and Win10 Pro. I have read on a view threads elsewhere on the net, there is a possibility of screwing up the BIOS totally if I do this. Have any of you come across this with the Aorus machines, and is it as drastic as some make out if I do delete the Secure Boot?
    Thank you in Advance
    Nigel

recently just replaced my stock 2x8gb 2666mhz ram with vengeance 2x16gb 2666mhz.

upon gaming i noticed that the 2nd slot of the ram, runs pretty darn hot. i mean as hot as almost 100 degre celcius. is this normal?

i swapped the ram to check whether the ram is the trouble, apparently it is the slot that keeps getting hot.

also any one used liquid metal paste on their x5v8?

My X5 V8, can only last about 2hrs and I've tried everything, to the point of always being on power saver mode (windows battery saver also on) anytime I'm not charging. The Laptop is supposed to last about 3-4hrs right?

while performing the factory calibration. all .icc file will be kept on cloud and Driver Update will automatically pull the .icc file based on the UUID of your laptop silently

cuz it features discrete GPU output structure so it means the GPU's always alive which consumes more power than typical Optimus/MS Hybrid model. However if you really want to make the battery life longer, dim the display is the most efficient way

    @ g85222456

Is there a HID equivalent based in Europe which allows me to customize the Aorus?
I would really like to order the X5V8 without the internal HDD (so only the SSD remains) and a better network card (e.g. the 1550).

Apart from that, I do not accept panels with noticable backlight bleeding, hence some kind of pre-screening would be amazing! :)

My Aorus X5 V8 recently just tripped off (probably from overheating) this is the first time it's ever done this and now it isn't coming on when I press the power button. What can I do?

Edit: How can I perform a hard reset on the laptop

Maybe the problem lies with your SSD. Mine suddenly restarted two different times, and one day suddenly, it booted up and refuses to display my drive and I was experiencing boot loop and I couldn't get past the Gigabyte logo.

I've sent my laptop to service center and got my SSD replaced and its been a couple of weeks and touch wood, everthing's working as expected.

If you're in the UK, maybe you should contact MendIt support (instead of Gigabyte) and get it resolved

If you're using FB08 BIOS, I believe you must be running an older version of the laptop. I just checked the official driver download site for the X5 V8 and they're still showing FB04 as the most recent BIOS for the laptop.

As to why I upgraded from FB03 to FB04 way back then, I'd have to assume I tried it out because it was there to try. The laptop was still new at the time so if something were to have gone irreparably wrong I would have been able to make a warranty claim whereas if I decided to play with the BIOS and killed it now it would probably be too late, so I imagine my logic was something like "you know you're going to break down and try this eventually, so we might as well do it now when the machine is still new." I recall the same logic when I decided to flash the VBIOS of my Asus GL702ZC laptop's onboard RX580 GPU (which was a big success btw!)

I feel like crawling under a rock now. I didn't realise that this was a Aorus Thread. I assumed it was Aero Thread. I was talking about Aero here.

    Sorry for the confusion.
