    Hey all,

So I recently bought an Aero 15x for a huge chunk of change (against my better judgement). While it looks absolutely beautiful, its performance leaves something to be desired.. It's had a few issues since I've owned it.

Firstly, the general slowness. It will temporarily freeze when moving the cursor (once in a while). It also takes a long time (~15 seconds or so) just to open up the file explorer.

Secondly, the base gets warm when doing simple non-intensive tasks. These can be things like editing an image in Microsoft paint, or just browsing the net with no more than 1-5 tabs open.

Third, it has a GTX1070 max-q graphics card, which should be great for gaming. However, when running a game such as Guild Wars 2 (Not very graphically intense) I get from 11-15 fps at the maximum graphics setting. This is completely flabbergasting to me, and leads me to believe that there may be an issue with my laptop in particular. For reference, I can run Guild Wars 2 on my desktop (GTX 970), and get a consistent 90 - 120 fps.

Has anyone experienced any similar issues, and found a solution? To me these issues are both unjustifiable and unacceptable given the price of the laptop (paid $3000 AUD for it)

Some of the issues might be related to the optimus bug, such as the slight cursor freeze. Opening up file explorer shouldn't take 15 seconds though, even taking into count the slight microstutter from optimus.
Other laptops with optimus are also affected by this optimus bug, and before Gigabyte would implement a software to keep the Nvidia GPU active but on idle, using emptyproject11.exe, but it would consume a little more battery. Since I don't have that system, you can check with users at the owner's lounge for help with troubleshooting.

or the 15 one, which is more active.

As far as the low FPS, certainly not normal for 1070MQ, so it seems it might be running off integrated graphics instead of the dGPU. You can try going into the Nvidia Control Panel, Manage 3d settings, program settings, select the game and force it to use the 1070MQ.....see if that works.

    Hey Vistar,

Thanks for your response. I will make sure to post in at least one of those threads. Regarding the low FPS, it seems that it is in fact using the dGPU (I double checked by following your instructions); I just cannot explain the poor fps. This game is from 2012 running a very old engine, so by no means is it graphically intensive. As a reference, the 1070 has approximately 40x the amount of VRAM necessary to run the game. So I am really at a loss here

Indeed the 1070MQ can run any game at 1080p at high settings and 60fps.
