    Hi guys,

I can't seem to find any recent posts this year on the P25X v2. It's Gigabyte's top model housing a GTX880m in a slimmer and lighter chassis than any other high end gaming/entertainment laptops.

    link:
    GIGABYTE - Notebook & Netbook - Notebook & Netbook - P series - P25X v2

At least in Australia it is due in early June.

Is there a reason why there hasn't been much anticipation for this? It seems like a much more attractive package (size, weight, cost) than other more expensive laptops like MSI, Alienware etc...

    Cheers

I'm also really looking forward to this. Been trying to order a Blade for the last week and MS has been such a pain to deal with that I'm seriously considering other options. If the battery life on the p25x v2 is good, I'm sold.

Oh good, I'm not the only person in the world interested inthe p25x v2. I was also going to order the Razer but I've heard it overheats really bad. I think it's expected when you pack so much firepower into such a slim form. I'm really worried about the long term quality of the Razer. People generally only get it to play games on the go, but if it overheats within 20 min of a game like BF4...I'm not sure if it's really worth all that money.

Yeah I'm hoping we will hear some information soon, thermal wise. Also, I wonder how loud this machine is going to be... I'm a bit worried how well this laptop will keep up with the 880m.

According to its brother model here, there should be a black version. The general look of the chassis isn't my style though. It looks kind of cheap, with large of bulky lookalike plastic areas (hinges, fan vents). On the other hand this version or the linked one with the 870m but without borderline temps and throttling, would definitely worth a consideration.
But the yellow design is absolutely ugly in my opinion. :D Just don't know what the hell the designers intended with this idea.
Kind of sad, as they have nice and elegant looking laptops like mainly P34G v2 and also acceptable nice looking ones like the P35s...

    Hi guys,

Seems that cooling system is almost the same like it was in the last year model p25w (with GTX770m) but p25x v2 (with GTX880m) has quite higher TDP level (around 40% more). p25w was not that noisy. I am wondering about the noise level of p25x v2.

About the color, I personally like the yellow one, but as I saw somewhere the gray color is also planned.

Following the example of the earlier P25w (which I have), it will likely be released with yellow AND black lid covers, but the black lid will be of low availability at first. I bought a black P25w from Newegg.

Cooling in my P25w was fine at first, nothing over 80c. Lately, however, the CPU has gotten worse and maxed over 90c a few times. I believe this is caused by both dust buildup and the typical poor thermal paste application by the manufacturer. I'm looking to replace the thermal paste on my own before too long. The GPU temps have remained stable.

    Any news about the laptop?

I wonder if anybody already own p25x v2. I am looking for information about noise level and possible overheat problem.

Also I heard that Gigabyte will show it on Computex 2014 .

I've had a P35G v2 for a couple months and love it but thinking about selling to get one of the P25X machines ... don't think many folks even have the 25X in stock yet. NewEgg seems to have it but not many others...

Desperate for it but the UK resellers are selling stupidly more expensively compared to Newegg etc. $1700 - £1600 :/

I bought the 1699 version on Newegg. It was actually $1749.99 at the time w/ a promo code, and I thought that was a steal. Specs, form factor, and price were what sold me on this. There's not many other notebooks out there that are going to outperform this by a sizable margin, and the few that do will probably cost $2500+. As far as machines with 880m's in them, 6.39lbs or whatever this is listed as weighing is the lightest I've seen. ASUS/MSI 880M units run anywhere from 8-10lbs on average, so it's a huge difference. It's also about 1.5 inches thick(not including the little stand on the battery that lifts this off the ground for better airflow). ASUS/MSI equivalents run about 1.75-2 inches thick. Also, this comes with an 8 cell battery when many similar machines only have a 6 cell. Battery life isn't incredible, as that is rarely the case on gaming laptops, but it is rather impressive considering the specs of the machine. 4-5 hours normal(videos/web-surfing/productivity software etc) use on a "balanced" or "power-saving" mode. Maybe 2 hours playing a game, if that.

It's not thin and pretty or as light as a razer blade or aorus (gigabyte's premium brand) or MSI ghost series, but it's about as portable as you're gonna get for something with an 880m in it. Plus, you pay a premium for those models, and the thin laptops with 870m's in them tend to have heating problems, whether you want to admit it or not.

Keep in mind the cheaper Newegg model seems to be unique to Newegg and is missing certain hardware that are standard in most other p25x models, which is probably why you're seeing it more expensive in the UK. Only one msata SSD, most other p25x models have 2. Only 8GB of ram instead of 16, and a DVD drive instead of a bluray. I can live without those things, and paying about 500 USD less is a more than fair trade-off.

As far as throttling. I'm not exactly sure what you mean. Throttling while on battery power? It is set to automatically switch to the Intel GPU at around 50% battery life, but you can change those settings if you want. If you meant throttling because of overheating, I haven't seen that yet. The notebook does have multiple intakes on the bottom, and large dual exhausts(one for both cpu and gpu). That's a much better cooling system than what you're going to find in a light/thin msi ghost/razer blade etc. I don't overclock because I've read a lot about the permanent driver-based down-throttle that 880Ms do after crashing from overclocking, plus I currently have no need. Maybe in a few years when I'm trying to squeeze out a little more time before upgrading again.

I do have a history of playing graphically intense games, but currently, the games I've been playing the most aren't what I would consider to be the most graphically intense. I do play everything at max though. Dark souls 2, TF2, CS:GO, LoL. Dark souls 2 seems to be the most taxing, the speaker bar across the top of the keyboard does get pretty hot after a session longer than 30 minutes. I do monitor the temps, the highest CPU temp I've read is 79, the highest GPU temp I've seen was 83. Both were after long sessions of Dark souls 2. I use a cooling pad that I've had for years that probably isn't very effective, and I run the notebook's fans at Auto-mode. There is a max mode, that is very audible if you're in a quiet room using just on-board speakers. The max mode is not noticeable if you have the notebook hooked up to good speakers or are using headphones. I would say these temps are not exactly ideal, but still in the "safe-zone". I do plan on buying a better cooling pad in the future.

There are things I don't like about the unit. The surface around the keyboard seems to be brushed aluminum, or something similar, which is nice. But the rest of the laptop is mostly plastic. So parts of the laptop give off a premium feel, and other parts feel cheap and plasticy at the same time. It's a clash, to say the least. There's only 2 USB ports. I can live with 3, 2 can be annoying sometimes, like when I have my notebook hooked up to the tv, gaming with a wireless keyboard and mouse from the couch and I want to plug in the cooling pad, mouse, and keyboard. I currently use a hub, but that shouldn't be a necessity. All the ports are on the right side of the laptop. So, if I'm using a mouse there's usually wires sticking out in the area where I would want my mouse pad to be. The trackpad isn't multi-touch. I've always had a computer or notebook hooked up to my TV, and I use a logitech wireless keyboard w/ multi-touch track pad built in. I've grown to really like it, and going back to an "old-school" track pad just plain sucks. The speakers suck. We all used to expect that in the past, but nowadays there are notebooks that actually have great on-board sound. Not the case with the p25x. And Gigabyte actually advertises it as having 5 speakers and a subwoofer and "immersive" sound. Yeah, OK. And finally, the yellow lid. Some people like a flashy unit, and that's fine. I don't. This notebook is exactly one black lid away from appearing to be a nondescript, nothing fancy, run-of-the-mill notebook and I would have much preferred that.

Overall, love the thing. Hope this helps some of you.

I just got it, and not really a fan. I'm probably going to return it for something else.

It feels very, very cheap too. The plastic feels very flimsy. The yellow lid is also prone to black scratches, since it's just painted on.

The speakers are way worse than I expected. It is not an exaggeration when people said that smartphones have better sound quality.

The screen quality isn't great, either.

However, it's definitely WAY lighter than I expected. If portability is your primary motive for getting this 880M housing unit, you won't be disappointed.
