Any other performance changes or features with the update you've found?

Although a drop in temp and quieter fans is always a plus!

I've 1223 in Cinebench R15 after some tweaking (undervolt CPU).

Davinci resolve runs pretty fast. Actually, handily beats my 6700K desktop (non OCed).

Just got this laptop a couple days ago. A bit of a fiddly one to setup, but runs well since.

Hey, are you happy with it? I wonder if it's worth buying with all the issues it's got?

    How's your keyboard?

No cause for concern with that temp.

Its a nice piece of kit, I'm liking it more and more. I'm a game dev programmer, so I use gaming desktop(s) all the time. Bought this for on the go video editing really. I came to like the keyboard in the last week or so, which has nice a positive(clicky) feel with decent travel. I find myself actually typing faster on this than on my daily Dell slim(s) desktop keyboards.

The 1080p screen is really nice, and the color fidelity is growing on me, continually impresses. Watching Youtube videos in 8K / 60fps either on the laptop's screen or on my 4K OLED is really breathtaking.

Since I got the non X model, I've added a samsung 970EVO as system drive alongside the venerable Crucial mx300 serias SATA 512GB M2 SSD it shipped with. I'm going to Liquid Metal (Condutonaut) it today for continued better thermal performance. As a note, thermals have not yet been an issue, but I'd like it to be the best possible for long term use.
Taking this apart is not easy, the latches are pretty tight (after the 13 screws), and I was afraid braking the bottom lid. After being a bit more forceful, it popped open just fine.

Agreed. SupNguyen, 45-50 is a pretty normal idle temp. I was marveling at the difference when talking to a friend I was watching stream a game. He had stats on screen and the CPU was running under medium load at 35-40C. I'm perfectly delighted to see laptop temps on this chip stay under 80C and don't blink an eye unless it climbs above 90C for a good length of time. It's just the nature of the thin-and-light beast that laptops run closer to the edge of the thermal shutdown abyss (and it was 100C temps *frequently* that were causing my XPS to shutdown and why I returned the laptop).

i have little problem that i didnt know what is wrong
i was apply liquid Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut but my temp is still same as Grizzly Thermal Kryonaut
    first

i clean up very well per instruction online
then apply liquid thermal ( was perfect, tape around cpu for protect)
run test and temp is same, 45 idle and 55~65 when doing small work ( list below), and 90~ for gaming

    with Grizzly Thermal Kryonaut
my temp test is samething as liquid

the liquid didnt work as it should be like website or youtube review .
anyone here is have same problem before?

my temp cpu is always around 55~65 for now when i doing my work
    excel
    vmware
    web browing (5~10 tab everytime)
    note

about the GPU is alwys idle at 50c, and gaming max 75 80 is perfect no complain...
just the cpu is too hot.
when working i cant touch on bottom, almost burn my gf hand when i playing with her by let she touch the bottom of laptop:))))

There are several reasons for this. Liquid metal only gives you a proper gain if your heatsink can dissapate enough heat, which in thin and light notebooks is simply not the case (even on higher end notebook this is the case). Also the Fan profiles also play a key role in this, lets assume you have stock paste, the CPU will lets say run at idle with a fanspeed of 30% @ 50c, while repasted with high quality thermal paste it will still run at 50c, but the fanspeed will be at 0%.

    the fan is still running
but i think you right about new cpu and design of laptop.
it run as it should be. it really fast ... best laptop for what i need on my work.
HOPE 1 day laptop will come as liquid cooling like desktop ... quiet and quiet , my desktop never go above 50c even on gaming with liquid cooling... cant hear fan even on max run .
