Hey guys, I've searched the forum here, but I can't find anything about this. Does anyone have the V5 Skylake w/ 980M? I'm very close to pulling the trigger, but it's a bit concerning that I can't find anything else about it.

    -Build quality good?
    -Hinges sturdy?
    -1080P Screen good quality?
-Heat dissipation good w/ the Supra Cooling?

Also, has anyone purchased from Excaliber PC? Good experience with them? It's tough to find any real feedback on them, but they seem pretty legit.

    Thanks guys.

I'm mainly looking at the 980M. I had one with my Alienware, but it was too bulky for travel use. The 980M and Skylake processor is the main draw.

I've owned MSI's before as well, which were excellent. I owned the Ghost Pro w/ 970M which was great, but I was tempted by the Alienware's 980M, got a great deal, so I sold the MSI, grabbed the Alienware. Now I'm just looking at picking up the 980M so I can be good for the next year or two with the Skylake (should help temps and battery life).

I went ahead and bit on one. I'll have to throw a msata ssd in it when it comes.

    Skylake i7 6700
    980m 8gb
    16gb 2133 DDR4
    1080p ips screen
    $1799 shipped

Now let's hope it arrives fairly quick and without issue.

Nice, would be great to hear how it handles the 980M and new Skylake CPU, mostly temps and if it throttles under load.
Screen brightness and quality of the screen would be great too.
I was looking at one as well but worried it would sound like a leaf blower trying to keep all the hardware cool.
    Good luck and thanks.

I'll post my findings on it no doubt. Hopefully it'll be here this week. I'm not sure how long FedEx will take.

Just bought a 512gb Samsung Evo 950 pro m.2 nvme hard drive to throw in it. It should scream after I get it all together and OS reinstalled.

Please put the system under stress and tell us temperature and noise levels are. Try under volting the 6700hq too!

I'm not too familiar with underclocking, etc. My laptop might be here tomorrow. We're expecting a foot of snow, so FedEx may not be able to get it here. My Ssd is here though, ready and waiting.

Please comment on the keyboard and trackpad and weight. I was leaning towards this computer till I read some bad opinions on the keyboard and trackpad. On paper, this computer looks killer, but I need it to be perfect since the build I'm looking at is close to $3k. I'm trying to decide between this computer and the Skylake Alienware 15. The AW 15 have 4K screens with 100% AdobeRGB so I am really tempted.

Congratulations ! I was looking for this kind of setup last year but was still unavailable during that time. although I must say that I don't have any regrets with the setup that I have. the only difference is that mine is using a Broadwell CPU and DDR3 Ram. I would say this personally that the biggest advantage of Skylake is in the battery longevity or power efficiency department. although the overall performance is not really significant enough to warrant the extra cost or investment to it as of the moment against a Haswell or a Broadwell for that matter. in theory, Skylake should be better but so far does not live up to the hype. it could be that it is all marketing or just in it's early iteration of the cpu itself as to why it is not yet fully optimized to what it could do and it is the same with the DDR4 ram. I doubt that a DDR4 ram would be much better than say a HyperX Impact or a Vengeance DDR3 memory as of the moment. as far as heat, power, noise is concerned - the GPU is the culprit. the newer CPUs such as the Broadwell and Skylake runs cooler and so far has no throttling issues.

Agree completely. Skylake, the power and battery savings were my main interests. I don't think my laptop is coming today, due to the weather unfortunately. When it does get here, I plan on putting it through its paces.

goodluck. just don't be surprised if the laptop runs like a friggin jetliner when gaming. I was surprised initially, but then with such gpu power in such a small laptop, this is to be expected. I just wished that the build was a bit thicker or spaced-out as to dissipate the heat as that what worries me a lot. I have to stop gaming atleast every 2 hour interval just to be on the safeside, although my unit has 4 year extended warranty on it for extra protection. also Windows 10 is just horrible.

Well, we have 2' of snow on the ground unfortunately. FedEx has delayed me until Monday.
