I'm also very interested in this laptop. I put together a list of all the things I'd like on a laptop and put them in order, and I think this one hits the most boxes.

My two main issues are a) the price is a bit higher than I'd like to pay, and b) WHY IS THE BEZEL AROUND THE SCREEN SO FREAKING WIDE?!?! It makes the laptop look like something from 1995.

That is exactly what bothers me on this laptop as well. :D This and the hinges.
The bezel on the MSI GS60 is a little too wide to me, but the P35... holy sh*t! :D It just looks quite inelegant and clumsy to me... :(
Don't know why they don't just make a P35 with the P34g's design... It's much more elegant.

The overall footprint of the laptop is larger than your typical 15". That's how they managed to cram everything into it and keep it thin. It's about an inch deeper than my 15" SONY.

However, one must appreciate all the connectivity options and swappable bay.

Hinges appear to be fine and overall construction is very solid, IMO.

The wire that leads to battery check button is lose, be careful when re-assembling not to damage it. HD/SSD bracket feels flimsy and weird but actually works fine when screwed-in and saves on weight.
MSATA connectors are just that, there is no USB signalling there. I tried simple straight USB mini PCI-E card and it did not work.

I wish power brick was smaller. It's 2014, after all.

Question for any P35G V2 owners regarding setting up RAID 0 on the mSATA slots ...

My P35G V2 is arriving this thursday and for the initial build, I've gone with a single 512gb SSD in one of the mSATA slots.

In a couple weeks, I'm going to get a second 512gb mSATA so as to run them both in RAID 0. Since my system is arriving from GenTech already built and with Win 7 installed ... I was wondering ... is the setting up of the RAID process dynamic in that I can add the second mSATA drive and then build the array with my current Win 7 install and all other data automatically being reconstructed in the array or will I have to build the array and then re install everything?

I'm thinking the array build process will simply incorporate the existing data from my single drive in to the new RAID 0 array but not sure...

I have a 1 TB mechanical installed as well for back up ...

    Thanks for any information ...

RAID 0 is striping, not mirroring, so no incorporating of existing data is going to happen.
My P35G came with SATA adapter set to AHCI mode. If yours does too (most likely), switching it to RAID will cause Windows 7 fail to boot.
But there is GIGABYTE SATA mode switching tool (just Google it) that might help. I've never used it myself though.
    The sequence would then be:
    - install the tool, run it, switch to RAID
    - reboot, go to BIOS, change AHCI to RAID
    - boot to Windows 7, verify that adapter is in RAID mode
    - shutdown, install additional SSD
    - boot, hit Ctrl-I when RAID BIOS is loading, configure RAID array
    - reboot to Windows, let it do its thing detecting disk changes.

An alternative is software RAID array: windows support RAID in disk management both mirror and stripe (dynamic disks).

Just received my P35G V2 last night. I do wish replacing the HDD can be faster (just like how upgrading RAM can be done quickly because of how compartmentalized it is) though since I remember it only taking like five minutes to do it on my PS4. I'll give my impressions soon though I will say that I'm not a fan of how huge the bezel is along with the hinges. They feel like something with the 90s. I also have to get use to the keyboard since the key presses don't have a depth like my current MSI 1651.

Had my P35G V2 for most of the day ... 500gb Crucial M550 system drive and a 1TB mechanical.

I would prefer a thinner bezel as others have said but it's really not bothersome at all in a functional regard (just my inner aesthetic critic would prefer thin). That said, the screen is gorgeous. Seriously nice pop and typical IPS depth. Just really nice. My particular screen has a tiny bit of bleed in the upper left but nothing too bad regarding BLB ... totally a non issue.

I had Windows 7 installed by GenTech and things are snapping right along very nicely on the 500gb SSD drive; I'm waiting for a second 500gb SSD drive to ship and will RAID 0 the two SSD's some time this week ... and generally use the 1 TB mechanical for system imaging/backup.

I ran FurTech 1080p 15 minute benchmark in a 22C ambient room and the 860M card topped out at 80C. Not bad. I did have GenTech apply the free IC Diamond compound so not sure if that is making a difference or not. But not unhappy with that max temp ... especially considering it was during a Furmark run.

The fan noise during the Furmark test was not too horrible ... definitely ramps up but it's not an ugly sound of fan noise as some can be (or overtly fatiguing in a sonic regard) ... I thought it would be louder, personally. The system on AUTO fan seemed to do a really good job of managing fan speeds as well ... ramping up as needed and quickly ramping down when exiting the game/benchmark. I will always wear noise canceling headphones when playing on the go, though and so no big deal. The laptop is strictly for mobile use as I have a SLI GTX670 desktop machine and so headphones will always be used.

Overall ... I totally love the design of the thing (fat bezel not withstanding). It's spartan, business like and really minimalist (which pleases me with anything industrial). The keyboard back lighting is solid and overall, the connectivity options (especially the optical drive) are incredible for such a thin, light weight machine. I'm totally stoked with it.

Everything I play (Hawken, Metro: Last Light, Skyrim, Deux Ex: Human Revolution, CS:GO, etc.) plays perfectly ... most on high settings (not Ultra) and Last Light on "Normal" ... by "perfectly" I mean 60 to 90 FPS with VSYNC turned off ... I know some folk say 30FPS is a good benchmark but that just feels to slow for me and so I always adjust settings to get 60+ ...

    Anyway ...

    Super dope rig.

Hope it holds up over time..

    ;-)

    Oh yeah ... BTW ...

The Case Logic neoprene notebook sleeve fits the P35 like a glove, perfect:

And if looking for a good bag as well, the Slappa Kiken 18-Inch is a perfect match as well (nevermind the smaller Slappa, oddly, the 18" is a perfect fit for this laptop and especially when in a sleeve:

What are your temperatures on idle/browsing?

Mine has about 56C for cores and 60C on PCH (the latter causes fan periodically kick in on auto). That appears too high IMO. ASUS 750 with 4700HQ on idle has 43C for cores and 55C on PCH. I know, ASUS has larger body and better natural airflow. Still... This is all on a flat glass surface, nothing obstructing airflow. The area around cooling assembly (center back) of P35G gets really hot.

My temps are about the same as yours on the CPU and at idle ... I'm okay with this, personally.

I had a Sony VPCCB "Signature" notebook for 2.5 years before getting this and it idled at about the same, actually a bit hotter (it's a non gaming notebook) ... never had any issues because of it. My desktop machine, which is water cooled, idles at around 35C in the very same ambient temps as the P35 laptop ... freakish the temp difference. The fan kicks up a bit here and there but it doesn't bother me as there's generally ambient noise enough that I really never hear it unless I game...

I'm a perpetual tinkerer, though and so I'll probably try various thermal compounds and re seating the heatsinks some time in the future ... for now, things are fine.

Played about an hour of Hawken on High graphic settings earlier and the GPU never went above 76C ... that's pretty good as far as I'm concerned and considering how thin this thing is.

I am moving to P35G from Sony SVS15. I tried ASUS in the meantime. I decided that I could go a bit heavier than Sony but not as heavy as ASUS. Definitely need 16GB of RAM (Sony goes up to 12GB only) to run SharePoint server in Hyper-V VM) and as much disk space as I could cram into it. I got P35G for development mostly but also for some 3D modeling and a bit of gaming. So I don't mind underclocking/volting graphics if it helps with temperatures. Will try MSI Afterburner probably.

I was playing with EVGA PrecisionX for a bit but it was loading some weird background .EXE called "EVGAvoltagetuner.exe" which would stay resident and continuously use about 25% CPU cycles ... was keeping idle temps up in the 60's .. did some searching about and lots of other notebook users were having the same issue so I installed it ...

I use my P35 predominately for work as well (video edit/render and audio work) so not too keen on overclocking ... the gains would be minimal at best anyway on a mobile platform.

Does anybody know if the 860M in the P35G can at some point be user upgraded to a 870M or 880M?

I'm new to this whole gaming notebook thing so pardon if that's a stupid question. I'm kind of wishing I'd gotten the P35W now since seeing some bench comparisons between the 860 and 870 cards ...

Just not sure if these graphics "cards" can be swapped or not ... and where one would go about finding one for sale ...

    thanks

Unless I am gaming, in which case it goes to 125W, it consumes only 61W and I am running it off a small portable 95W power adapter (using ASUS connector tip). Very handy.

Has anybody else upgraded to the latest Realtek Audio drivers/suite available from Gigabyte's website? This new version is 6.0.1.7209 ...

I upgraded to this and everything installed fine and sounds play fine, but the Realtek Audio Manager interface, accessible from the tray icon, seems to have lost some of the previous drivers functionality ...

Namely, I can no longer find the "sound effects" and otherwise "EQ" settings which used to be available as one of the main tabs (grouped with the "Speakers, Digital Output, Microphone" tabs) ... can't find the EQ/effects settings anywhere now ...

Also, the previous driver (that shipped with my P35G) had a "headphone virtualization" check box (think that's what it was called) on the main interface as well which added some pseudo surround effects when listening through headphones)...

Just wondering if anyone else upgraded to that latest Realtek driver and if you saw similar changes ...

Think I'm going to re install the driver on the Gigabyte CD and see if that changes things back to how they were ...

    ...

    Otherwise ...

Installed a second Crucial M550 512gb SSD yesterday and made a 1TB RAID 0 array for the system ...

    The throughput is ludicrous:

    ...

    -------------------------------
    CrystalDiskMark 2.2
    -------------------------------
    Sequential Read : 949.954 MB/s
    Sequential Write : 914.656 MB/s
    Random Read 512KB : 854.628 MB/s
    Random Write 512KB : 855.518 MB/s
    Random Read 4KB : 32.773 MB/s
    Random Write 4KB : 119.822 MB/s
    Test Size : 100 MB
    Date : 2014/06/11 6:22:25
    *
    :)

    ** EDIT **

Removed the above referenced 7209 Realtek Drivers and re installed the earlier version included on the Gigabyte driver CD ...

The "Headphone Virtualization" setting is back and also the "Effects" and EQ settings tab has returned ... not sure what's up with the 7209 driver removing those things ... the Headphone Virtualization works really good for games ...

    FYI ...

Sub-woofer is attached to the back cover, hence it is not in the picture. The small white connector to the right of the lower RAM module is connector for the sub-woofer.

    hi all,

I bought the P35 v2 as well yesterday in SG so just to share briefly my experience.

    Likes
    - Really good screen
    - Large trackpad ( not glass smooth as Macs but good enough)
    - Plenty of storage options
    - Easy update utility

    Dislikes
    - VERY LARGE charger ( unfortunately my universal charger doesn't seem to have the right pin for it)
    - Battery 3 hrs max at 50% usage with medium usage (non-gaming)
    - Keyboard layout... num pad wastes precious space. Prefer full size keyboard instead.
    - Graphics Speed - not as fast as i thought. At 1080p,
    - Bioshock High 45 fps
    - Sleeping Dogs High 60fps
    - Thief High 27fps !!!
    - Diablo 3 10 fps ?!! (apparently some driver issue causing Integrated Graphics to be used)

Heat very well managed. Didn't come across burning areas. The fan even at Max is softer than my old MacBook Pro. No issue at all.

Hey, So im looking at getting this laptop now that its in Aus.
The model thats here currently is the dual 128 SSD. Just wanted to check, does this then also still allow for a 1tb HD to be put instead of the ODD?
And how "Hot Swappable" is that setup? Once installed does the HD have to stay in the laptop?
Last thing, If i was to get the 1 SSD model, would i then be able to install a 1tb HD along side it? or better off getting the HD then putting in a SSD?
    Thanks.

I have a question for the p35 owners.

Could you please tell me the exact weight of your laptop without the ODD ? Do you have one or two SSDs ?
Gigabyte is claiming 2,16 kg which seems wrong regarding the many different reviews on internet.
