It's ok to be paranoid. I know I've broken tabs, stripped heads, stripped threads and lost screws taking machines apart. I hate doing it and try to do it as rarely as possible.

Mine was picked up 1 minute before yours! I don't see any expected delivery date, but I am assuming either Friday or Monday. It's going to suck no matter what because they probably won't leave the package, and the closest DHL place is hours away, so not sure how I will ever get to pick it up. I used to just drive to UPS or FedEx place an hour away to pick those up but no DHL nearby.

I wish they would leave it with a neighbor, but haven't had any carrier do that in 10+ years.

Check regularly at DHL site and you should get an ETA date. I got mine after 8pm the next day.

I'm glad they don't drop things off with the neighbors because I wouldn't trust mine even if any item had no monetary value.

I'm going to allow it to go down low and then recharge it to calibrate it properly and then yes, I can test the battery out :)

    Will do :)

That's a shame, sorry to hear that. DPD here in UK give the option of leaving with a neighbour.

Zalman NC3000 are great. I can run games and demanding apps with no problems on my old hp envy that might otherwise cause it to overheat and shut down.

Laptop coolers all suck (well blow I guess :D) unless you mod them. The stock fans are simply too weak to be of any use, especially against a highly restrictive surface. The main benefit from laptop coolers is simply due to raising the back of your laptop. I tested my U3 with and without stock fans and it made not even 0.5C of a difference.

That said, my vote goes to the Notepal U3 because it gives the laptop a hefty lift, is not as restrictive as other coolers, and can be modded to become totally awesome.

    Where are the speakers located?

Also, that mesh on the top of the laptop above the keyboard, is that a fan intake or a speaker grille?

Sorry all, gotta go out for a couple hours. It's the 5th, meaning it's what's called Bonfire Night here in Britain, where massive bonfires are lit, huge firework displays are put on and the funfair is in town.

Fireworks display is not all night long, so I'll be back soon to benchmark, review and answer any questions. I can stay up much later tonight too, as I have no lectures tomorrow!

I plan on taking some pictures, making some ShadowPlay videos, benchmarking and trying to find out anything else you desperately want to know about this laptop.

    @arthedes I'll check when I'm back :)

I don't remember seeing any pictures of the bottom panel of the v3 yet. I'm assuming that it's not that much different than the v2. I'm assuming that the fan intakes are in a similar location. Can anyone confirm or deny?

The main two things I'd like to know are dB readings and if under volting can help those CPU temps at all. If those are good then I think it's time to find a way to stretch that budget just a little bit more...

p.s. I would be out lighting a bonfire under good 'ol Guy Fawkes too, but the kids are s bit young for it this year.

P.S. it will be interesting to see how it handle multi-tasking, e.g. gaming while encoding videos.

Really like your mod since I have a U3. What did you use to cut the pieces? I probably don't have anything that can cut metal at home, sadly.

    Go have fun

Are you saying you didn't see pictures of the v3 in this thread or in general because there are a few, go back a few pages.

I ordered my CF1 yesterday from OCUK, it shipped just this morning at 4:00AM EST. Ideally, my shipment will be here tomorrow by the end of the day, at which point I will be glad to answer questions and perform benchmarks, etc. So very excited to have a laptop that I can actually port around, that is (more than) moderately powerful.

Speaking laptop cooling & U3, here's the mod I'm going to be doing once I find out tonight if I have spare Noctua fans to use or not. All the credit goes to the original modder, n=1 and Mr Fox since I found the link from his U3 mod post in NBR.

    Hello all.

Well I have followed this thread for some time, especially the P35W V3 and P35X. However I bought the P35X V1 and recieved it actually this Tuesday. :I

And I just wanted to share with you my thoughts. :)

The build quality is very good, it seems like a robust laptop, which can stand some hits.
The monitor is really sharp and chrispy, however I run it as 1080p as I prefer it that way for now, because I have some programs that don't support 3k. :(
The sound is not something to write home about, it needs some deepness compared to my Samsung Series Chronos 7.
The power this beast have is beyond what I could imagine, whatever I throwed in the head of it, VM's, BF4, COD:AW it ran stable, smooth & fast.

I upgraded my laptop already, after 24 hours, with the new Samsung 850 Pro 256GB x2 (Changed the internal HDD & mounted on the the ODD) and put them in RAID0 - the speeds are crazyyy..
    AR9Wwb1.jpg
Also note that when you recieve the P35X v1, the internal mSata SSD's are already in RAID0. :)

Was at a convention today & got in touch with this cool dude which borrowed me his Thermal Inferred Camera which can see how hot my laptop was, while benchmarking it. At the hottest point it was 39 degress & you couldn't feel it on the laptop! GoodJOB Gigabyte!

The CPU was max 77 degress while doing benching according to HWMonitor.

My battery holds right now about 3-5 hours, this was while I was installing everything! Office 2013, Games you name it. Can't wait to test it out when it's settled and i'm at school doing less hard work. :)

This was all for now, if you want some more info, feel free to ask.

    Best regards
    Danny

What do you all want me to do first? First impressions video showing fan noise, display, speaker quality, physical tour etc? Like HTWingnut did for the Clevo P650 today? Pictures of notebook?

Or benchmarks? CPU undervolting? Thermal data? ShadowPlay gameplay with FPS counter?

Fan noise idle / loading with different profiles with effect on temperatures :p
Then physical tour of course : )

That would be nice to know also why you get 91° for the CPU when hallengreen got less (maybe the 4710HQ ?)

EDIT : and the weight first if you can (with and without the HDD)

I have a feeling it might be somethign to do with the IRIS iGPU taking on way to much workload and effectively heating the cores up more than the Optimus 4710HQ.....

not to mention the 4710 is at a lower core clock rate thus temps should be better

But Hallengreeen said he bought the "P35X V1", which must be a misspel and be the CF1, therefore the same CPU.
It has yet to be confirmed anyway, along with the benchmarks used.

I guess I'm most eager to know what kind of frame rate you can achieve with recent games at 3k and 1080p not necessarily every setting maxed, but with some settings dialed down where the game still looks good in your opinion, for example no MSAA, or using more efficient post process AA, etc.

Also does the 8GB VRAM result in less stuttering/hitching in some of the games that use a lot of VRAM like Skyrim with ultra high res texture mods, Shadow of Mordor, Wolfenstein New Order, Lords of the Fallen, etc.? Maybe even try other games with crazy unoptimized texture mods like GTAIV and Morrowind Graphics Overhaul.

What you want to do is benchmarks like this:
(that is from one of HTWingNuts reviews btw) in general just look at one of his reviews and do your best to copy it. Like this one

Be nice to get comparison benchmarks using the same settings at 3k and 1080p

Sorry that I'm not updating often. It's really late at night here. I'm going to bed soonish. I have all of tomorrow (actually, later today, it's way past midnight) to properly benchmark stuff (I'll set my alarm early-ish; sleep is for the weak :p). Currently testing undervolting of CPU. -100mV is stable it seems (have yet to test further undervolting). FireStrike Physics score rockets up when CPU is undervolted.

Oh, also tested temps when not propped up on stand but flat on desk surface as requested: 74°C max GPU during FireStrike, 91°C CPU.

Once again the Iris iGPU may be the culprit here on high CPU temps causing throttling.... since you have now undervolted it, the iGPU is not getting as hot as it use too and causing a slower clock speed.

the 4710HQ may get similar results to teh undervolted i7-4860HQ.... guess we will have to wait n see until a 4710HQ gets benched
