Thanks. for the heaven tests, tests 1 and 2 were run back to back, as were 3 and 4. All others done in isolation. The higher starting temps for tests 2 and 4 impacted performance. I didn't get chance at the time to do further testing, and have had little Tim since (hence my limited input to this thread!) however I may well get some time to tinker further, as the Xmas hols are upon us :)

I suspect a third or fourth test wouldnt differ much, but I haven't formally tested it, and in practical use I am not under volting or over clocking the laptop.

    Found it!

    Puts it in windows/temp

You have to be quick though because it deletes it.

Successfully updated my wireless driver without it renaming my networks.

    Also.

Anyone test out nvidia driver from smart update says it's .02 newer.

Wonder if I should give it a try.

Well I'm downloading it and going to copy it from windows/temp and think about it.

Hmmm I think I found the culprit of DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED I got earlier on FireStrike, it might be Intel Graphics driver 10.18.10.3960. When I install this I get the same error, can someone try the same to see if it is model related rather than only my laptop? You can just safely roll back to 10.18.10.3958 using Smart Update (I did it).

Thank you for the clarification. If you one day have the time, would you maybe let heaven loop for a while? It'd give an idea of the laptop's real performance during a longer than 5 minute heavy gaming session with your tweaks.
I really want this laptop but I'm not entirely sure if i can spend €2000 on a laptop that doesn't reach its full potential. If the laptop keeps running as good as it did under test 4 I'm sold.

    What was your ambient temperature?

When you benchmark, do you prop the back of the laptop up a bit by any chance? It can make a bigger difference than you might think.

Would be great if you could provide a quick guide to do it (I know it would take a ton of reading about p35x off of my schedule).

Are the screws painted? So you're saying they wouldn't be able to tell that you've opened up your laptop to reapply the thermal compound? That's what's keeping me from doing it right now.

I've never gotten this error in firestrike and I'm on that intel graphics driver version. What version of nvidia are you running? the 75 or 77?

Hmmm, that's bad for me I suppose, I am on 75. If you can give it a shot with 75 I would appreciate (also I am on Windows 8.1).

EDIT: Is your laptop CF1 or CF4? Mine is CF4.

    CF5, so 1080p with 16gb ram.

I'm on nvidia 75 right now. Are you running xtu when this happens? I got an error like that when I had xtu open and unplugged my laptop.

Nope, without XTU. After I got shutdown thanks to XTU with -70mV I stopped using it (didn't net me a ton in temperature department as well, also my laptop for some reason never showed temperature throttle so far on XTU). Ok so I am not the only one with this error on these driver sets, I guess this is the reason 58 is official driver atm. Though I am still in testing phase, if I am not satisfied with the laptop I guess I will return it (I am happy so far except for the obvious keyboard flex). 80C 980m + 90C quad core inside 0.8 inch thick form factor is a win in my book.

OMG I just did a run of FireStrike on battery.. temperatures are WELL below 65C (both CPU and GPU are like 61-63C), fans are inaudible AND 5.1k overall (6k graphics) score... We can seriously work something out between this and maximum performance...

One question is when you unplug the laptop I lose display for 0.5 second, anybody have this?

I'm not getting very much thermal throttle at all. According to XTU, all my cpu throttle is power limit throttling. Anyone else have this issue?

P35 v3 has many similarities to P35W v2, which has some how-to videos on the youtube, use them as a guideline for pasting will be sufficient, as long as you pay attention to what come out of where, you'll be fine.

Remember to tug the battery wire back to the groove, or you'll risk strip the wire when put the screws back in.
No, screws were not painted. As I understand, repasting doesn't void your warranty unless you physically damaged the parts, such as scratch the contact surface of CPU/GPU, or stripe a wire. The only thing in the laptop that has the warranty stickers are the fans, which does NOT need to be removed to repaste.

Haven't pay attention to the screen blackout issue, I usually unplug the power when the laptop is turned off or in sleep mode. I would assume the screen blackout is due to change in GPU profile when the power source change from plug to battery.

Just tried this. My display dims a bit, but doesn't disappear. This is the power profile changing a result of switching to battery (I have mine set to high performance for mains, and power saver for battery operation). Have you checked the smart manager power management settings, maybe something to do with this?

Mine is even, the keyboard, however, is not even, and it's became more obvious with each taking-apart.

More obvious... That is interesting. Do you mean the keyboard is getting worse with each taking apart? Can you show a picture of it? When I look at the keyboard, something in my mind tells me that it is not perfect but I cannot pin what, what are your concerns about it ?

it has weird bumps about each 1/3 section of keyboard. I had some old images somewhere, but dont remember when. The fix was to remove the keyboard and add some washers. Will add very slight flex, but remains flat.

It doesn't effect the usability of the keyboard, but the 'F' key is lower than others, and it's right above one the keyboard screw, so I guess with some tweaking the keyboard can be made even again, but I'm too lazy to disconnect all of the external drives to do that.

Yeah, it's very much an aesthetic issue, I probably won't be bothered to attempt to level out the keyboard until I'm ready to repaste as well. For a $2400 laptop, these quality issues are a bit ridiculous. You would think they would make sure the keyboard, the input device you use more than the trackpad on a gaming laptop, was little less flawless.

On a side note: I'm missing custom multi-touch gestures that my mac trackpad has. Anyone have any solutions to extend the functionality of the synpatics drivers, or an utility that does the same? I'm thinking about using autohotkey to just catch the output of the synaptics triple finger and rebind them.

There is obvious keyboard flex on this laptop, I am pretty sure every single one has it because it is clearly cheap material, I wish Gigabyte opted for a quality Steel Series type keyboard and added the premium, pretty sure everybody would be happy to pay extra 25-50 dollars after shelling out 2.5k... Bad business decisions...

Edit: and about the speaker quality too?

Can somebody else also try intel drivers 10.18.10.3960 with nvidia 344.75. If everybody is getting the same error on firestrike with these drivers i think i am keeping laptop, if it is exception, it might return..

Yupp i know you cake, asking others, btw the temperatures on p650sg is truly phenomenal, the only deal breaker for me was the style (not a big fan of a lot of facets), though it is a preference thing, if p35x doesnt work out for me, I guess it will be a long while before i get a new laptop :) the performance in this form factor is stunning, but that keyboard flex... Stupid decision by gigabyte putting this keyboard on 2.5k laptop..

Been looking at this laptop, considering between this vs a Sager NP8652 / Clevo P650SG.

Q1: has anyone seen in-person or hands-on this (Gigabyte P35X v3) vs a Sager NP8652 / Clevo P650SG ? They seem to be about the same form-factor size and weight.

Q2: whats up with the Optical Drive, DVD multi-writer only? no option for Blu Ray ? (According to XoticPC customization website)

Q3: How do you like the built-in LCD screen? Didn't see much discussion on it, good bad or what?

I can't comment on 1 or 3, but for 2, that's just xotic. It's swappable so you could put any DVD drive of the correct size in there, including blueray.

    Hi all,

I have been looking for some sellers of this. Newegg seems to be most trustworthy, but of course doesn't offer any customizations.

Anyone have any strong opinions for or against HIDEvolution, xotic, or gentech? It seems whenever I look for reviews/opinions I get a bunch of obviously fake reviews... which tends to make these resellers all the more sketchy.

Any advice before I drop about $3k would be nice!

    Nothing about hidevolution

Xotic lies so hard. I was told multiple different ETAs for the p35x, several times I was told that they were expecting shipment that day, all lies. You can read posts by others here, about this, but chances are they won't get stock until mid January.

Gentech did not lie to me when I called them and asked for an ETA. They said mid January, knowing full well that I wouldn't order if that was the case.

Picked my up from Newegg. Besides the verification bs I go through ever time I order, it's been a fantastic experience.

I have the uneven keyboard aswell, I think that if you overtighten the keyboard screws it makes it a little more noticeable. I took mine back out and just tightened the screws enough so they wouldnt fall out and it seemed to help a bit. Although its still not perfect.

    Happy post:
I got the CF4 and it's in Israel. Wonderful laptop and my question is - as a heavy user (office, programming, VMs, gaming) why do I need windows 8.1 pro ? for a touch screen I'd understand but not for this laptop. Why do I need 8.1 ?
