Ok, thanks for the quick reply.

Hey man, did you get any other modifications done to your laptop like a IC diamond repaste, or did you order the 3K version as is?

I have it on preorder from the U.S. (I'm in Oz) with HIDevolution. I got the repaste and have replaced the HDD with an SSD.

Why did you order from them? I'm new to ordering laptops from a laptop site but have really only heard of Xoticpc, is HIDevolution a better place to order from? Doesn't the laptop already come with two 128g SSD?

The 2 128GB SSDs are the mSATA, you can still install 2 more 2.5" SSDs if you don't want the DVD writer.

I had heard good things about them from a friend who had bought from them before. Maybe others on this site can make a recommendation (or not)
Yes, it does come with the SSDs already, but I made the switch to solid state a few years back and don't want to go back! Plus, I'd just had a bonus from work when I made the order...

Ah ok, thanks for the info.

Sounds good, I'll check them out! They are both based out of the U.S. so either way seems like a good choice.

Resolving to not update the drivers, especially the graphics drivers, is not really a viable option - the latest NVidia graphics drivers are required to iron out bugs & achieve the best performance in the latest games. No way I would buy a laptop if it meant I couldn't update the graphics drivers.

The N. driver is fine, it's the combination's of the drivers of wifi/Bluetooth/audio/Intel chipset that COULD cause the problems (Driver Power State Failure BSoD). And the Gigabyte's Smart Update is not very good at updating the most stable version.

They probably will resolve this issue over time (hopefully), especially given how expensive the laptop is.

Just so I am clear DelFang, are you saying that it is ok to update the nvidia drivers manually as long as I leave the wifi etc as it comes?
As Jbgolf52 says, I am hopeful that GB will provide a solution/update to their Smart Update given the number of issues people seem to be having.
Has anyone contacted GB and had a response from them regarding the driver issues?

Nvidia's latest driver is the first thing I installEd, and it has not cause me any problem thus far (include the Geforce Experience). The only driver BSoD I encountered was caused by Intel Chipset Driver: when I try to install the latest version, thr installer tells me that it newer version installed and ask me if I want to 'downgrade', which turns out that the versioned installed cause the exclaimation mark appeared on the SM Bus Driver in the Device Manager. So I installed the version I downloaded and reboot, everything is fine so far. I have every driver updated to the latest apart from the Smart Update and Smart Switch (uninstalled, useless, both of them).

What I'm trying to say is that you'll get higher chance of driver-related failure if you update the default driver.

Are you updating these through Gigabyte or getting the latest drivers for it on the web? If the latter, every company tweak their drivers a bit, that might be the issue. Just wait a little while until the laptop is sold widely all over the world. US retailers started selling it, Gigabyte should be hammering out those bugs as time passes by (assuming these problems are not hardware failure).

Updating drivers through Gigabyte is what caused the BSoD, and drivers download from their own website didn't. I believe I'm not alone in this when I say: don't get the update through Smart Update.

I recently got my GS70-099 from HIDEvolution and it was a very positive experience. I've been in contact with Ted for about a week or two before making the purchase. He helped and answered all my questions during the time. I placed the order on Weds, 11/19 and I received it that Fri, 11/21 since it was in stock, choose "Rush Delivery" and Next Day (w/ Sat delivery) shipping from FedEx. I did ask Ted if it was in stock before purchasing since I needed the laptop before the Thanksgiving holidays.

What made you go with them over xoticpc? It seems like they both have the same options for extras and upgrades, except xotic has a couple extra freebies.

OC'ing on this laptop is clearly a mistake, probably you even worsened the CPU throttle by introducing additional power throttling (not only to mention hotter GPU will increase CPU temps even further because of the cooling design of sharing heat pipes...).

I got the same freebies (MSI mouse and backpack, wished I got something else because the backpack is crap). I listed the reason why I went with HIDEvolution and it was because I needed it before Thanksgiving holidays. I ended up getting it a day after making the order. XoticPC might have been able to do that but I'll never know. Plus, you can beat receiving it a day after making the purchase. Yes, it did cost extra but well worth it when you're in a rush.

HIDEvolutions and GentechPC all have the same freebies give or take. Just mention the freebies you want from XoticPC and ask if they are offering it. So far, both of have said yes, we can match those freebies. So, just ask since it never hurts.

Good to hear, thanks for the info. I'll try that out and see how it goes. I don't need to rush it, just have to get it before December 31st. Also, did you get the 3K screen or 1080p? I'm on mobile and it's screwy for me, so sorry if I asked before and forgot.

Side note: I've never had a laptop with a side number pad, it seems pretty weird. Is this normal for high end gaming laptops? My Alienware M14X doesn't have it and it's a little off putting to me but the specs are great on this laptop.

^^ For gaming laptops it is a huge plus (anything computation related really). Also if I am not mistaken there is no 3k or 4k panels for 17" laptops on the market atm.

Yes, there is no 3 or 4k panels for 17" laptops and wished there were more IPS and 120Hz though.

I was once an owner of the P35Xv3-CF1 (3k & 4870 i7 model) from OCUK but returned it after having issues with CPU throttling, issues with newer drivers and wasn't patient enough to deal with it after spending 2.4k on it. I ordered it a few days after CakeFish and from the same retailer as him and others on here, Overclockers UK.

    Hi all,

I've been following this thread with interest and also watching the availability/asking price for the P35x v3 cf1 and cf3.

I see the availability of the cf1 on OCUK has today dropped from 10+ units to 'pre-order' status (I presume they're waiting on a re-up) and the price has rocketed to £2099!

Seems rather unrealistic on both counts to me. The P35x v3 cf3 is pre-order priced at £1749 on Scan. I was considering taking the plunge on the cf1 at its original price of £1799 but an extra £300 doesn't appeal at all.

Am I alone in thinking OCUK have priced themselves out of the market or is the cf1 really worth the premium price tag? Is there anyone left on the thread who has not returned their cf1 thinks it is worth the current price?

Not At all. You can buy the cf2 at xotic for 2100 US dollars lol, and the cf4 for 2400, stupid to pay all that extra money to just get a 100 mhz difference (that can't be reached by of throttling) and an iris pro you never use. Just buy the cf4.

To all that have/had the laptop how difficult is it to a. Repast b. Add/change msata and hdd, and c. Add ram? This is for a first time laptop owner. What tools do you need to do those modifications? Basically, is it worth paying xotic extra cash to do all the upgrades for me, or should I save money and upgrade myself?

Also, is it worth getting the 3k version? I will upgrade to the same specs on either one, so basically, in your opinion, is the 3k screen a benefit or a detriment, or does it not matter? Why?

Its so freaking easy to do upgrades and you'll want to do all the upgrades yourself: RAM, SSD & even repaste of TIM (if you're comfortable in doing it yourself and its very easy). The only issue i had was removing the speaker cable once you unscrew the bottom panel, it was very tight but gets easier every time after you disconnect it the first time.

TBH, I hated the 3K screen but thats me since upscaling sucks, have bad eyes and wear glasses but it does look gorgeous though.

Id beware xotic I ordered a p35w v3 from them on nov.15. they told me they wouldn't charge me until they got them in stock, on nov. 19 they called me told me they got the shipment in and were going to go ahead with payment, I said that was fine. About 5 days later my order was still in phase 1 so I called them to ask what the delay was and they said they were waiting for the laptops to come in as the shipment was delayed. Now the woman I talked to that told me shipment had come in and processed my payment wont answer my phone calls or email, and im still in phase 1 13 days later. Im sure this was a mistake but angers me that I was charged without computer being in their possession. Now they cant seem to tell me why I was charged or when the laptop will actually be available. Thinking about just cancelling the order but if I do that ill probably have to wait 3-4 weeks to get money back. Don't say I didn't warn ya.

By the way, I can see the screen on the cf4 to be matte on xotic but glossy on the others, such as gentechpc or hidevolution. Do anybody know if these are different screens or different finishes?

I see the cf4 is listed on OCUK with a 4720hq. I wonder how that will perform versus The 4710hq, in terms of throttling and thermals?

It is only rated 100mhz faster in core and boost clock and so doesn't sound like it will offer much either way.

I find myself wondering why Gigabyte have chosen to go with the 4720hq, maybe it does improve things or maybe it is just the new go-to chip for price/performance?

I find it highly frustrating that so very little is known about the release date. The GTX 980m was released almost two months ago and still the CF4 is not available in the US and Germany.

Ja, it is relly annoying that no website can give an accurate in stock date. I do see the 970m version is in stock, but NO where for 980M.
I got reply from HIDevolution recently said in stock, but when I check the website, it's still in pre-order. And today, GentechPC replied me that the Newest ETA is this week( which is the same they told me last week, so how trustworthy is this ETA, god knows).
I really don't think I'm able to get the P35X before I leave the U.S, so probably it's a good idea to get it after I come back in Jan.

Don't really understand why everyones been talking about how great the clevo p650se temps are compared to the p35x but I just saw xotic pc's video review and the clevo cpu hit temps over 90c just like the p35x. The Gpu stayed under 70c but that isn't a problem on the p35x either, even with the 980.

I haven´t seen that review but one problem with P35X v3 is that the throttling limit is set to 90, as soon as that´s reached it throttles, sometimes badly.
If the P650 is set higher than 90 degrees it can run at 92 and still going strong.

Its just really frustrating that this time I didnt want to play the waiting game. With the new AMD cards coming out in Q1 2015, the time it takes for the P35X V3 hitting stores near me is getting harder and harder to tolerate.

I just enquired XMG about availability of the P35X V3 and this is their response:

After one hour of BF4 in ultra (got 70fps with ultra) processor max temp is 74°, I don't check GPU temp but it seems to be the same
I'm waiting to see some reviews of the SG version to see temps and i'll buy one of it

This is the owner's lounge of Gigabyte P35X V3, please go to the respective owner's lounge if you want to discuss about your P650SE.

Hi, I notice that the battery status list on HIDevolution and GentechPC/XoticPC are different. The former list 4 Cell Internal Li-polymer, 15.2V, 61.25Wh, and the latters list 11.1V (75.81Wh). This makes a "huge" difference. Does anyone know which is the correct info.?

Mate, can you update us with your experience so far? Are you keeping the unit? How is the battery life? Overall impressions (I guess you are the only owner worldwide right now :D)
