P35X V3 still at pre-order status on GentechPC, and delayed to Dec 15 on Xotic PC. I guess it's impossible to get it just after the thanksgiving....I even wonder if I can get it before I leave the U.S on Dec 19. The worst case is get it after two month I come back...gosh.
Anyway, can I ask some questions? Does the P35X support 1.35V DDR3 1600 memory or it has to be the 1.5 V? And for 2.5 inch SSD, which one it support? 9.5mm or 7mm (or both?). Thank you~.

Edit: Does P35X support 2133MHz or limited to 1866MHz? I see Corsair Vengeance Performance 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3L 2133MHz CL11 Laptop Memory Kit on Amazon, and wonder if I should buy it or not (the price difference is only $10).

Don't have answer for the RAM, but as for 2.5", it's a thin metal bracket for 9.5mm fixed by 2 screws near the connector side, then the bracket itself is fixed to the laptop by another 2 screws. It will leave a gap above the SSD if you install the 7mm model, but it will not come loose.

    Regards

Edit: BTW, the stock OS is working fine so far. It's kind funny how everyone else got problems with stock OS but I can't get the clean install to work properly.

Will have to run more tests tomorrow night, may be 3DMark and a hour's Kombustor. Then some gaming perhaps, if I can find some time behind or under the sofa.

Glad to hear about the decent battery life, sounds like if battery is a big concern the p35 and possibly the razer blade are about the only option for a thin gaming laptop with over 4.5 hrs of general use, unless theres another ive not heard about.
Hopefully when I get my p35w v3 with 1080 it will be even better on battery than the p35x.

Well, it will help, but as the 970m is the same tdp as the 980m, you aren't going to see huge improvements in battery life. The extra screen resolution on the 3k version doesn't cut the battery that much, and everything else is the same

Where did you find the tdp of the 970 and 980? all the info ive read says NVidia hasn't released that info although I admit I just may have not been able to find the right spot. Only thing I was able to find was that it varies from game to game.
    * nevermind just found a site that says both use around 125W
Really my main hope was that the 1080 screen will help more as I will probably only be gaming while plugged in anyway. Always nice tho to have more battery when surfing the web or watching a dvd.

I think marking this laptop a failure is an example of looking for problems where there are none.

A guy goes to a doctor and says "doctor, my hand hurts when I move it like this". He shows him.
The doctor says "then don't move it like that".

The alegory: you succeeded in proving that the P35X V3 is throttling when the following happens:
    1. The CPU is stretched to max
    2. The GPU at the same time is stretched to max

So first, for non-gaming this is a really good thing. There should be no problem working on CPU intensive applications. Score.
Second, for gaming - if the CPU is not used then it's not really a problem.

Now let's talk about the problem: CPU + GPU intensive work.
Ok I give you that. if you stretch both of them to the maximum you need to prep the laptop by a professional or do it yourself:
    1. Re-paste
    2. Underclock
    3. Cooling pad

I think that 95% of my user-experience will not even hit that problem. If I don't run benchmarks and overheads and I only run my game at max than I'm good. Also, perhaps I can enjoy most games at little under the maximum details ? who knows.
What do I do with the other 10% ?
I decide if I want to buy a computer that is 15.6" has amazing qualities and requires me to invest a bit more to tweak it, hoping that in the near future Gigabyte will tweak drivers/firmware further to improve things.

For me this laptop is much more than good enough for gaming, working and staying mobile with it.

If you return this laptop because people figured out that under 100% load it requires some extra work than it's your adult decision. I made mine.

Now all I want is to ship the bloody thing to Israel :) someone shout at overclockers for me please ...

Just for accuracy sake (your bits I put in bold), CPU throttles even when not stretched anywhere near to max (i.e. Heaven Benchmark, really low CPU usage on that one) - that's not good for gaming. CPU is always used while gaming (to different degrees), and CPU throttling on Heaven benchmark is not a good omen. I'm not saying it's a useless notebook, but you have to understand the limitations of the CPU in this system, it will limit you in some games.

EDIT: e.g. Battlefield 4 where Mr Najsman saw his 4710HQ throttle to 2Ghz due to heat at some points, also during the last 2/3 of that test GPU usage was lower, this corresponded to a lower average CPU frequency during that period due to increased CPU throttling after the first 1/3 of that test - the throttled CPU was bottlenecking the GPU.

True, but I assume it was a kind of worst case scenario, since MrNajsman did not do any repaste and undervolt.

So there is no way to receive this laptop sooner than 12/15? Crap.

It's a bit frustrating that no one sells CF4s anywhere while the date is being pushed repeatedly. I'd even settle for CF3 (one SSD 256GB and a nice screen) but whatever game Gigabyte is playing here I don't like it.

I also hate that my country received shipments from all over the world but overclockers UK won't ship but I've said that before already. They suck and nothing I can do about it. Feels good to say it again though.

I so hate OCUK. I just got my RMA rejected. All they did was reset to factory settings and tested it. Of course it would pass factory resetting. I even told them what i did to get the error and how to fix it. I told them I did a factory reset and it passed. I told them I wanted a refund because I wasn't satisfied that I had to tinker with such an expensive laptop. Of course, I asked them to email me before doing anything and I get an email of RMA rejection and my laptop has been shipped back to me. So disappointment with them and how they did their testing epsecially for a customer who isn't based in the EU. Shipping back will be a PiTA.

Man that really sucks! I could see rejecting an RMA if it was obvious you had damaged it or something, but you made it clear what the problem was and they didn't even test it properly.

Maybe you can workout a deal and sell it to the person wanting it shipped to Israel? Sell it at new pricing, helps you out, and helps him out since they won't ship to him. I don't think you had anything physically wrong with your laptop right? It was just the mess of drivers and weird software issues that many of us have had to work through?

Yeah there were no physically damage and works stock outside the box. It runs into issues once you start updating the drivers.

I'm going to try to return via unsatisfied and go from there. Worst case sell it outside. Good news is I'm in the US and if any one interested in the US, let me know.

In UK if you returned it within 14 days they have to refund your money. You have right to return goods if you are not 100% satisfied with the product. Seems like they rejected your return because you are not live in EU.

The only "actual" difference between CF2 and CF4 is the screen resolution, CF2 is 1080P and CF4 is 3K screen, all matte type. Other than that, there's no big different, CF4 just add another 128G mSATA SSD and 8G ram.
I will choose CF2 since I think 3K is too much for a 15.6'' screen, and I'm satisfied with 1080P. Beside that, I will change my own 16gb RAM and SSD (512 or 1T), so I don't want to spend addtional $300 for the screen.

BTW, anyone know if P35X support 2133Mhz RAM? or the upper limit is 1866Mhz? Thank you.

Thanks the articles will help if they deny my RMA refund due to being unsatisfied. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt until we speak again. Hopefully this time will be better handled but still disappointed in everything.

I'd like to run a quick survey to the current owners: what is your OS drive? mSATA SSD (Single? RAID) or 2.5" SSD (HDD bay or ODD bay) or 2.5 HDD (HDD bay or ODD bay)?

I'm using 128GB single mSATA SSD. Couldn't get a stable OS on the 2.5" SSD in HDD bay for god knows why.

    I'm using RAID 0 1TB mSATA's for OS
2TB HD internal for data/programs/backups etc
2TB HD in optical bay for movies and TV shows

I chose not to RAID the 2TB HD's (assuming you even CAN do that) only because I wanted to be able to remove the optical bay one and use the disk drive if I wanted without breaking the RAID 0 array.

    About RAID0
It's your call but as a professional I urge you to consider RAID1 for your OS SSDs
In RAID0 double the drives double chances your os goes kaboom

RAID1 means if one drive goes to ssd heaven you are still running. You have time to buy a replacement rebuild and continue. No harm done.

It's also supposed to be reading from both drives so faster reading, and you already have a fast ssd so not giving up on anything big.

    Just my 2c

I just called them and they said that I didnt specify that I wanted to return the laptop because i was unsatisfied and now the 14 day window has passed. im so piseed, now i have to take it up with management.

Here's what I originally wrote to them when I filed for RMA and full refund

On there website they said, as long as I'm within the 14 days and say that i want a full refund I can get it. I don't need to specify that I'm unhappy as long as i ask for a refund. ill do more research tomorrow since i stayed up just to call them. Sad thing is they hang up on me when it gets to TEch support line everytime I try to call in. Is this high school or what?

Wow, that really is bullsh*t, you were very clear in your e-mail to them - there's no two ways about it, it's crystal clear you wanted a refund based on that e-mail. They better sort it out for you! Not good for Gigabyte's reputation at all, I wonder if they read these forums - they should, they might realise they need to change a few things!

So, does a re-paste help with the CPU throttling issue? I just returned a thicker laptop, realizing thinner is what I truly want. I keep hearing mixed things about the P35x.

    Here's there reply to me

I have a CF1 for sale within the US. I'm selling for the price I paid + shipping within the US.

A factory reset using oem drivers and the system passes 3DMark. Even with updated drivers gaming doesn't produce a BSOD or crash. Will need a repaste of TIM.

Going to try one more time and give up.

Well, if your initial email to them asking for a refund was within 14 days of purchase, then that's their problem & they need to honour that agreement. The fact that your initial email was very clear to them that you wanted a refund does not allow them to say that they misunderstood you and that NOW you are outside of the 14 days - the date should stand based on your original e-mail to them; I think you should make that clear to them if your initial e-mail was withing the 14 day period.

So I looked up my tracking on when I got it and i received it on 11/10 and filed a claimed on 11/15. So based on their return policy, I qualified for a full refund. Yes, I totally agree with you. So I just called again for the 6th time and use the time frame and the guy said ok I'll process the return but in the future, buy from the US so you don't have to go through this mess again. I was so happy, guess my girlfriend was my lucky charm since she was awake and heard my phone conversation with them.

Thanks for the support fellas, much appreciated especially after the run around I got from them. My GF started to look them up on LinkedIn to see who we could email our complaints to. Hopefully, they do process my return soon since I'm going to hold them accountable if they don't.

After returning a thicker laptop, this and the Origin EVO 15s have my attention. If not gaming for more than 1-2 hours at a time, is throttling an issue? Does a re paste help?

Thanks, glad its over and I got a refund

I'm never importing anything this much again, lesson learned.

Origin Evo 15S is so beautiful but so expensive. I was looking into them as an alternative but decided elsewhere due to pricing.

Yes, repasting and getting a laptop cooler such as the Cooler Master NotePal U3 will help cool the CPU. You'll probably have to UV and disable Turbo boost on the CPU also.

If battery life is not a major concern the msi gs60 ghost pro is also a good option. I previously owned one and sent it back due to lackluster battery life and so-so trackpad everything else was great. It doesn't have the 980 tho only a 970.
