No! Why are you not understanding?! :p

I am getting ONE SSD for £0. The original was sent back to Amazon by the courier as it could not be delivered to the pickup location I had selected.

No, he gets one SSD for the price of $0
The first order never arrived and was refunded as stated earlier and he got the mail which confirms it and there is no way that they can charge anything for it

And from the other information he got the "Sorry for our fault" here is your free SSD as redemption - but without to see a mail confirmation or so i cant guarantee if something would be charged for this one

    Edit: i'm too slow...

Edit#2: As in your post #498 (i think) you mention that the second SSD is treated as a seperate order which wasn't clear bevore) and it is proven to be 0$ there is no chance that they can make you pay for it

No he is getting one for $0, but Cakefish give it a month you have a 500gb SSD, 2x128gb SSD, and soon a 1TB Samsung Pro SSD. I guarantee you can survive a month with "only" that. It is not like they will stop selling SSDs in the mean time.

You also might find a really good deal on one over black friday/cyber monday sales and save yourself some cash then.

hi again, in this case you'll have to pay for the replacement SSD
the no "additional charge" is in this case the shipping cost
like they say - in 15days they will ask how many items you've received and charge you for the one replacement SSD - but it could be that you just pay the SSD and no shipping costs so at least a tiny discount

I guess thermal throttling doesn't have to be significant, maybe it just reduces the clock speed a little, either way it would be interesting to know how many Mhz it throttles & what the stable boost clocks are for CPU & GPU, (and I bet you've already posted the info now considering I've not read the newest 3 pages yet!).

Maybe they're expecting you to send the drive back, when you ask for a refund you normally send the item back. (After reading 3 pages of SSD delivery posts I suggest you'll save time & effort by just speaking to the people who sold it to you to find out what the deal is - how the h*ll do we know!) ;-)

Uhg, I just got an email saying it will be almost another week (Wednesday the 12th), and its been sitting at a building 2 hrs away since 8am. I'm sad now :(

Sucks because if it came on Tuesday I'll be off work anyway and can sit home and wait/sign for it.

Good thing I listened to you guys and refrained from buying another SSD. Just saw that the swappable bay only supports 9.5mm SSDs/HDDs so a 7mm Samsung 840 Evo wouldn't have fitted inside.

@robbo no, still haven't got round to posting it. I'm gonna take screenshots of XTU monitor for you while I perform the 3K w/o AA benchmarks. That'll provide more detailed info than I collected yesterday.

I'm originally from New Zealand. In fact, have only been in the UK for 18 months.

The retailer I buy from in NZ has an amazing returns policy. One of the conveniences they provide is that they will provide a refund immediately upon a product being flagged for return if opted for, including situations where I've cancelled an item en-route to my home. They do this sort of thing on good faith, and give me (and every other customer), something like 7 days to initiate the return of the product from the date of the refund. I've returned a few items in this manner. Not necessarily exactly the experience you've had, but very similar.

I'm just saying I would be extremely cautious thinking you're getting a free product. I assume this is not common in the UK so it may have taken you by surprise - but it is used in other countries. Another thing to consider is that Amazon would not rationally compensate that amount of value for something as mildly inconvenient as a shipment being delayed for a few days. Just be careful is all I'm saying, really. Don't want your credit smashed because of this or being chased by collectors.

You should call DHL and tell them, then it takes like a day for their research team to tell customs to , then it will be one more day. I was in the same situation and I am getting it Monday now.

I did that yesterday and it cleared customs right away. Now mine is 2 hrs away, already here in Nebraska, showing "forwarded for delivery" which from a google search means its going to USPS/FEDEX/UPS to do the actual delivery.

By chance I received an email today from my separate inquiry yesterday when I asked about a signature release form so I wouldn't have to be present to sign for it. In that email it says delivery is planned for November 12th which is the very first delivery date I've gotten. I hope it is wrong and I get delivery on Monday the 10th because it doesn't take 3 days to get from the DHL office to another shipper, and then placed on a delivery truck.

*I don't think DHL delivers at all in the US, that's what a search led me to. It said that they hand off to another carrier to do final delivery. I am not expecting an attempt tomorrow but I guess I will stay around home just in case.

I've shipped many packages via DHL within the US, not sure about your particular area, but they seem to be right up there with FedEx and UPS in terms of coverage.

But do they deliver the packages? (not accept and do the bulk of the shipping) What I read that they don't to the actual final delivery anymore and pay the other carriers to. I have no clue myself, that's just what I read.

    Cakefish,

If you haven't installed and used Throttlestop (TB) yet. Can you test disabling TB & activating UV out and see how good or bad it works?

I was about to get on with these benchmarks but the same issue I had yesterday has reared its ugly head again - the 980M will not idle - it is constantly pegged at full 3D clocks - when no game is activated. I have gone through the NVIDIA Control Panel and set the Intel GPU to be used for every program I can think of that is not a game. And yet still it runs as if a game is launched... it means idle temps are high. What to do?

EDIT: found the culprit - it was ShadowPlay! I had enabled it in GeForce Experience and it was preventing the GPU to downclock at idle. Nasty bug there that needs fixing :/

Found the culprit - it was ShadowPlay. I had enabled it in GeForce Experience and it was preventing the GPU to downclock at idle. As soon as I disabled it the GPU started to idle at usual low power clocks.

Thanks yet again for your tireless work, Cakefish.

The Cooling Pad actually made quite a difference in the Ungine temps - especially with the GPU. Interesting!

Also, a big difference in minimum FPS.

And no CPU thermal throttling with the cooling pad. The minimum fps must be when the CPU throttles. That would explain why in some benchmarks the 980m is doing super great but sometimes there are very brief huge drops in fps (a few milliseconds, I saw it in a video comparing the 980m with gtx 970, gtx 780 and 770).

The Clevo is much better in terms of temperatures though. Hard to make a decision. That's really the only dark point of the p35x : the CPU cooling system.

It would be interesting to see if lifting up the laptop is enough or not (sometimes a cooling pad seems good just because its lifts up slightly the laptop).
For the moment, considering the price of the p35x, that's a no go for me.

Had great results with the Zalman NC3000, which is 220mm fan. A little more expensive than either of these two option but IMO very much worth it - this thing allows me to run games at settings that otherwise cause my poor wittle hp envy to overheat and shut down...on the P35x it will unleash the kraken: Zalman ZM-NC3000U Ultra Quiet Cooler for Up to 17 inch Laptops: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

Get the cooler master u3 and mod the 3 fans. I believe I posted in this thread or the P35x and p35w thread a link on how to mod the U3. Best part is you can put the fan wherever you want.

The "Local" office is clear across the state lol. Its probably not at DHL anyway, they handed it over to another carrier. I'm hopeful its with USPS and it will get delivered tomorrow since they always deliver on Saturdays anyway.

I could try that if it's not out for delivery on Monday, the problem is that it's probably hours away and would require taking a day of vacation and giving no notice, not very realistic. Easier to just write a note and hope they leave it. It doesn't help that their tracking ended when they handed it off this morning. I have no way to track it with the next carrier other than calling DHl each day and see if they have any new info.

Good info cakefish. Hmm, you're getting thermal throttling of the CPU when running Heaven Benchmark, and that thing uses hardly any CPU (only 20-30% CPU usage on mine when I tested it just now)! That's not a good sign. Also your GPU is not at full boost (albeit very close at 1100Mhz) during your Heaven run - talking without use of the cooler. So, basically, your system is really struggling to cool itself and is throttling boost clocks to compensate, and the CPU in particular, I would think about re-pasting your CPU, but compare your temperatures against other identical laptops though first, unless you just wanna go ahead with the repaste anyway. Then explore undervolting your CPU to reduce temperatures and get more performance. Given your temperatures I don't think you have any room for overclocking the GPU because it's already slightly throttling during Heaven. Fair enough I suppose, it's an ultra thin laptop after all! But, you could even think about repasting the GPU too. That's the problem with these ultra thin laptops, they often compromise on cooling & performance and you often don't get the maximum performance from the installed parts - the cooling pad helped a lot though - think about repasting your CPU & GPU if you're willing, or wait to compare your temperatures against others.

(Interestingly the worst throttling of GPU & CPU seemed to be on Heaven benchmark, which is probably the longest continuous benchmark out there, so is likely to be close to what you'll see during a gaming session as heat builds up - although CPU usage will be higher when gaming, which would mean even more CPU throttling - I think you should try and address the CPU side of things if you can.)

Yep, U3 + 120mm fans + cut out really does wonders for temps.

    Notepal U3 with 3x 120mm fans mod
    Cutting out the metal

Liquid Ultra should also do wonders for your CPU temps if you don't mind the risk (practically 0 if you take the appropriate precautions). And if you want to get REALLY crazy you could also try lapping CPU heatsink.

I'll just say that Liquid Ultra alone dropped my load temps by 5-8C, and using the modded U3 knocked off another 5-8C, so the thermal benefits are substantial.

I suppose if Heaven is your only benchmark... then you'd be correct?

GPU isn't throttling due to heat. It is throttling due to 'pwr' according to GPU-Z. I had the same behaviour on my 780M before I flashed it with sl7's VBIOS.

How easy is this to repaste? I'll have to check the picture I took of the internals to gauge how difficult it'll be to access the CPU die.

Heaven is a good benchmark, because it's a long benchmark, more indicative of gaming states where there is sustained high GPU usage for long periods, so is probably the most relevant. Also, Heaven benchmark isn't even indicative of worst case scenario for gaming, because like I said CPU usage is negligable (20-30% usage), and also even though the GPU is at 100% usage there are games out there that manage to get more current out of a GPU at 100% load than Heaven does, so even from a GPU only perspective it's not the worst case scenario in terms of current load & temperatures.

If your 980M is throttling due to power then I think that's probably due to the limitations of the power adapter (being only 180W) - you could probably do with a KillaWatt meter you just plug into the electrical outlet to see how many Watts your power adapter is sucking from the wall. 980M's don't throttle for Power reasons in Heaven in terms of vBIOS settings, see this review of a 980M laptop from notebookcheck.net, it's at 1126Mhz stable:
MSI GT72 (GTX 980M) Notebook Review Update - NotebookCheck.net Reviews
But, I think your 980M is throttling due to temperature, because it didn't throttle in the same test when using a cooling pad - I think it's temperature related. Also where GPUz says perfcap, that doesn't coincide with reduced clocks at that point, it's just at 1100Mhz stable the whole time.

Repasting is a good idea if you're confident with it, at least that way you know it's optimised and as good as you can get it, then you can go about underclocking/undervolting the CPU too if necessary. Also think about getting an upgraded power adapter if you find that you're power limited - the KillaWatt meter you need for this (meters are cheap so worth having!). (You almost certainly won't have enough power left in the adapter to significantly charge your battery & game at the same time anyway - my adapter uses 70W to charge the battery alone!)

***EDIT: The Gigabyte Auros X7 Pro uses a 200W adapter, so that might be compatible with yours, (sometimes if they're not compatible then the battery won't charge), but that's only an extra 20W. I'd explore your options on the power adapter in terms of what's available. Ideally you want one from 220-240W upwards.

Different model but same cooling setup. Seems easy enough. You don't have to take the fans off. I'm gonna repaste and let you all know how it goes! :)
