I've read some. Here's my $.02.
I have a P35x v6. Virtually identical to the v7, minus the CPU. I already had to send it in for service once, due to the GPU fan having issues. Since then (barely a month since I've started seriously gaming on it again) the same GPU fan is starting to make noise again (like it's unbalanced), the sound is horrible (like there's interference from gaming controls), and the temperatures are extremely hot. At least the fans work...for now. But they didn't when I got it back from factory service.
In fact, the rep BALD FACED lied to me about the bios update making it impossible to throttle fan speeds. That's an outright lie--and in fact the same gigabyte software interface still controls both CPU and GPU fans--just as before. However, the tech who replaced the GPU fan didn't plug it in properly, and I had to open the case & resit the plug so the fan would operate.
So here I am, $100 for factory service, fan is making noise like it did before--and gets worse over time. Sound is impossible to troubleshoot, but sounds horrible in both speakers & headphones. And the wifi keeps dropping. Same desk as i was using for the MSI. MSI had no trouble. No signal drops. (Granted, I had previously replaced the killer wireless card with an Intel one).
I wanted to like Gigabyte. I have had a couple of their mice--and they worked great (still using one now). I went into this purchase with an open mind. Instead, I got to spend $$$ for factory service; the hassle of re-installing my boot drive with all the stuff that I use daily; sound that is impossible to listen to while gaming; and a wifi signal that drops more than prom dresses in May.
This thing is an outright lemon. The only reason I haven't beaten any Gigabyte customer service reps to a pulp over it--is because I'm on the other side of the country--I have a regular job--and I don't have time to waste on their "customer service" shiens. Seriously, their customer service is a joke. You can't get a hold of anyone twice in a row. Even the guy who left me a message about how to call him back directly--when I was FURIOUS over my fan not working after I'd received my laptop back....wasn't able to be reached, even after I left him a message.
Stay the hell away from Gigabyte.chezzzz likes this. -
GentechPC, XoticPC, HIDEvolution, Prostar etc...
I also call this the Gigabyte Flamethrower because that name is easier to remember and more accurate. To be fair it holds clocks fairly well, but gets crazy hot inside and out. -

Heat I can deal with. Fans that work about as well as something I could jury-rig with duct-tape & a wood block...aren't. Nor are the rest of said issues appropriate. I just updated the wifi driver with an intel release dated from BEFORE i sent in the laptop for repair. The fact that it wasn't installed already is disconcerting--especially if it fixes the connectivity issues I've been having.
As to resellers...none of them can fix (or are willing to deal with) issues caused by components they use. See that Sager in my signature? 2x GTX 260m cards died in that sucker. TWO. Either that's really ****ty build quality on Nvidia's behalf--or the Sager acts as a catalyst for GPU demise. All I know is that I paid $2000 for it, and another $850 for a replacement GPU.
The only reason I'm not pissed as much about my MSI GT60 crapping out--is because the failure was so catastrophic that it only stands to reason it sustained a power spike. I'll take the blame on that. But the Gigabyte & Sager being ****-sandwiches....unpardonable. And pretty much all those companies you list use Clevo--just like Sager. It has been a few years (I bought the Sager in 2009) but it left nearly as horrible a taste in my mouth as this god-forsaken Gigabyte. -
No no you're missing the point. First off Gigabyte and Clevo are seperate. Clevo P series machines are way way better cooled than the Gigabyte P series.
But the point is you buy through one of them for support. So if your machine has a problem you contact the reseller and they'll respond quickly and handle it instead of you failing to get a hold of Gigabyte reps over and over.
Gaming laptops have higher failure rates than other machines that aren't used as heavily. You just said that you've had a failure with Clevo, Gigabyte, and MSI... There is no magical brand.sicily428 and don_svetlio like this. -

I have no idea where gigabyte sources their stuff from. What I was referring to with Sager is that it WAS a Clevo chassis--as are 99% of the "resellers" that were recommended. Extended warranties don't mean diddly squat to me. I can't afford being without my PC for a month; especially when I'm in some god-forsaken sandbox for months at a time, the closest repair facility is 5000 miles away, and my PC is one of the sole joys i have left to enjoy.
The inconvenience is almost worse than the shipping cost, imho. -

My $.02. . .
My biggest complaint is that Gigabyte disabled wake on Mouse/Keyboard. if you want to use the laptop as a desktop replacement you will need to leave the lid open so you can press the power button or any key on the built in keyboard to wake the laptop.
Contacted Gigabyte and it seems to be a hardware limitation. Again very frustrated after paying $2,000 for a laptop you should have basic functionality to wake the system using a usb mouse/keyboard. -

I like MSI. Let me clarify. I'm not opposed to MSI--and in fact, they were my #1 choice for a new laptop--even though my old one had just crapped out after 3 glorious years of service. The issue is that MSI doesn't have 1070 GTX with a 4k screen--and that was the deal breaker for me. In retrospect, I probably should have sucked it up & lived with a sub-stellar 1060 GTX & 4k...which would probably have yielded far less problems.

p.s.
does keypad enable/disable w/ mouse...make any difference on the wake functionality? -

Don't think this laptop P35X v7 is going to be released. I was told by a Gigabyte Rep that the Aero 15 seems to have superseded it.

If they're going aero-only I wouldn't complain that much actually, I like that platform a lot better than the P series. -

They did release it, i thought? I mean, i could have sworn i saw them on newegg or amazon a while back.

fangbook appears to only be 1060 GTX. In fact, I click on "4k laptops" and "1070GTX" and get nothing but 18" it appears.

Yeah, odd. newegg's page for it shows "out of stock", but i could have sworn they had it for sale several months ago. the whole reason why i was seeing the v6 for 1800 was because the v7 was out.

I had the same issue, but I didnt send it away... I just opened it up, I got so irittaed by the noise I took the fan out... Then it started over heating, so I put the fan back in, now that I've put the fan back in it doesn't work.
You mentioned that you had to resit the plug so the fan would operate, where is that located? Maybe ive knocked it out or something.
Thanks -

If you took out the fan altogether, I hope you didn't seriously damage anything with the overheating.
The plug I'm talking about is the power plug for the fan. You can't miss it, since it's pretty much the only thing that the fan plugs into. I thought I posted pics on here somewhere. I'd repost, but I don't remember if I have those pics or where I put them. -
Think I've stuffed it.. I took the fan out of the housing by removing the screws and physically taking the fan out. I've clicked it back in but now its not spinning.. haha!
Do you have any idea where I can buy the entire fan from? -

If i knew that, I would have done it myself, rather than spending $100 shipping it back to Gigabyte's piss-poor factory service & enduring the bald-faced lies of their tech support.
There's a reason why I'm never buying Gigabyte again.
p.s.
I've noticed I have blemishes on my screen now. Like marks that can't be cleaned off. Nothing I did on my end.
