My entire family lives in taiwan, does anyone know if these laptops are out there? This looks like my dream laptop right now
-
70 watt hours (razer) / 47 watt hours (gigabyte) = 8 hours / 5.3 hours -
I really want this laptop. It sounds perfect. I was interred in a razer until I read about the poor viewing angles an such. Sounds like the P34g won't suffer the same fate.
Those numbers for battery would be great, but does the LCD require more juice than the Razer? Sometimes higher res monitors increase power consumption IIRC.

Edit - I check this thread daily hoping for more news. Here's hopin it lives up to expectations. -
I'm also watching this thread daily. I just hope the $999 price tag holds true for the base version. Once you get in the 1300 range it becomes much less attractive.
-
any news? I'm hoping I can pick this one up before I leave for uni in september
-
No, it's killing me. I google it almost every day.

The 900p option is now missing on Gigabyte's webpage, could it possibly mean that we can get it with 1080p screen only?

Not that I care, but do you know..

I appreciate the info. I has been a long time since I have looked into running a monitor at non-native resolutions. I guess it may not be as bad as I thought.
Still wish this thing would release already....

Thanks for the info. I would still prefer to get a 900p display though. 1080p is uncomfortable for me on a 14-inch screen. Yes, you can run things at a lower resolution, and supposedly it doesn't look too bad, but what's the point of having a 1080p display if you're going to run it in 900p only anyway? Besides, I don't think scaled 900p will look any better than native 900p. The benefits of better brightness and color range will be ruined by blur.
Anyway...I really hope they don't cut the 900p option. BUT if the 999$ model has both GTX 760M and 1080p, I will not hold back -
Well specs say FHD screen is AHVA LCD which is equivalent of IPS screen. That alone overweights 900p screen with regular LCD. I'm very interested now to see how that panel performs.
-
A Gigabyte representative from Taiwan HQ confirmed to me that P34G will be coming with Full HD (no 900p version).

Test Alienware 14 Notebook - Notebookcheck.com Tests
It's surely the same AUO panel. -
-
And yes, I think it is the same one which the Clevo w740su uses. -
-
Do you know how the games look on this display if downscaled to 900p? Also, if even the base version of the laptop comes with a 1080p display, do you think the difference between models is going to be storage only? Like 1 mSATA SSD and no HDD for the 999$ model?
-
Honestly, I think its more likely we will get the HDD rather than the SSD in the $999 model.
I also wouldn't be suprised if the graphics card droped to like a 750m, but just my 2 cents -
Hands On: Gigabyte Ultrablade Gaming Notebook - YouTube
Not sure if this is new to anybody but the person here confirms a release date of late july/ early august, so should be here soon atleast. -
-
I've been following this notebook and its 15" brother, the P35K, daily now. Does anyone know the heat and noise performance of either one? A hot and loud notebook would kill it for me.

If we're talking about 14-inch models... People are getting 98+ degrees CPU temperature on Clevo W230ST, which has a much thicker chassis and more space for cooling system. It has 765M though...
MSI GE40, which is close to P34G in terms of specs and dimensions (4702MQ+GTX 760M, it is slightly thicker though), does not run very cool either.
However, according to Anandtech, Razer Blade (4702HQ+GTX 765M) does not run too hot, which gives a bit of hope... -
Got in touch with a taiwanese manufacturer and she'll notify me soon as to availability and stuff (I'm still not sure if the p34g is out even in taiwan yet so this might not be news to anybody).

Nevermind.

any news for usa/canada?
-
Nope...none from Gigabyte NB on facebook atleast..

I contacted EXcaliberPC, as they are a Gigabyte dealer. So far they have heard nothing regarding the availability in the US.

Dear Customer,
Thank you for interesting to our products! P34G will be released to U.S market around beginning of Sept. You may check our GIGABYTE NOTEBOOK FACEBOK for all incoming products update.
Thank you for choosing Gigabyte products

This is the reply I received from the gigabyte Sales and Mktg support. I've been waiting for some time now, hopefully they won't push back any more. -
Edit: Sorry for the double post!
-
I got the same reply....
...and I specifically asked if the laptops where gunna be sold in Canada! -
I really need a new laptop but I just need to cool off and wait for this and the P35K to come out. I'd hate to buy something now and in a month or two regret it. I am tempted by the GS70 but it has a TN panel and is not going to be upgradeable in any way. Probably all these thin laptops are "as is" without anyone being able to swap things out as you can with most laptops, but seems all the other systems have overheating issues so the smart thing is to wait for reviews on all these thin models to come in.

"Hi Cameron,
Thank you for interesting to our products! P34G will be released to U.S market around beginning of Sep. You may check our GIGABYTE NOTEBOOK FACEBOK for all incoming products update. Gigabyte doesnt offer student discount but I know some retail stores may have special program. Please check with Newegg (Newegg.com - Computer Parts, Laptops, Electronics, and More!) or Amazon (Amazon.com: Online Shopping for Electronics, Apparel, Computers, Books, DVDs & more) once it release.

Regarding 900p/1080p availability...
Just a hypothesis, but I have looked at this page on Gigabyte's site (scroll to the bottom of the page and click Full HD)... It says: "Vivid Visual Enjoyment with 1080p Full HD Display (optional)".
So perhaps 900p will be available in some countries. -
According to the Gigabyte NB facebook page the launch for the US will be mid/late September for the p35k. It also seems like the p34g will launch after the p35k so late September is the earliest probably we will see it stateside. I think Gigabyte is really shooting itself in the foot with this launch. They're missing a huge potential chance to capitalize on students going back to school and I have a feeling their systems will be in short supply when they do launch. Also their base price seems to be $999 for the p34g, but my guess is that it'll be i7-4700m, 4 gigs of ram, 500 hdd, and 760m. With upgrades it'll probably come out to $1300 for a decent system (speculation). I need a new system soon for school in the fall but I can't pull the trigger on the clevo w230st, or msi ge40. If they wait any longer I'll probably just give up and build myself a nice desktop and remote desktop from a cheap ultrabook when I need power and just suck it up and casually game on an intel hd 4600.
-
yeah this release date is really going to decrease their sales.
-
Hoping this comes out in Australia before end of October and retails for under $1500 with the high end i7 and 256gb SSD!!
-
This is definitely an interesting looking laptop. I had basically given up on getting a 14" gaming laptop due to heat issues, but I think this is the first dual fan setup I've seen with that screen size.
