Based on a razer 14 getting 8 hours (wifi web browsing), the p34g is more likely to get closer to 5 to 5.5 hrs, depending on firmware and motherboard optimization.

    70 watt hours (razer) / 47 watt hours (gigabyte) = 8 hours / 5.3 hours

I really want this laptop. It sounds perfect. I was interred in a razer until I read about the poor viewing angles an such. Sounds like the P34g won't suffer the same fate.

Those numbers for battery would be great, but does the LCD require more juice than the Razer? Sometimes higher res monitors increase power consumption IIRC.

I'm also watching this thread daily. I just hope the $999 price tag holds true for the base version. Once you get in the 1300 range it becomes much less attractive.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I keep checking just to see if there's been any release date mentioned, pricing, anything. I'm pretty sure this is my next laptop, and I want to know when I can get it!

The 900p option is now missing on Gigabyte's webpage, could it possibly mean that we can get it with 1080p screen only?

Hmm, if true, that may have just killed it for me. 1080p is just to big (small?) for a 14" screen not to mention too taxing on the 760m at native res. 900p would have been the perfect sweet spot.

True. 900p is good for 14". Not sure if it kills the deal for me though. My current machine has a 7850m and 1080p on 17" and gaming is OK. I just need something small now as my job changed. Sick of carrying it's fat butt around.

I appreciate the info. I has been a long time since I have looked into running a monitor at non-native resolutions. I guess it may not be as bad as I thought.

Still wish this thing would release already....

Thanks for the info. I would still prefer to get a 900p display though. 1080p is uncomfortable for me on a 14-inch screen. Yes, you can run things at a lower resolution, and supposedly it doesn't look too bad, but what's the point of having a 1080p display if you're going to run it in 900p only anyway? Besides, I don't think scaled 900p will look any better than native 900p. The benefits of better brightness and color range will be ruined by blur.

Anyway...I really hope they don't cut the 900p option. BUT if the 999$ model has both GTX 760M and 1080p, I will not hold back :D

Well specs say FHD screen is AHVA LCD which is equivalent of IPS screen. That alone overweights 900p screen with regular LCD. I'm very interested now to see how that panel performs.

Well, of course I do not know for sure. It's just: I haven't seen any other FHD 14" screen besides this one. Did you?
And yes, I think it is the same one which the Clevo w740su uses.

Do you know how the games look on this display if downscaled to 900p? Also, if even the base version of the laptop comes with a 1080p display, do you think the difference between models is going to be storage only? Like 1 mSATA SSD and no HDD for the 999$ model?

Honestly, I think its more likely we will get the HDD rather than the SSD in the $999 model.

I also wouldn't be suprised if the graphics card droped to like a 750m, but just my 2 cents

I just hope not, $999 for GTX 760M with a Quad core 4th Generation Intel i7 Processor is incredibly cheap! Even if it only comes with a 500GB HDD which still has an extra mSATA slot that you can upgrade by yourselves!

It's hard to say but packing that kind of cpu/gpu will definitely trend towards a laptop that runs hotter than the average. Unless they have some sort of amazing cooling system for such a slim form-factor.

I hope for reviews soon too, but cooling looks very similar to the old model, which is/was both hot AND noisy (review: Review Gigabyte P2542G Notebook - NotebookCheck.net Reviews ), so I have my doubts.

If we're talking about 14-inch models... People are getting 98+ degrees CPU temperature on Clevo W230ST, which has a much thicker chassis and more space for cooling system. It has 765M though...
MSI GE40, which is close to P34G in terms of specs and dimensions (4702MQ+GTX 760M, it is slightly thicker though), does not run very cool either.
However, according to Anandtech, Razer Blade (4702HQ+GTX 765M) does not run too hot, which gives a bit of hope...

That's entirely a different notebook chassis - much larger. This will be more inline with the variants of U2442, which you will find perform about as you'd expect for a subnotebook that doesn't throttle the graphics under load, and thankfully there are two fans for cooling. It's really not all that bad given the form factor and performance. Using nbfancontrol will be necessary unless they fix the overly aggressive fans it may inherit from U2442, because the chassis looks identical.

I really need a new laptop but I just need to cool off and wait for this and the P35K to come out. I'd hate to buy something now and in a month or two regret it. I am tempted by the GS70 but it has a TN panel and is not going to be upgradeable in any way. Probably all these thin laptops are "as is" without anyone being able to swap things out as you can with most laptops, but seems all the other systems have overheating issues so the smart thing is to wait for reviews on all these thin models to come in.

    Regarding 900p/1080p availability...
Just a hypothesis, but I have looked at this page on Gigabyte's site (scroll to the bottom of the page and click Full HD)... It says: "Vivid Visual Enjoyment with 1080p Full HD Display (optional)".
So perhaps 900p will be available in some countries.

According to the Gigabyte NB facebook page the launch for the US will be mid/late September for the p35k. It also seems like the p34g will launch after the p35k so late September is the earliest probably we will see it stateside. I think Gigabyte is really shooting itself in the foot with this launch. They're missing a huge potential chance to capitalize on students going back to school and I have a feeling their systems will be in short supply when they do launch. Also their base price seems to be $999 for the p34g, but my guess is that it'll be i7-4700m, 4 gigs of ram, 500 hdd, and 760m. With upgrades it'll probably come out to $1300 for a decent system (speculation). I need a new system soon for school in the fall but I can't pull the trigger on the clevo w230st, or msi ge40. If they wait any longer I'll probably just give up and build myself a nice desktop and remote desktop from a cheap ultrabook when I need power and just suck it up and casually game on an intel hd 4600.

This is definitely an interesting looking laptop. I had basically given up on getting a 14" gaming laptop due to heat issues, but I think this is the first dual fan setup I've seen with that screen size.
